A Salisbury Firefighter's Comment With My Reply

"Joe,

I'd like to respond to your challenge below. First, I apologize to Mr. Disharoon if he felt threatened by one of our members when he responded passionately to being insulted. The polite thing would have been for our member to merely walk away, which is the tact our leadership has been taking regarding the insults levied on this blog. Unfortunately, the lies, overt and suggested, continue.

We in the SFD are proud of the work we do, and the accomplishments we've made under the leadership of those you continue to bash. Further, you cannot trash our leaders without trashing our organization and its members. The smartest among us know to steer clear of this blog, but so many different charges are being levied, and necessarily followed up by city administration, that it is becoming a drain on the organization merely to respond.

Like any group of people, we are almost never in complete agreement regarding every decision that comes down from SFD administration, but those members who are working for its betterment know how to become involved in the work committees that made most of the decisions that you blame on the chiefs. Apparently, not every member shares this sense of team, as you are obviously receiving information from within our organization, but those disgruntled members, by such actions, are demonstrating that they have personal agendas that are not in concert with the mission of the SFD.

The poor "reputation" you ascribe to See and Gordy is only in your minds and those who choose not to seek the truth themselves. The SFD has progressed more under their leadership, and the majority of members who are working in concert with them, resulting in adequate facilities, apparatus, and equipment; defined and enforced training requirements; and thoughtful strategic planning to ensure we are better able to stay ahead of the challenges we face.

Are we perfect? No. In fact, we have a lot of work to do, in a lot of areas, and will continue to do so despite these constant attacks. But our leaders are neither idiots nor crooks, and those of you who believe the slurs directed their way by this blog are the ones with questionable intelligence. It's apparently way too easy for some people to fire off a question about someone's integrity, then sit back and watch the damage from the comfort of their computer screen.

If you truly want the facts, stop by a station and ask your questions. If you don't like what you see and hear (or if you do), go to the City Council or the Chief's office and state your case. This forum is not the place for truth, and is not the place to effect change.

Further, you cannot trash our leaders without trashing our organization and its members.

I will NOT stand still and not say what I feel simply to please SOME of the Firefighters that will kiss See & Gordy's a$$, sorry. As I stated in my comment, learn to respect your elders and if you cannot do so, get out of the business.

The smartest among us know to steer clear of this blog, but so many different charges are being levied, and necessarily followed up by city administration, that it is becoming a drain on the organization merely to respond.

I disagree, again. Some of you follow your leaders like puppets because they have instructed you NOT to come to this Blog. That is your choice,. However, some are very upset that Comrade See & Gordy TELL you what to do and brainwash you or you are retaliated against like several of the people we have already seen. So I say to you, act like a man and tell them you'll do what you so choose on your own time. Clearly you are on this Blog anyway, not listening to them anyway, so why not just tell them you disagree? Oh, that's right, because you're a big bad Fireman that is only a man when he is following directions, I forgot. Man, that Fire Department should send ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES OUT TO BE PAINTED PINK.

"but those disgruntled members"

Let me wake you up to something you're clearly not aware of. First of all you sound like you were directed by the Mayor herself with that disgruntled crap. Nevertheless, you need to realize just how many alleged disgruntled Firefighters there are within the SFD!!!!!! You are clearly clueless, just like the Mayor believing there are only a "Dirty Dozen" people who disagree with her.

"The poor "reputation" you ascribe to See and Gordy is only in your minds and those who choose not to seek the truth themselves."

Let me ask you something. Have YOU ever been on a business trip with Bill Gordy? Oh, let's take for example, Hooters. Were you on the scene with David See on the side of Rt. 13 when he allegedly tripped over a coffee table?

"Are we perfect? No."

Neither are we, I'll admit that as well.

"But our leaders are neither idiots nor crooks, and those of you who believe the slurs directed their way by this blog are the ones with questionable intelligence."

Well, let's see here. Some of this has yet to be determined. Have there been other Fire Trucks sold as surplus items and delivered with the equipment that was NOT surplussed? Has there been other equipment that went to Deale Island, Virginia and other locations OUT of this County that were given away, without being surplussed by the City/County? We'll again see about that in due time. We'll see just who's more intelligent soon enough.

"If you truly want the facts, stop by a station and ask your questions. If you don't like what you see and hear (or if you do), go to the City Council or the Chief's office and state your case. This forum is not the place for truth, and is not the place to effect change."

Here was my question on PAC14 Feb. 23rd, 2009.

"How many homes are on the Wicomico River in the city limits of Salisbury that cannot be accessed by a fire truck whether it's a business or residential?"

The City's reply.......

"We do not have specific data on the number of homes on the river that have access issues. It is noted that there may be several homes that, due to their location and size of driveways pose a limited access problem to the fire department."

