Wicomico County has an average of 585 crashes involving young drivers (ages 16-21) each year. On average 407 crashes cause injury and 3 crashes cause the deaths of teenagers. Young drivers were involved in more crashes during the winter months of October through December than any other season.*
To combat these numbers, the Wicomico County Highway Safety Task Force is hosting a “Mock Crash” at Wicomico Senior High School on Thursday October 16 at 8:15 am. Wicomico High School will be hosting students from Mardela High School as well.
A “Mock Crash” is when 2 cars are placed as if they have just crashed and emergency personnel act as if the crash is real from the 911 call to the end. Participants this year include the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, Salisbury Fire Dept., Life Net Medivac Helicopter, Holloway Funeral Home, Salisbury City Police Dept., Fruitland Police Dept. Students from
Wi-Hi and Mardela High School, and Trauma Nurses from PRMC.
Speaking to the students after the crash will be Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis, John Holloway from Holloway Funeral Home and Jody Elliott whose brother was tragically killed in a car crash
Note to press— To maintain some realism for the students, please act as if the crash is real until its conclusion. Students will be made available to you after the event if you would like to talk to them.

I remember the one where the crane dropped the car at what amounted to fourty miles an hour i believe and it smashed into the ground. Now theres an affect kids would take notice of. This is still a good idea. Anything for safer roads is a good thing. I have to remind myself all the time to slow down, pay attention and get off the cell phone.
Why in the world are they using Life Net Medivac Helicopter when we have a perfectly good helicopter, MSP Trooper 4.
A guess that will be a free plug to advertise there service. A service that we already pay taxes on through our tax fee. Now fire departments will be calling commercial paid medevac helicopters so they can rape our insurance companies for a bill of $10,000 or more for. And guess who has to pay what the insurance companies don't pay? Not the fire departments that called the helicopter, YOU the citizen. How many people have $10,000 sitting around to just throw out to a for profit helicopter service? Makes stupid sense when a helicopter is sitting at the Wicomico Airport that we already paid for.
The citizens of this state need to call your Senators and Delagates to complain about this rip off. The problem you will see is one of the Senator's from across the bridge has a vested interest in commercial helicopters. ;-)

I remember when my high school did this sort of thing, we all though it was funny and pretty much a joke.
Save a bunch of tax payer money and show films of REAL crash scenes.
Because MSP will not provide the its service for demonstrations purpose. The reason given. "Fuel"
I was a student actor at the mock crash back at my high school, complete with drama department blood, and beer cans falling out of my pocket as I exited the car.
None of the students seemed particularly moved by the re-creation.
Furthermore, the police went through the entire procedure by the book, including taking my driver's license, which they never gave back.
Maybe if students wake up and get out of their own way and actually pay attention to what is happening then maybe it will save somebody from doing something stupid enough to end their life or someone else's life. And who care what helicopter is here for this, at least people care enough to take the time to talk to these kids to try to make enough sense to help them from making one of the biggest mistakes ever. What have you done to help make a difference?!

WTF was that? Instead of raving about mock crashes maybe you should have stayed in school to get an adequate education in the English Language!
Will the WCSO do the same for their drunken deputies?BTW,have not heard much about the one who crashed into a truck on Northumberland,what's up with that?
How come year after year this event is put on by the wicomico county sheriff deputies. Everyone knows they dont go to accidents. They could not figure out what happened at an accident if they did so thats why the city police and the state police have to handle the accidents.
Complaining about people wanting to help make a difference obviously is not going to change it happening.Get over it. And the WCSO does do an adiquate job of handling what they are supposed to handle. Each department has what they are supposed to be handling. They do what they are supposed to do; protect and serve.
