Jim Ireton For Mayor

Ireton to Announce Mayoral Run

"Help Is On The Way" Tour Begins

--Salisbury—Neighborhood activist Jim Ireton will declare his candidacy for Mayor of Salisbury on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 1:30 PM at Chef Fred's in Salisbury. Citing the need to unite and rally citizens to the causes of cleaning up the Wicomico River, dedicating the resources to reducing crime that plagues the city, making neighborhoods safe for homeowners and renters to live, and returning a sense of fiscal responsibility to a debt ridden city budget, Ireton says that "Only a renewed sense of energy and change in perspective can turn Salisbury around."

Ireton was born in Salisbury in 1970, graduated with a Bachelors degree from Salisbury University in 1992 and holds a Masters Degree from the College of Notre Dame. A longtime community activist, Ireton was the first resident to purchase a home through Salisbury Neighborhood Housing Services – doing so at the age of 24. Ireton, 38, currently serves as the Chairman of the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress, Treasurer for the Johnson's Lake Neighborhood Association, Board Member for the Wicomico County Education Association, Board Member for Pemberton Hall, Secretary of the Democratic Central Committee of Wicomico County, and President of the Democratic Club.

"I do not run to embrace the status quo. The issues that Salisbury faces today are ones that are having a debilitating effect on the Wicomico River, on families raising kids, students going to college, on citizens looking for meaningful jobs, on the ever increasing elderly population, and on the skyrocketing costs of water and sewer service. I will not run without specific plans to address the issues we face.

"I believe that the greatest service is public service. Since high school I have devoted my time to education and advocating for schoolchildren, the safety of neighborhoods in our community, and open, efficient, and responsive government.
I am forever grateful to this community for all of the opportunities it has given me. From being Baby New Year in the Salisbury Times in 1973, winning my first tennis tournament, at age 9, on the City Park Tennis Courts, to buying the first house through SNHS's revitalization efforts, to leading the Wicomico Neighborhood Congress, I have been blessed by a community that has always seen my potential. I am honored to work every day in order to improve the quality of life in my hometown. I believe we live in one of the greatest communities and that we should protect our quality of life in every way possible. I want Salisbury to know that help is on the way."

The "Help Is On The Way" Tour begins Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 1:30 PM at Chef Fred's, 1801 North Salisbury Boulevard, Salisbury. The public is invited to attend.

Can I vote now, go Jim

Jim is a man of great integrity. Look for Comegys and his buddies to start a nasty smear campaign like they did against Tim Spies, but this time we are ready to fight it. You hear me, Mike D?

jus keep it real an keep your promisses

I have a better idea...Joe knows everything that's wrong with Salisbury and apparently has the time to investigate it all, how about we put his leadership abilities to the test! Joe Albero for Mayor!

It is not too early to start networking with city residents/voters to assure they have a ride to the polls in April. We all saw a short time ago how traditionally non-voting populations can eventually be made "fed-up" enough with non-sense and corruption to show up in record numbers to evoke change. Like it or not; Salisbury is a growing college town, and to me the demographic appears to be younger and younger each year. This is a local kid (now family man) who has remained in the trenches with his city. I do not know him personally, but based on his record he would appear to be an outstanding foundation for the community. The bar has even been set low for him because certain little "wanna-be piggies" seem to want to take the (taxpayer paid)day off early and park their (taxpayer funded) vehicle in an adjacent cemetary (when he isn't taking someone's handicapped space). Seriously, Salisbury; it will take time to repair the damage, but give new ideas and passion a chance.

I would never vote for Comegys, but my concern with Ireton is that he only has grandiose or general positions, and we need clear and specific positions and solutions to many problems and matters.

Where does he stand on the ridiculous North Prong plan and dumping more money on the Downtown Plaza, for example. Sure he’s for law enforcement, but what does he propose, and how does he expect to get the additional tax revenue to do it.

I’m tired about hearing about cleaning up the river – that’s the least of our problems.

1:28,

Then you should go to the announcement on Saturday at Chef Fred's to hear more.

and no more stupid waste of money projects like Isabella St

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!

Go, fella! Someone who speaks clearly and gets it!

1:28 p.m. -- why don't you go to his announcement Saturday and ask him? I get the feeling from what he wrote that he has more than "grandiose" plans.

