Although he was twenty or so votes short of moving into the general election for mayor, Salisbury voters should recognize Mr. Caldwell as a true winner. His campaign was very seriously thwarted by his broken ankle and then a car accident, but “Superman” almost beat someone with yard signs at rental homes and businesses all over town who also had the benefit of free campaign ads on a radio station (WICO) presented by Barrie Tilghman as a “public affairs” program in her capacity as the current mayor.
The Daily Times attempted to sabotage Bob’s campaign from the get-go. Shortly after this blog exposed Richard Insley’s letter to his tenants promoting Gary Comegys and trashing other candidates, an article discussing it, relying on unnamed sources, wrongly accused Mr. Caldwell of colluding “to oust renters from residential neighborhoods.” And his coverage and treatment in that newspaper went downhill from there. The fingerprint of Gannett’s Joe Carmean is unmistakable.
Mr. Caldwell is the only mayoral candidate who has seriously discussed the fiscal crisis that the City faces and its inevitable effect on the budget. His “priorities for the next four years, plainly stated,” which should be adopted by the two candidates who will square off in the general election, are:
1. Budgetary Discipline is Essential
2. Crime Must Really be Reduced
3. City Government Must Become Open to All
4. Everyone Must Be Heard and Respected
5. The City Council Must Be an Independent Body
In summary, to quote again – we cannot control the economic circumstances that we are facing, but we can respond prudently to them by governing smarter and with genuine good will for all.
KUDOS TO BOB CALDWELL.

Bob would make a great city administrator.
Now that is one hellva IDEA.

But a much better mayor.
Ditto 10:32. Jim Ireton needs to keep Bob involved!
Joe:
I second your motion and suggest it be declared unanimous by all but Bubba Comegys' backers who don't know any better.
Joe dont leave the citizens yet. They derserve better than what they got now.
Hopefully when Jim Ireton is elected he will surround himself with advisors who are savvy in areas necessary to improve Salisbury.
These could and probably should be volunteers who's only goal is to assist the Mayors office as it seeks to stop the bleeding.
11:56 - that would possibly involve "removing others" to make room for those you propose he surrounds himself with. The police chief would be the first to go. He could reinvigorate the fight against blight, gangs, and drugs with the right kind of police chief (think Mike Lewis clone - lol) and the Government Office Building needs a large broom taken to it in my opinion.
12:29 -
Wanna bet the Chiefy does the "fall on the sword" routine to avoid having it done to him after Ireton is elected?
Jim hasnt said the chiefy was going to be removed.
1:26 he has not said it PUBLICALLY.
1:18-
As someone once said: "HELP IS ON THE WAY"!
Bob, have you endorsed anyone for Mayor yet?
Havew they gotten all the "absentee ballots" in yet from our men and women in service. Perhaps Bob can make up the difference there? Either way, your right we need to have him involved in the city government in some way.
Yes, kudos to Bob Caldewell. Jim Ireton has already publicly advanced those priorities. Even though I support Jim, I voted for Mr. Caldwell with my second vote because if Jim were to lose to someone, I would rather have Mr. Caldwell as my mayor.
I hope Mr. Caldwell will endorse Jim Ireton. It would be the right thing to do for the city.
If Bubba gets in there, NONE of those priorities will be respected. NO changes will be made in personnel. And Campbell and Cohen will be sentenced to another four years of bad treatment and no information.
Which means we citizens will continue to be harmed. Mr. Caldwell, you can still help us. Please. Four more years of Barrie Tilghman is more than our family can take.
Sir:
If Bubba Comegys doth espouse even one of those five points mentioned in your post he will reveal himself (once again) as a hypocrit and disengenuous knave. That he is an unscrupulous scoundrel is already abroad in your fair City from the high street to the lowest abode.
Sincerely,
Lochinvar

O, young Lochinvar is come out of the west,
Through all the wide Border his steed was the best;
And save his good broadsword, he weapons had none,
He rode all unarm'd, and he rode all alone.
So faithful in love, and so dauntless in war,
There never was knight like the young Lochinvar.
Let's get it right this time. Jim Ireton will be our next mayor. And I am sure that many of the people who have supported him, as well as candidates that have shown good skills will be called upon to serve the city in ways that will strengthen the city.
Jim Ireton is good at getting people involved, and getting them in the right jobs, we will see great strides in good governance, and good government.
I am confident that if Bob Caldwell wants to help the city, as he said he does, then there will be a place for him to share his time and expertise.
The strongest always recognize that their strength comes from surrounding themselves with good competent people.
I would like to see Bob Caldwell run for one of the District 2 seats in a year and a half.
Bob IS the man for the job!
If we are allowed to have one, he WILL be my "write-in" vote on the 7th.
He's so far beyond ALL the others, it isn't funny.
What's wrong with these people who continue to elect the inexperienced idiots?
Let's hope anyone but gary wins.
yada yada yada Joe.
Bottom line is that Comegys beat him. So your thoughts (again) aren't the voice of the majority!
""BOB CALDWELL – HE’S A WINNER IN ANY EVENT!"
Hmmm. I guess in any event except this election?!?
Anyone who wants to be sure it's "anyone but Comegys" better get behind Ireton. Because any dilution of that vote, and you may as well just go ahead and vote for Comegys.
This is serious, and people need to get past their egos and disappointment.
Bob Caldwell is a great guy. I'm sorry as hell he won't be our next mayor. But you bet your ___ I'm voting for Ireton against Comegys.
