City Council Has Consensus On Urban Salisbury

OK Folks, we're on a roll. City Council Members were bombarded with phone calls and e-mail messages yesterday in which Louise Smith has agreed to add Urban Salisbury onto their agenda.

While some may call that a victory, it's not. We need everyone to please contact the Mayor and City Council again and let it be known that this is a vital organization to the success of bringing back the Downtown Salisbury area.

Please use this link and show your support for Urban Salisbury. Do you want Mike Dunn running the revitalization of Downtown Salisbury? I didn't think so. Let the experts handle it.

Did you see the "grapevine" in yesterday's Daily Slime -- some idiot wants Dunn to run against Pollitt for Wicomico County Exec.

Please explain why the City should give more money to this group. How much have we already paid over the years and what has happened (not much).

It would be kinda cool if the outlet chains would move in and rennovate some of these buildings. Woman always go to outlets to buy school clothes and things.

Sir:

Based in data in the proposed FY2010 budget the City has given over a QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS to Urban Salisbury since 2003. There are other equally worthy groups that get little or nothing from the City: Life Crisis Center, Salvation Army, and the Library to name a few.

Maybe it's time to say thanks but no thanks.

11:25 & 11:27 --

Should that City expense be reduced or entirely cut?

You DON'T get it! It will COST the taxpayers $300,000.00! They LOSE $300,000.00 on this event. Another STUPID move each year by Barrie Tilghman.

So the only people that make any money off this thing are the vendors?

You be the Judge!

What does the most good for Salisbury residents:

Urban Salisbury &
Salisbury Festival

or

$300,000 for more police and better roads, etc.

?????????????????????

Now you're getting it.

It's a small victory that it comes up before the council, as Louise (at Barrie's bidding) refused to even let it be an agenda item a month ago. Whether the council listens to the presentation that Urban Salisbury gives or not, they at least have a shot, and the people can listen, too, unlike last month.

Kudos to Jim Ireton for quickly putting Barrie's budget request online and making it available to the people. How's that for Government in the Sunshine, Louise?

this group is another waste of tax dollars...time to move on...they have provided absolutely nothing for all these years and dollars spent. sounded like a scam all along...

You do realize that Mike Dunn is on the Urban Salisbury committee.

Salisbury Fesitval is not operated by Urban Salisbury.

Urban Salisbury does not operate the Salisbury Festival.

Barrie dictated the direction of Urban Salisbury for many years. So the return on money from the City was low.

In the past 2 years, Urban Salisbury has rebuilt and become much more professional.

The City needs to spend $32 million on infrastructure just to keep its current rating according to the Public Works department.

The police department will add cops if they get a grant that Council approved.

Urban Salisbury gives back almost $8 for evey dollar the City invests.

Doesn't the City care about the downtown? Is it only worth $25,000? Who did Barry have in mind for the $25,000 job.

Garry just led the push to spend a $100,000 for a truck to pull the Hazmmat trailer cause the could get a grant. Urban Salisbury wants to get over $5,000,000 in grants for the downtown.

We've finally got a dedicated bunch of volunteers and a real pro working for Urban Salisbury. Give them the tools they need to get the job done.