Actually, they don't sound "grandiose" to me. They sound grounded. Making the North Prong into some hoity-toity section is a grandiose plan. Getting crime dwn and the river cleaner may be ambitious, but it's not grandiose. It's what the hell our government SHOULD have been doing all along!

Anonymous said...

1:28 Responds --

Perhaps that should have been "ambiguous" not "grandiose,
and I did refer to the North Prong nonsense as "ridiculous".

But, IMHO, Mr.Ireton needs to address a number of matters more specifically and not simply speak in platitudes and vague promises.

Right now, I'll either vote for him or nobody, for mayor, and for Ms. Campbell regardless of who runs against her, and especially if it's some patsy produced by SAPOA-Barrie-Louise Smith.

Hey anonymous. You see my name attached to this post? Good. Perhaps you'll have the nerve to do the same. So, let me get this straight. In Jim's grand announcement, toting ALL the things he has so wonderfully done to serve our community, he leves off the fact that he once held a seat on City Council - before he quit. That seems odd, don't you think? I'm just asking. That's not a smear, it's a fact. If Joe decides to publish this, with my name attached to it, he'll have honored his word. And I'll thank him for that. So come on all of you anonymous posts, step up and put your name next to your comments. And let the honest debate begin. I'm sure Joe would allow that too.

I do not believe Mr. Ireton, Mr. Comegys or any other candidate is hiding from answering ANY question at this point. It's very early in the race and in due time everyone will be asked these questions.

Anonymous said...

Hurray, Jim Ireton is a really dedicated Salisbury resident, he has shown us his leadership skills, and most of all his real and honest caring for the community of Salisbury.

I heard Comegy's has said he was running...right...running? from or to what? He cannot be serious that he is runnig for Mayor? He cannot be in his right mind. Who is bolstering his ego?or will he be "paid" ashe appears to have been the past few years by special interest.? He has done absolutely nothing to help this city..he is on the same train to destroy and degregate the city as Ms. Barry Tilghman.

I have the following to say...That is a shame, really a stupid move Mr. Comegy's, everyone knows how you have conducted business, personally and for the city in the past years, your campaign will just embarrass you.

joe albero said...

Mr. Dunn:

You have my respect for using your name and as discussed, I will always honor your comment with your name on it.

I will personally add the following. YOU know why Mr.Ireton left the Council, yet you don't say or even suggest why, I find that strange.

It seems to me that you're attempting to bring that out and to the surface but not man enough to do so? So let's have it Mike. Get it out there as you would know the absolute reason why he chose to do so more than any of the readers here.

So put your name to that one and let's see where things go from there because I truly don't think Mr. Ireton is afraid to face that ghost and if he is, well, perhaps he doesn't belong being the Mayor.

I'll await your reply.

Mike Dunn. You are a hateful coward who hides behind his own lame, anonymous comments here, and with the Slime. YOU HAD YOUR CHANCE FOR US TO DEAL WITH YOU, WITH CANDOR, LIKE GENTLEMEN AND WOMEN. You forfeited that trust by being a constant, hateful, self-interested prick. You reap what you sow you loser; deal with it!!!!!!

joe albero said...

Oh, I should add, there are plenty of ghosts out there too, right Mike?

Anonymous said...

Mikey:

Ask your shrink to increase the meds dosage ASAP.

Jim took a much better position on the Western Shore, and that's whey he left the Council. And he has now returned to the place he wants to be, Salisbury, which is much nicer without you but suffering for having elected you.

Since you have left the City, please keep out of our business.

I can't make it to Chef Fred's that day - if Mr. Ireton entertains any questions, could someone please ask him about his thoughts and or "plans" on how to deal with the Chief of Police - i.e. does Jim support him or would he seek to replace him. THAT is going to be a major component to this race, in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for allowing the post Joe. On that you have kept your word. We can continue to dislike one another, as we've previously acknowledged, but I may consider doing some factual posts here to counter some of the ones that seem lacking in facts. As to your question of why Mr. Ireton quit on the council, I can honestly say I'm not certain. Like you, I've heard various rumors: a new job/stress from the council position/some personal issues that needed tending to - but the TRUTH is, I don't know why. I've only known Jim peripherally over the years, and just as an acquaintance. I think you should ask him why, Joe - as you clearly have his ear. All I'm saying is that it seems odd that it wasn't mentioned in his official announcment. I think you'd agree onthat. I don't know if there are so-called ghosts out there. As for my so-called ghosts, I know them all. I'm very aware of all things that have happened over the course of my life. I'm also aware of the things that haven't happened. So, we'll carry on. As I've said, I may attempt to present some on-the-ground facts as this campaign cranks up -as I think they'd be useful.

