Herman "Bud" Lloyd Purnell
Salisbury - Herman "Bud" L. Purnell, III, 65 of Salisbury died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Salisbury he was the son of the late Herman L. Purnell, Jr. and Jane White Insley Purnell.
A disabled Vietnam Army Veteran he received The Order Of The Silver Rose and was a member of The American Legion in Snow Hill. He was a Mason serving under the York Rite, a member of The Centennial Lodge #221 where he was Past Master, a member of the Tall Cedars, past member of the Shriners, and a past patron of The Order Of The Eastern Star. He was a self-employed land surveyor and was taking college classes at Wor- Wic Community College and Salisbury University until he became ill.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Elizabeth Purnell, son Herman Purnell IV and his wife Dawn of Hebron, grandson Herman Purnell V, granddaughter Elizabeth Purnell, a great grandson Kaden Alexander Purnell, sister Jane Purnell, special cousins Leonard Purnell, Leslie Padgette, and George White, and several other cousins.
A funeral service will be held Monday at 2 pm at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Rev. Dean DeFino and Rev. John Kalfayan will officiate. Interment will follow in Parsons Cemetary. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 pm - 8 pm where a Masonic service will be held.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Herman to the Masonic Temple Foundation, Inc. 110 N. Division Street, Suite 105, Salisbury, MD 21801

Sad for the family - Bud was a heck of a nice guy, and I enjoyed knowing him.
how many of you have actually seen the inside of the masonic temple? how many of you have any ideal what the free masons are?
One need only ask to learn about the masons or see the inside of the Lodge.
A very educational day trip can be made to the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Alexandria VA.
You can't miss it as you travel across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge on the Washington Beltway. It's the tower on the hill to your right.

Bud was a great teacher and mentor of the craft. He will be missed in the hearts of many.
I am not sure I understand what "anonymous 12:51" means, by their comment they left... Mr. Purnell was very well known in the area. He was a land surveyor and is personally responsible for the mapping done on Somerset County, and parts of Wicomico as well. The family/friend probably just wanted the word out, and how dare you question the dealings of a blog it is all up to Joe anyway. If you don't like what he decides to post here go start your own blog.
1:11,meant no disrespect to Mr Purnell what so ever. I thought alot of people might be interested in just exactly what the Masonic lodge is. I thought it disrespectful to talk anymore about it on an obituary post, i thought it would be wrong. The Masons have history back to the founding of this nation and thought it would make a great informative post. Sorry you took it the wrong way.
