A Gun History Lesson

Note: I do not know if all of these are true. Nonetheless, it's interesting.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Guatemala established gun control in 1964.. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000 Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000 Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million 'educated' people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century because of gun control: 56 million.

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:

Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent

Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent

Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!

In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!

It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!

While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has change d drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.

There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it.

You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians disseminating this information.

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!

The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind him of this history lesson.

With Guns.............We Are 'Citizens'.
Without Them........We Are 'Subjects'..

During W.W. II the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew most Americans were ARMED !

Note: Admiral Yamamoto who crafted the attack on Pearl Harbor had attended Harvard U 1919-1921 & was Naval Attache to the U. S. 1925-28. Most of our Navy was destroyed at Pearl Harbor & our Army had been deprived of funding & was ill prepared to defend the country.

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S. Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. & knew that almost all households had guns.

I believe that people should have the right to defend themselvs. I think that in order to obtain a gun permit one should first have to take a saftey class and have proof of a locked case that children can't get into. I understand that criminals don't feel the need to consider the safety of others, but that is what makes us different.

If we do not wake up in MD the only people armed will be criminals. Do they follow background checks? Do they apply for a concealed weapons carry permit? Do they obtain there firearms legally? No, No, and No. The general public in MD is at the mercy of the armed gangs and thugs in MD. Please support a "shall issue" law and a castle donctrine law so we can take back out state. VA, DE, PA, WV are all shall issue states. Do any of the above states have a blemish as bad as Baltimore or Salisbury? No, in the bordering states legally armed citizens have stepped up and voted correctly to give them the ability to protect themselves and there families.

"If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government --and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." -- Edward Abbey

The gun laws in the united stated are out of control but yet again our government has just about taken over everything. We are slowly or more rapidly nowadays becoming a communist state.
I dont own a gun, because if i did i would shoot some of the people i dont think to highly of.
The only thing you gun carriers can do to save us and your rights to keep a gun or any other right you have is to rise up against the agresser, our government.
So i have heard the wind blow before and you cannot win if you do uprise , so give it up , you have lost ,give em your gun and shut up.

Guns in the hand of honest citizens cause many deaths. About 90% of ALL gun deaths in America are family and friends. There's the true tragedy in our folly.

hey liberal looney, explain these numbers for me

* New Jersey adopted what sponsors described as "the most stringent gun law" in the nation in 1966; two years later, the murder rate was up 46 percent and the reported robbery rate had nearly doubled.

* In 1968, Hawaii imposed a series of increasingly harsh measures and its murder rate, then a low 2.4 per 100,000 per year, tripled to 7.2 by 1977.

* In 1976, Washington, D.C., enacted one of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation. Since then, the city's murder rate has risen 134 percent while the national murder rate has dropped 2 percent.

Defenders of the Washington law say it isn't working because criminals are getting guns in Virginia, where the laws are more relaxed. But just across the Potomac River, Arlington, Va., has a murder rate less than 10 percent of that of Washington (7.0 murders versus 77.8 per 100,000 population). Can the difference be explained by the fact that Washington is a large city? Virginia's largest city, Virginia Beach, has a population of nearly 400,000, allows easy access to firearms - and has had one of the country's lowest murder rates for years (4.1 per 100,000 population in 1991).

An analysis of 19 types of gun control laws concluded that not only do they fail to reduce rates of violence, they even fail "to reduce the use of guns or induce people to substitute other weapons in acts of violence."20 For example

* When Morton Grove, Ill., outlawed handgun ownership, fewer than 20 were turned in.

* After Evanston, Ill., a Chicago suburb of 75,000 residents, became the largest town to ban handgun ownership in September 1982, it experienced no decline in violent crime.

* Among the 15 states with the highest homicide rates, 10 have restrictive or very restrictive gun laws.

* 20 percent of U.S. homicides occur in four cities with just 6 percent of the population - New York, Chicago, Detroit and Washington, D.C. - and each has a virtual prohibition on private handguns.

* New York has one of the most restrictive gun laws in the nation - and 20 percent of the armed robberies. Even more troublesome is the fact that the places where gun control laws are toughest tend to be the places where the most crime is committed with illegal weapons

I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning... it smells like a dead thief that tried to rob my home because he thought the liberals took my right to bear arms.

I guess that all depends on the meaning of "MUST". I've lived here for more than 50 years, and I have NEVER once felt the need to have a gun, nor had the need to regret the decision to not keep one. I was trained to use guns as a youth (Boy Scouts,...), but I simply outgrew those toys... and moved on to far more interesting and expensive toys.

In addition, statistics demonstrate that you are FAR more likely to die from a gunshot wound than I am. That vast majority of gun victims are gun owners...

p.s. to 8:07 AM -- non sequitur. Pure irrelevant nonsense.

Retired Police Officer. Need I say more. I actually just left myself open with that statement but I'm not going to argue.