Anonymous said...

Mikey. Nice back-pedaling (as usual) you Mary. Way to bring a spoon to a knife fight (that a couple hours ago you thought you were going to be "King of the Mountain" of). I am sure for every purported "fact" you bring to the table, we will bring three or four YOU definitely will not like. Why don't you just move to Bolivia (not that they want you either)? If it is true that Salisbury got rid of you like a bad yeast infection, you should probably shut the "f" up.....while you are already a behind.

Anonymous said...

I'm told he was offered more than double his salary in Baltimore and they offered him a Masters Degree.

He was in his mid 20's, what would you do?

Anonymous said...

Mike Dunn? Seriously? You want to try to judge Ireton's character? Be careful what you wish for, because certain closets have certain skeletons. Keep it positive, Mike, and don't try to imply something is scandalous when it isn't. The guy moved. Big deal. he showed his commitment to this community for many years before, and many years after. Get over it.

Anonymous said...

I see that Dunn is the same jerk and liar as when he was trashing Debbie Campbell when she ran in 2005. And if he's "not certain" about something, then why is he making assertions as if he knew the facts?

Doesn't somebody have photos that might be of interest to him?

Anonymous said...

3:55. If so, I will pay for the community copies and Kinkos mass enlargements. The only thing that is more laughably disgraceful than Comegys running for mare is this disgraceful geek bumping his gums to try to sabotage someone else's shot at making things better. I'd say karma would come back and kick him in the balls, but on Mikey that target would be harder to hit than the thermal exhaust port on the Death Star. What a joke.

Anonymous said...

In my opinion there has to be a person running for Mayor and for that matter CouncilPerson on a platform of integerity. I beleive that person to be Jim Ireton. I also beleive that to be Mrs. Campbell. Folks we desperately need a comprehensive plan driven by and for the people. By the way again my opinion, I have never spoken a word to Mrs. Campbell or Mr. Ireton.

Anonymous said...

Hey everyone,
let's take the high road until Dunn or his pals take the low road. No threats, no discussion of photos, none of that--let's talk about the issues, because Comegys cannot win on issues. his voting record is abysmal, and there is no way he can hide from that. Now, if they want to go down the low road . . . oh, let's not go there! But can I ask a few simple questions of Mr. Dunn? Didn't you move out of the City of Salisbury? If so, why? Was there a scandal? Should I just imply that there was one, even if there isn't? And if you no longer are a city resident, mind your own business. I await clarification on your voting status in teh City of Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

Let's hope this is the beginning of the end of the Tilghman regime and its lackeys, now led by Bubba Comegys. But don't expect SAPOA and various special interests, often acting under the aegis of the Greater Salisbury Committee, to let that happen without a fight of the first order, and Mike Dunn and his ilk will be their mouthpieces.

Anonymous said...

I'm pretty sure Mike D no longer votes in the City of Salisbury. So if I have this right, Dunn gets the infamous TIF for the old mall passed (how'd that work out, by the way?), then within a matter of months he bails out on the city and moves to the county, and now he has the gall to demand anything from a mayoral candidate in the city he bailed out on? Really? Go away. Let's talk about the issues. I think the electorate made themselves clear in the last election.

Anonymous said...

I wish Mr. Ireton the best. He is a sincere young man who earnestly cares about this community.

As for Mr. Dunn, I absolutely abhore bad poker players.

Jim is not announcing all the details of his positions just yet because Gary and the Mayor's minions are regularly stealing ideas and phrases, sometimes word-for-word directly from Jim Ireton's and Debbie Campbell's websites and then trying to claim the ideas as their own. (Look at the new taskforces and committees.) Jim will give the details in due time. He has great ideas and all the details on how to implement them.

To the a$$hole who keeps trying to put up suggestive and nasty comments on this Post, use your real name or your comments won't go up. Trust me Ladies & Gentlemen, they're anonymous comments coming from the Comegys, Tilghman's and the likes of such.

Man up to your comments or they don't go up.