OK, I went to the horses mouth, I asked the proper question and I got no answer. You are asking us, the taxpayers, to put up $860,000.00 for a Fire Boat, yet the two top people were NOT able to provide the answer to what I would consider the very first step in selling the taxpayers on why this fire boat is such a necessity.

You can play with words, you can act like your intentions are all well and good. You can even go so far as act as if you're doing us all a favor but the reality is, you're out of control and you simply do not like being challenged. If the majority of you went into business you would fail miserably, seriously!

Salisbury News is an OUTLET for not only my opinion, it' an outlet to educate the public/taxpayer and if we're wrong we give you every opportunity to speak up yourselves, even anonymously. The sad part is, God Forbid someone inside the fire department disagrees, now they're a disgruntled employee simply because they feel differently about certain matters.

The change needs to come from individuals like YOU. Every day that passes, more and more gets exposed. Now it truly saddens me that this reflects on the entire Department because none of us here are stupid. We do not believe 95% of you have anything to do with the major issues at hand. The hand full that do will be challenged until the taxpayers are satisfied.

I'll close with this. You encourage Firefighters not to come here. You have pulled Salisbury News from any access at the Fire Department. Clearly you have a lot to hide because we deliver facts that you simply do not like to face, yet YOU are here now making a comment? Please don't throw out the word intelligent on this Blog any more.

Kinda contradicting, isn't it? Gordy and See can't do what they want on their own time?

You people mentioned their "reputation."

what about your "reputation" Joe, it's really not the greatest either

So do "they" allow the The Daily Rag in their building. If they do, they print lies and mistellings every day, always has always will.

Do they let the Enquirer magazine in there? Hmmmmm, hide not wish not.

Who do you mean by "you people"?

YOU NEVER EVER EVER ALLOW ANYONE ANONYMOUS OR OTHERWISE TO PRESENT THEIR CASE WITH FACTS ON YOUR SITE BECAUSE IT IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR. MANY TIMES OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS YOU'VE HAD THIS SITE IT HAS BEEN ATTEMPTED BUT YOU OUTRIGHT REFUSE TO SHOW BOTH SIDES OF A STORY OR ARGUMENT.

Stop using all CAPITOL letters and your comment might just get through. I just wanted everyone to see why they have failed. ROTFLMAO!

Hmmm, if that is not Gordy or See who could it be?

Is that Mr. Thesaurus?

Richard is that really you posting on city time. My goodness you are so intelligent and I want to grow up to be just like you!!

"We do not have specific data on the number of homes on the river that have access issues. It is noted that there may be several homes that, due to their location and size of driveways pose a limited access problem to the fire department."

Perhaps then the owner of the riverfront property might wish to take the steps necessary to enable the fire apparatus access should they need it. Why is it necessary to have an 800000 fire boat? Those boats are not maintained for free either.

sorry Joe, EasternShoreNative was not using capitols. He WAS using capitals however.

If he was using a capitol, he would have been at a legislative building. If he was using a Capitol (that is with a capital "c"), he would have been using the building in Washington DC, where Congress meets.

LOL, my bad.

This is BS! You can clearly see that the SFD is out of control and the City administration is supporting a spending disease. The sad part is the money they have spent could have built 3 newer smaller stations and probably help equip and man them. What a joke... please don t insult the people in this community with your kissing See & Gordo rear ends. Enough is enough!!!! Keep after them Joe.

well I guess their are some firefighters that like the castle and think the money was well spent even if they need more and have to have more. But what if a little thinking had gone into it the money may have gone farther and everyone would have gotten their moneys worth.

The majority of members in salisbury couldn't care less about all these accomplishments and growth. Forcing members to memorize and recite mission statements are a joke. The fire department is like some fortune 500 company aand we're all supposed to buy into it. If it made sense they would. There are so amny layers of burocuracy its not even funny. Filling out forms in triplicate for a light bulb is silly. Mandatory this and mandatory that all the time. Money is wasted so much that you start to believe its OK, because its become the norm. This all started with Brezler and See just kept on running. Gordy saw the opportunity and ran with it and how. Today salisbury is the laughing stock and the leaders believe the department is the best. There is certainly a difference of opinion between the leaders and the rank and file. Ubfortunately the pain is felt by the troops who have nothing to do with the decisions in question here. We can only pray that a more streamlined and less expensive fire department returns some day.

What gets me in these post is the fact that the members of SFD that post on this site is they agree with all this wasteful spending. The Vollies, when they were in charge of their own money etc., were responsible in their spending and stood proud to be a Vollie. I am speaking from one who is on the outside and see clearly the destruction of the Vollies. They knew how to create a budget and spend within their means. They always had the better equipment, maybe not always the newest, and more professional no matter where you seen them. You always knew a Vollie was nearby and served with pride. See, Gordy and the rest of the Good Ole Boys destroyed this comaraderie. The Tax Payers, City or County, are paying severly for poorer service and incompentence. For those who disagree about the poorer service do not live on the North, East or South sides needing EMS service or agree with the wasteful riding around of the EMS vehicles just so they can respond within a reasonable amount of time.

