COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES PUBLIC MEETING FOR ROCKAWALKIN RESIDENTS ON NEW PARK SITE
Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., announced today that a public meeting is set for 7:00 P.M. on Monday, October 13th at the Rockawalkin Community Hall near Hebron to discuss the acquisition of a nearby parcel of land for eventual use as a park. Mr. Pollitt said that the land under consideration would accommodate a facility equal in size to Winter Place Park.
“After development, the proposed site, on Levin Dashiell Road approximately a half mile north of Rockawalkin Road, will be designed to serve the outdoor recreation needs of up to 15,000 residents in the West Metro Core area,” said Pollitt.
Mr. Pollitt said that he has sent letters to over a hundred residents in the park area inviting them to join him at the Community Hall. Citizens from anywhere else in the county are welcome.

Those of you that live nearby will know whether this is good or bad.
Do the citizens and taxpayers of Wicomico County NEED a park right now? Wouldn't it be a better idea to wait until the "dust settles"?
Damn these feel good democrats. Is this all they can think of during this economy, is how to make themselves feel good? After the county spends millions on this park and comes up short on necessary services who is going to bailout the county? I don't care if it is being purchased with Open Space money, it is still taxpayer dollars that could be better spent elsewhere. No damn wonder this country is falling apart, no one knows when to draw the purse strings tight.
This county doesn't need any more damn parks.Tired of all the BS rhetoric that the good old boys want to put forth. Put the frigging money into our roads,homeless agencies,Shore up,Salv. Army,etc.You bet your bottom dollar I will remember in my next vote.People its time to stop this BS.
Rather than spend money on another park we really could live without at this uncertain time in our economy, how about making repairs to stuff we already own? Like the roads.
If there's extra money sitting around waiting for us to spend, they can use it to pave Stage Rd. near Delmar. It's getting dangerous to drive on, especially if you happen to meet another car.
There are certainly others in Wicomico County which need work also. I know, I know, it's a different pot of money that buys land for public use.
Blah Blah Blah. It's still not free. It started out as someones' tax payment somewhere.
Makes No sense, Wicomico county purchased 340 acres of property on Whitehaven Road in 1997 for nearly one million dollors. This property boarders the wicomico river and was to be a recreational park with boat ramps, etc ! What has happened to that project?? Don't you think we should finish one before starting another?
The money is there for the park and I say they do it. I live right next to that area and i think it would be great. I do a lot of sports and have no place close to do it. There are a lot of people on the west side that can use a park. The people posting about the park is a bad idea. I bet you don't do any sports and sit in front of the tv all day.
I think the city should put in ATV trails!!!!
ANON 8:09 The land is named Pirates Wharf and it lies on the Wicomico River. A perfect place down river that is clean and could be developed into another pristine location for boaters.However they have had it for 10# years. You think they will develop it? No they will turn it over to some buddy friends in real estate for their use.

We dont want anything on this side of town. There is already too much traffic and we dont need a winterplace park on this side of town i thought we already went through this a couple months ago?? We DO NOT WANT A PARK ON THIS SIDE OF TOWN MR. POLLITT, should have elected ron alessi anyway i bet this wouldnt be happening. Ride by winterplace and even the complex on naylor mill road, barely anyone uses it!!!!!!!
The roads in the area can't handle a park this size, just like the last proposal on Crooked Oak Lane. Put the park on a state road, how about Nanticoke Road? Has a traffic study been done? There are lots more things that need addressing, like roads. Funny thing, the road in front of this proposed park just got a new coat of asphalt. What a coincidence! What did ever happen to Pirate's Wharf? Let's finish that first.
