Beaver Run Elementary School is listed in today's USA TODAY as having Benzene in the air. If this is the case and the USA Today knows about it. Why weren't the parents and teachers? Where's the MSM?????? Do we have to rely on Blogs and or loyal visitors who deliver such information?????

The article says it took air samples from areas near schools. Beaver Run is near Perdue. It's not the school itself. The people in that whole area are being exposed.
Doesn't the Daily Times have a high ranking sheep married to a Board of Education administrator/spokesperson? Gee, how could THEY have missed something like this unless there was at least tacit agreement to bury the issue.
Are they making any attempts to get these kids into another shool until this is fixed? Theres liability issues out the ass here. I have a grand kid that goes there. Damn I dont want anything to make Buckethead sick.
The Perdue plant has a hydrogen
facility at that location. It
is possible and relative to the
benzene problem. I hope not , this could be a real issue. The hydrogen
facility has been a secret for a number of years because it is so
dangerous.
That's probably why Perdue has it's own firetruck at that facility on Hobbs Road.
a deep pocketed employer "alledgedly" negligently/recklessly turns blind eye to risk and contaminates local town with known toxic/carcinogenic substance, like asbestos to mesothelioma. media and town and county implicated in cover up. where is my copy of "a civil action?"
And why the cancer rates in that area are sky-high.
Isn't USA Today MSM? It makes me laugh when people complain about the MSM missing things, and then cite the MSM as a source! Limbaugh does it every single day.
I am concerned now as I have a child who attends that school. I had no idea there was a problem. Any chance you could look into that Joe? I know many many parents would be concered about their children as well as concerns for the staff at the school. Thank GOD for your blog Joe!
BTW. I note a couple sites on this sasme small list in Delaware allegedly testing very high for carbon tetrachloride, which seems to be a c.f.c. solvent used as a reagent in synthetic chemistry, perhaps as a refrigerant compound. it is very toxic and slow to disolve and is now widely baned. i always knew the water was bad, but now the soil and air? this is the type of stuff wymzie should focus on if she has a burr in her knickers, not imaginary constitutional boogiemen who live under her bed.

What is the PTAs take on this?
Benzene also occurs in higher concentrations around gas stations, like the two on the corner by Beaver Run. Benzene is also a byproduct of incomplete burning of a carbon rich source, like leaves and pine needles. Additionally who did the sampling? They state at the end of the article that the meter used isn't sophisticated enough to separate different kinds of chemicals. Was the person even qualified to use the meter correctly?
So before we determine where this benzene is coming from, or even how much is in the air, let's just blame Perdue and get it over with. While we are at it why don't we just blame Perdue for the cancer rate in the county, or the state or hell, why not even the whole country.
Jumping to conclusions doesn't do anyone any good. Get all the facts first, not just the spin.
And before someone blasts me for not having an interest in this, I do live in the area of Beaver Run and my daughter goes to school there.

Someone had asked in their comment why the Principal had not notified parents. I spoke with Mr. Curtis today and he was the one who brought the article to my attention. Anyone that has a student at Beaver Run School or knows Mr. Curtis personally knows that his first and foremost concern is always the safety of our children. Being the Vice President of PTA I know firsthand how much Mr. Curtis cares for Beaver Run students. When I visited school today he and the office staff were investigating the article and its information. While the news is alarming my question would be to USA Today, why did they not provide the Principal with a copy of their findings? What was the cause for their investigation? It does not appear to me that they are concerned with the quality of air at Beaver Run Elementary School because if they were, the school should have been notified immediately of their findings. Now that Mr. Curtis has read the article, I am certain that he will take the necessary steps to ensure that any safeguards and/or precautions that need to be taken, will be taken. I want to say thank you to Mr. Curtis for notifying me of the article.

Maybe they should also test the mold situation... Nobody can drink out of the water fountains thats why the county pays for water coolers. Ceiling tiles fall down because of excessive moisture. No wonder everyone is always sick.
Yes, I have to agree, they need to test for mold, rodents and much more at Beaver Run. I read the article that stated some schools in PA immediately did air quality testing themselves around the school. I challenge the board of education to test not only the quality of air outside the school but also the quality of air within each individual building at Beaver Run. I am sure they know what they will find. Beaver Run was to get new light years ago, did we see it happen, no because I am sure when they looked into the ceillings they did not want to deal with all the other trouble they found, mold and aspestos. Come on, what is more important they our children, do something. Beaver Run needs help NOW.
Theres two social classes here, public school kids and private school kids. Public schools in my opinion are long forgotten, the powers that be dont care about the public school system or the kids that make it up anymore. Your economically un-viable to the new society. Take a look at your doctor, your lawyer, hell your elected officials, think their kids go to public school? Think again, yeah you might find one or two but for the most part your kids will never meet them. Two societies determined by finances. Everything in this country comes down to money, its sick ,its a disease.
Isn't this the same school that keeps losing electricity, phone service, internet service, and TOILET service?!? Where 4 portapotties are brought in, and the kids have to stand on boxes in them because they are too small to reach the seat?? This is definitely the forgotten school in the county...