Mikey, there are many of us who do not wish to hear anything you have to say--you have shown us plenty in the past and we were far from impressed at that time. It is time for you to keep quiet--you have absolutely no credibility.

Chief Webster and his 88 man force have done a pretty good job of keeping the City safe. They are understaffed and under paid.Priorty #1 in Salisbury has to be the safety of the citizens. Joe, your constant bashing of Chief Webster and the City Police Department does nothing positive you should change your approach and attempt to point out to citizens the need for more better paid officers Mr.Ireton will have to spell-out how he will improve staffing and pay for City Officers before he gets my vote. Jim, a clean river would also be nice; but public safety first.

joe albero said...

Perhaps you've forgotten the man sued me? Perhaps you'd like me to send you all of my legal fees? Perhaps you have forgotten there's still a murderer on the streets and crime is through the roof? Perhaps YOU haven't spoken to the massive amount of unsatisfied Officers working in that department? I'll not praise a man who refuses to wear his Uniform.

Can someone also ask Mr. Ireton what he plans on doing with wannabe cheefs Gordo, Fatso and See. The three criminal stooges that raped the Salisbury City tax payers out of millions of dollars for a McMansion in the Ghetto and several unneeded new fire engines.

joe albero said...

I don't want to speak for Jim but I think that answer would be pretty obvious.

Joe, we can only hope the answers are pretty obvious.

Would Mayor Ireton like to appoint me as Chief of Staff? I would definitely clean house.

Don't let Mike Dunn hijack a Jim Ireton thread.

Dunn moved out of the city after wrecking it. Doesn't have to pay the taxes he hiked. Forget him.

Ireton, on the other hand, moved away while still young for a better job, and came back with a master's and has devoted himself to Salisbury ever since.

To those wondering about Ireton's positions on this and that, we've now got an opportunity to find out!

As for those poo-pooing Ireton's interest in the river, I'm with him and Debbie Campbell on that. I don't think it comes before fighting crime, but it should be high on the list. Hell, if we'd just stop making it worse, that would be a step in the right direction. From what I've heard from both of them, crime is a huge hot button with them.

My mind is open and ready for some change that good people can bring.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Dunn seems to have it in for Mr. Ireton. Would someone care to explain why? As a voter in this race I would like to know some of the backstory on this situation.

Anonymous said...

If as much energy was spent on positive as negative we would have a great city. Your candidate needs money, and help. The only issues are how well will someone take care of the business of the city. If you like the condition of the city, vote for Comegy's if you think that things can be done better support vote and work for Jim Ireton. If you do not know enough to help the candidate of your choice, read the transcripts of the Salisbury Council meetings, you will soon see what travisty there is in Comegy's record of voting with the Mayor, there are court records of his behavior too, this is public information, there for you to make your own decisions. If you want to know about Mr. Ireton, look into the long long list of offices he has held and the volunteer committies he has run, and the results, the betterment of the community.

The people who choose to withold their name, good.I am glad this blog allows that. I sure do not want retribution against me or my family by some outraged mayor or her lackies. For some reason this community is full of anger and hate.I do not know why, can some one tell me why all attacks are personal? I do not understand. But then again I live in a different place.

Anonymous said...

I can't go to Chef Fred's either. Can some one ask Ireton what his plans are in balancing his elementary teaching job with his vision as mayor. I believe he teaches 5th grade. The kids need their teacher in the classroom. How will he handle both?

I'm sure since the Mayor's position is a part-time job and paid as a part-time job, Mr. Ireton will schedule all meetings after school hours. He will also likely have either Ms. Chambers or a very competent assistant to handle things while he is in the classroom. Nobody ever asks how Barrie handles her duties as Mayor with her board positions or constant out of town meetings. This is another red herring meant to distract from the real issues. Besides, have you ever seen Jim Ireton work? The man's got more energy, drive and persistence than anyone I know.

If you want answers to what Jim Ireton will or won't do ask him, not Joe. Joe doesn't know anymore than you or I about Iretons plans/vision for our city. Come and meet him Saturday, if that isn't possible email him through his website. If you can post on this blog you can surely email Jim. Get your information directly from the horse's mouth not any form of media.

As for why Mike Dunn is going after Ireton like a starving grizzly, that's simple. Ireton represents everything Dunn despises. Truth, honesty, fairness, integrity, open government, etc, etc, etc

It's where Barrie and Gary get all of their ideas.