Not so. I do not like the people who run our hospital but love most of the Doctor's and Nurse's that I have ever came into contact with.

I don't like how some stores treat their employees but most employees are great!

I could go on but I hope you get my drift.

The fact is a "Public" official threatened a "Private" citizen.

Take that to the next level.

Citizens become afraid of government.

Then...

Citizens take back government.

Finally...

Government afraid of citizens.

Post sure made one thing clear.

Follow Chief or get fired.

I'm sure Chief would go to any length to find who post here. Then drum up a firing reason.

This post says everything. It shows just how right Joe is and how wrong Chief is.

Terrible defense proves even the chief knows he should be fired.

Where does the 860,000 price tag come from? I didnt think they had settled on a brand of fire boat let alone really investigated what kind to purchase yet.

The Salisbury Fire Department lost it's proud tradtion and pride. This happen when Barrie Tilghman submitted Bressler's name to replace Higgins. Than Polk,Siggers and the late Webster voted to accept the mayor's pick. What a joke they never did a back ground check on the idiot. He did not like the volunteers and help the employees to bring a union in. That is not recognized by the city. Then Station 2 members said enough is enough. Than it was wastful spending and no accountability, other than the 3 volunteer corporations manage their money. Now we had P tilghman dream team that helped her majesty get what she wanted. last but not least Dunn,Cathhart and Comegys' passed an ordinance taking over all the asssets of the volunteer corportations and the COUNTY FUND. Joe! there is alot of dirt on this present administration. I wonder if the community would be passive if they knew the facts.

This post is insulting, Mr. Firefighter.

"Adequate facilities"?

You have a $10 MILLION STATION!

I have a little home and the tax increase meant I had to go without some necessities.

How dare you talk about "adequate facilities." I do not have plasma screen tvs and a new kitchen and marble floors. Our big luxuries are basic cable and this six year old computer.

As for the ruckus with the elderly gentleman, paid or volunteer, you are a public servant and have no business raising your voice to an elderly man just because you don't like what he has to say.

My uncle, God rest his soul, was a firefighter. If he were alive, he would grab you by the ear and paddle your young selfish behind. His department never had the newest, biggest, shiniest and they never complained. Never! They had what they NEEDED, didn't waste and never forgot why they were "in service."

I am embarrassed, ashamed and angered by your ignorant post.

5:56 Do you think there are homes on the river that can not be accessed by a firetruck LOL Why are they any different than homes elsewhere in the county? Is a boat going to get down the river faster than a firetruck down the road? IF it could.. NOT.. is this boat going to be manned 24/7 $$$ ? how many times has our current boat been used in past years.. Lets be real .. I operate a business on common sense. if I operated like our government I would soon be out of business!!

-----------

I'm going to disagree with you RIGHT THERE.

Joe and I have gone head-to-head and disagreed vehemently about certain issues, namely, the biggest one when Davis Ruark was arrested for DUI and I told Joe that Davis hadn't changed. Not the Davis I knew nearly 30 years ago, but Joe NEVER kept my posts out.

We emailed back and forth, but Joe didn't keep my posts out of his blog, even when they weren't complimentary to his friend.

While I don't always agree with Joe, he's fair. If you've got a reasonable argument, he'll post it.

Give Joe a break. There's long been a rotting stench in Salisbury and it shames me to see what should be the shining light on the 'Shore get dragged down into the mire and swamp.

It's shameful to all who live in the communities surrounding as well. It's time for the competent and the dedicated to step up.

got to say... you make a very good point... the contradiction is notable...

as long as the personal time in question wasn't on anyone elses dime... and as long as a trip to a specific location isn't paid for on anothers dime specifically for the quality of personal time options... i.e. if there's a conference in vegas and a conference in easton on the same topic... my dime requires a rational decision

This is so true and the common denominator in this equation is Rick Hoppes. To return this once great Salisbury Fire Department back to normal you need to remove the cancerous parts. That being said Gordo, Fatso Hoppes and See need to go.

Speaking of a conference in Vegas did you know that fire chief wannabe David B. See is attending a conference on your dime to Vegas? Scheduled and Confirmed we speak. See the attached link to find out where he is flying out to and the resort hotel he is staying at. This is a fact and I encourage each and every citizen of this county to call the mayor and council and ask WHY? This man is retiring and we continue to pay for his vacations at our expense. If you are not outraged then you are not listening!!
