Location of Incident: Eastbound SR 16, Beach Hwy 1/10 mile east of Oakley Road, CR 610, 3 miles east of Ellendale.
Date and Time of Occurrence: Monday, June 1, 2009 on or about 22:17 hours
Victim: Deborah D. Johnson, 51, of Ellendale
State Troopers assigned to the Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a 51 year-old Ellendale woman.
The crash occurred yesterday on Beach Hwy when Johnson was operating a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country minivan eastbound. For unknown reasons the minivan crossed into the opposing lane and ran off the westbound edge of the roadway striking a tree head-on. The crash caused the engine in the van to separate and land 30 feet past the point of impact. The vehicle then bounced back into the westbound lanes of Beach Hwy where it came to rest.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is not suspected in the crash and seatbelts were not used.
A family dog was also found in the vehicle deceased. The crash is still under investigation.
