Narrative: On 11 November 2008 at 11:24 PM, a deputy from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Enforcement Team stopped a vehicle for speeding on S/B Salisbury Blvd in the area of Naylor Mill Road in Salisbury. Because of indicators of criminal activity observed by the deputy, a WCSO drug K9 team was requested. Upon the arrival of the K9, both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle. One of the deputies present began to pat the passenger down for weapons when the passenger retrieved a clear baggie of what the deputy recognized as illegal drugs. The passenger threw the drugs in one direction and attempted to flee on foot in the other. Deputies pursued the subject and with the help of the Sheriff’s Office K9 managed to apprehend the suspect after a short foot chase.

After detaining the passenger, identified as Jermaine Alexis Peters of Salisbury, it was discovered that he had discarded a loaded .45 caliber semi automatic handgun while attempting to flee. Upon the deputies examining the bag thrown by Peters, it was discovered to hold 15 individual baggies of Heroin and 17 individual baggies of Crack Cocaine. Based on the number of individual baggies, it was evident that they were prepared for distribution.

Peters was arrested and transported to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, Peters was held in the Detention Center by the Commissioner of $250,000.00 bond.

Great job you guys another thug and a gun off the streets. The Sheriff's Office doing it because they can. It takes balls to chase this type of thug down. Maybe you should ask John Cannon and Joe Hollway to ride along with you and see what great risk officers face daily. Maybe then the council would see the need for some type of retirement and disability package that fits the bill. I hope you sleep well at night knowing the risk these men and women take while serving and protecting this county. The citizens of this county spoke you can say what you want about the referendum and the court decision. The County Council does not care about the families of the men and women serving this county. I am disgusted at the legal hoops the council has made thses deputies jump threw to get what is so very much needed and deserved. There never would have been a Question "A" if the council had been fair and just. The point here is the county has not offered any package in the past and by all apppearances will not work to resolve this issue out of court. The public needs to know that if a Deputy is injured serving and protecting this county he or she will lose everything they have worked for. The county insurance is in no way close to fitting the bill and it amazes me that the same council members year in and year out do nothing to resolve this issue. I ask that you all pray to your God to watch over these men and women as they protect us. As for the council I'll just pray for your souls. I think the F.O.P. needs to start calling upon the 17,000 that voted in favor of helping the Sheriff's Deputies and let each of them know what council member lied and who stands in the way of desrved benefits. The phone list and mailing list still exist. I have heard that the F.O.P. has contacted the County Council to attempt to resolve these issue out of court and they will not do it. They are costing the tax payers of thiscounty a fortune. The attorneys on both sides are laughing all the way to the bank. I think both side are being taken for ride all because no one on the council side is willing to do the right thing. I think the public needs to be heard and this wasteful appoarch to a very resolvable issue be put to rest.
