Tributes Honor Four Murdered Oakland Police Officers

OAKLAND, Calif. - The city virtually halted Friday for the funeral of four slain police officers, with a populace still in shock jamming a large sports arena, spilling into an overflow stadium and filling the streets to pay their last respects. The funerals for Mark Dunakin, John Hege, Ervin Romans and Daniel Sakai, who authorities say were gunned down March 21 by a parolee, shut down major freeways into and out of Oakland for much of the day as their long processions made their way to and from the Oracle Arena. - 03/27/09

The last time four officers were shot and killed, was 16 years ago when four federal agents were killed, raiding that compound in Waco, TX.

Most of those politicians who made speeches are the primary reason those brave men were killed. Give the criminals more rights and protection than the cops, diversity and sensitivity training, and this is what happens. Did you see all those idiots supporting the gunman, it's family and their probably pending lawsuit? "Afraid" of the police and "afraid" to go back to jail? BS!!!

Having been to oakland once ,There is a police problem and im white. I dont support the slaying of anyone but its time the police wake up.i dont suport he gun man but i understand the reasoning. If the police would go back to policing and not intimidation there would be less of this .And ppl in salisbury think its badd here.

I can almost bet that the perpetrator has repeatedly been in and out of the criminal justice system, like a certain murderer in our area who was just put away.Stop letting these thugs out of prison. These officers did not have to die.
