"How many parents are dealing with a child(ren) with food allergies? I have a little angel that is practically allergic to the world and it can be very difficult at times. If she eats something she shouldn’t she itches all over and her skin breaks out with severe eczema. She is the last of my three kids and it get very hard to tell a 4 year old that she can’t have cake at a birthday party when everyone is eating it in front of her so I have to offer her something different that she is not allergic to so she doen’t feel left out. I have it down to a science what she can have now (meats, vegetables, fruit, & rice) and keep her on very strict diet of which has all but cured her skin condition at this time. I know there is a lot of kids out there that have issues with food allergies and was wondering how other parents are dealing with it. It would be nice to share some ideas and tips.

I am not sure what she is allergic to but our daughter is allergic to milk. she had some skin problems but we were advised by a doctor at AI Dupont Hospital to switch to soy and use beech nut products as a baby. after the switch to soy she was a different child all together.No more stomach cramping, no more screaming, no more vomitting. It all went away, but it was really hard trying to find out what was making her so sick. Cakes by David did her first birthday cake, with no eggs or milk products. It was kind of applesauce-y flavored but it was still good and the most important part was the icing anyway, it was a basic white with no dairy either. Find what works and stick with it. The first time we tried to re-introduce milk, her hair started to fall out and the eczema came back so we have given up all together even thought the doctors say you can try again every two years. She is five now and having no trouble so why change the mix now, right?

It might be a little harsh on her but have you actually had her tested to see exactly what she is allergic to ? Like the first person said you can always try in a couple years again. but also look up subsitutes on the internet for ingredients.The internet could be your best source for recipes.

You are not being harsh you are being obvious and I appreciate your interest. Yes I have had her tested and she is practically allergic to the world. Her main allergies are dairy, eggs ,wheat, & dog hair but the list goes on and on. I looked up dermatographia and she doesn't fit into that catgory thank goodness but thanks for the heads up. I have had great luck with Arbonne ABC cream with a healthy dose of petroleum jelly for her skin.
Try going to the natural food store in Salisbury in the down college ave. I have a lot of food allergies myself and am able to eat many "normal" food that are purchased from there. They have cake mixes, cereals, cookies ect. that are made with rice flour.
When my daughter, now 21 was born, she had extreme sensitivity to lots of things. Itching, rashes, generally miserable most of the time. I was told about Melaleuca by a friend, and switched to their product line of household cleaning items. Eventually there was no product in our house which has bleach, ammonia, lye, or anything abbrasive. Within a month she was great. And has never had another episode of allergic reaction to anything. Removing chemical influences from her life would surely help. With Melaleuca there aren't even safety caps on products, because they use tea tree oil as their solvent, so don't use things which are harsh and harmful to humans, even diluted.
I looked up Melaleuca online and I am extremely interested in the Mela Power laundry detergent. I agree that getting chemicals out of her life is a must. I already use scent and dye free stuff on her but this stuff looks great. Is there a local supplier? OK Anon 9:57 that was not called for but if you need to know my daughter was premature and on weighed 3 lbs 12 oz at birth and the doctors think that is why she is more susceptible.
Ted, you might want to check and make sure that you dont have any mold problems anywhere with-in your hvac ductwork in the house. More times than not your fan coil units or ducts will have mold,(its actually staggering how bad most homes hvac systems are mold invested) Alot of times if you just go look with a light you can some what tell visually without having to hire a proffessional to come. I f you live in a house make sure that there is a plastic barrier on the ground as well covering all of the ground. Without it moisture will rise and condense under your house, hence mold growth. Doug you have a great point. I have noticed an improvement in my daughter since I gotten full custody and she has changed households. Environmental is definitely a place to get started. Thanks for the info. Saw Scott last week and he is doing great. Will let him know you asked for him.

cakes by david makes alot of diffeent decorated birthday cakes for children/adults who have food allergies..might check with them to see what they have to offer. They are very helpful people
