I always thought you were in with fox news... this is more proof.

And who were in the majority from 2001 until 1.5 yrs ago? Republicans...

Nothing more to say

It was a Republican Congress back then, Joe.

Why exactly is it LESS damning to know that the Republicans knew there was a problem while they were in control and did nothing?

I think that's the issue we've been talking about.

Whoever starts what turns out to be a problem is somewhat irrelevant. Times changes, circumstances change.

The leaders in power are responsible of knowing whether or how these things need modification. It's called the MANAGEMENT of our society...you know, government?

Ignorance is running strong. The republican leaders were the ones sounding the alarms. They were trying to bring further regulation. In the mean time, the Dems were saying that nothing is wrong, republicans are just trying to "scare" everybody. The Dems vrought a halt to this reform. They don't care if our system stops working, whatever it takes to give the poor anything they want, after all they are the only ones who will vote for us.

Have you ever seen the blue and red chart for our country? Most major cities are blue for the Dems. That's were you have most of the government habdouts. The rest is red. Many more states are red than blue. It's not even close.

And who is running Fannie and Freddy? Just ask Nobama. His top people are in charge. The ones he went to college with. They are crooks. They misstated earnings so they would get their millions in bonuses. And who was the second highest recipient of money from them? Nobama!

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the truth. The corruption that surrounds Nobama is far more than Clinton ever dreamed off. Wake up and look at this from the stand point of being an American. If someone did this to your personal business you would be trying to kill them. It has nothing to do with being a Dem or a Rep. It's about being an American. It's about crooks stealing millions of dollars from us. If you feel so strongly about supporting Nobama, why don't you drive to the inner city and bring 3 or 4 families home to live with you. Let them sit home and take care of their every need. Maybe then you'll understand why it's an outrage.

The sad fact of the matter is no one in Congress has enough of an economic background to figure out how to fix this without future ramifications. Both democrats and republicans still play the politic game even though the complicated economics used to run this country aren’t set up for such games. The people with economic background (Greenspan for one) have been ignored over and over again. Jim Cramer of Mad Money called the WaMu collapse a year ago and has been franticly warning whoever would listen about the mortgage crisis for a few years now.
Sadly this is just the tip of the iceberg, as now you will see other credit establishments go belly up. The new bankruptcy laws adopted a few years back was supposed to “protect” these banks from inevitable doom, but now their own irresponsibility is getting them in trouble. Too many years of weak (if any) oversight has come back to bite them right in the wallet. Big credit card banks like Bank of America, Providian (probably something else now they change their name every year) and others are on DefCon1, scrambling their accountants to make sure all of their books are on the up and up.
You can’t play politics with the economy. No earmarks on bailout bills or golden parachutes for CEOs. Its time these men and women grow up and realize that there are no more hotels on boardwalk and park place. You mortgaged them. And oh by the way the monopoly bank went belly up but if you’re the banker you should be okay. You’ll still be able to get your bonus that you were taking every time you passed go. Wink, wink.

not to forget that which was inherited from the clinton admn.
including chair of senate finance, frank. not to forget pelosi, reid, shumer all pushing the deregulation for large corps. which leaves them without oversight. all who crafted the legislation PUSHING for housing for everybody, even those who could not afford it. some are just supposed to rent. the poor, uneducated people do not know they can't afford a 300 K house, but there's some banker who'll lend 'em the money to do so...no interest, no credit check. what they aren't told is that after 5 or so years, interest due will be coming and huge. and the people are blinded by the prospect of home ownership.plus upkeep & maintainence.(why they are better off renting)
the largest #'s of defaults are in southern california, nevada, illinois, new york.... tell you something????? Who's fighting this bail-out tooth & nail? pelosi, reid, shumer... tell you something???

dems pushed the legislation FORCING lending institutions to make moneys available to unqualified buyers. poor or no credit history, no money down, low or no interest loans.
(and remember enron, at the very beginning of 2001? process inherited)

Fixed News strikes again.

Do not leave out Barney Frank in this discussion...his hands "are bloody" to quote another blogger. His former lover, he called "spouse" was a TOP executive in Fannie Mae.

what about Henry Paulson, our Treasury Secretary, seeking a blank check for the bailout, formerly COO of Goldman Sachs, one of the firms that may benefit from this bail out.....

8:17,
Yup.Him also. there are MANY, MANY more.

McCain co-sponsored the bill to reform fannie and freddie in 2005, the dems killed it.

Right now the House republicans are fighting this bailout. especially with news today that a lot of money from this would go to groups like ACORN.

mardela,

I laughed out loud when you said the phrase "The republican leaders were the ones sounding the alarms. They were trying to bring further regulation."

Who do you think you are fooling, lady? this do-nothing administration and its deregulation cronies have been slowly dismantling ALL controls and safety valves for the last 8 years.

good luck trying to pin this economic crisis on the Democrats. Americans aren't stupid enough to fall for your lies AGAIN.
