The Daily Times Gets Hate Calls

"To Our Customers
Thursday’s The Daily Times
inadvertently listed the Sunday
single-copy price of $1.25,
instead of the correct weekday
price of 75 cents. The weekday
single-copy price will remain
75 cents. The Daily Times
regrets the confusion this error
may have caused its
customers."

Today's front page of the Daily Times has this little blurb apologizing for an alleged error charging Customers 50 cents more than the regular daily price. While I haven't been able to locate anything else in reference to this statement, what about all those Customers that paid the extra money for the paper? Will they be given a refund?

I asked this question to someone who works at the Daily Times and they said, "They can come to the Office and we'll refund their money." Well, not for nothing, but, it will cost more than 50 cents to drive there and back. I then said, you know darned well that WaWa and many other locations never give you a receipt for what you've purchased, so how will they get refunded? They replied, they just need to come to the Office.

Honest mistake or not, the Daily Times fee practices, (according to many who have commented here before) allegedly aren't that great. I was also told their phone was ringing off the hook all day with hate calls. That doesn't surprise me one bit. All I can tell you is, they have laid off so many people and overwhelmed their current Staff that mistakes like this are bound to happen and continue.

What do YOU think happened?

Do you think they were trying to raise their price and when they got slammed with calls they backed down?

Do you think someone made this error by accident, yet it has never happened before in the past?

Do you think they were doing it to get some free Press?

Two final questions.

Was this the final straw that broke the Camel's back and you cancelled your subscription or stopped purchasing the paper because of this mistake?

Finally, did YOU get a REFUND?

wboc has on their site that all you have to do is call the Daily Times for a refund. I'd like to know how many 50 cent refunds they'll mail out at 42 cents a pop?

They also said the price was not changed on the machine. If that is true then why were Mon, Tues and Wed papers priced at 75 cents? Thursday comes along and the price is suddenly $1.25? Something stinks.

I did not and will not get a refund as I will not ask for one.

The only, perverse, reason I still read the paper is so I can keep abreast of how incompetent "The Bassett Man" and his equally clueless partner are.

The sooner this rag tanks the better off this County will be.

Maybe someone will bring back the Salisbury Advertiser.

Having worked there, I'll guarantee you it was a mistake. The editing standards there leave much to be desired, and with the pittance they pay their workers, they can't keep quality people.

They were trying to sneak the price increase. They suck!

I know someone that called about the price, they are giving them a free paper for the week.

You can get the Daily Times at Deer's Head Hospital for .50 & .75 for Sunday's paper.

Goodness! Can't anyone forgive a simple, honest error? If you think someone was trying to pull a fast one on the price, you're wrong and probably stupid, too. Nobody is perfect and people make mistakes.

If it was rung through a register like at any gas station or grocery store it would have rung up $.75 becuase the barcode didn't change.

anonymous 2:28, you're a liar! I got several calls telling me that WaWa used the bar code to ring it up and it came to $1.25. In fact, the ONLY ones that got screwed are the ones that did get rung through bar codes.

You Daily Times Employees are so desperate you'll say anything. Hence the comments above. Golly Gee, can't you people just forgive and forget, kind of crap. We know who you are.

Isn't it possible that one of the layout people (who could be a new kid who will settle for low wages) accidentally opened up the sunday template on their computer? Things happen. If it happens again, I wouldn't consider it a mistake. But people do slip up and the Times has offered a refund. It seems ridiculous to get so upset over fifty cents.

And, if people are that upset about having to drive and get a refund, why not suggest that the "surplus" money go to a charity or something? That way you don't feel like your money has been ripped off for no good reason.

Conflict resolution can be done more than one way.
