While there's been so much talk recently about people wanting to visit this well, I stopped over there on Sunday to see what the hype was all about. Now granted, they did a beautiful job with the stone work and fencing and so forth. However, when I think of a well and the Mayor handing out certificates last Monday to all the water people in the City, (I know this isn't the same thing) I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all that oil and grease floating on the top of the water!
It kind of makes you wonder where it's coming from, doesn't it? Is it oil from the road? It is crap underground? Is it contamination from the River? All I can say is, YUK!

Did you notice Barrie getting up to the podium with her glass of Salisbury Tap and not once did she drink from the cup? She put it under the podium never drinking a drop of her "best tasting" water. Hipocracy at it's best.

It is located on Riverside Dr. between Georgia Ave. and South Blvd. along the east side of the roadway.
I lived near that artesian well when I was a kid in the early
'70s, it had oil on the surface then as well as a rust colored slime which would collect around the sides and drain. It use to have a large steel plate coering it which rusted away. If I remember correctly there is two or three steps under the water and sand in the well.
That well has nothing to do with what we drink in Salisbury; our water is pulled from numerous underground wells in the park and from the Paleo Aquifer. The water pulled from these wells is drinkable straight from the well pumps but MUST be treated according to State Drinking Water Laws. Trust me, the water in Salisbury is fine and we went up against some of the BEST treatment plants in the state and got 1st Place in one competition and 2nd in the other. For once, give us a little credit Joe, we work 24/7 365 days a year to bring quality water to Salisbury and we do take great pride in doing it.
And yes, I also love your blog...keep up the good work but jumping on the water plant every chance you get is unfair; we haven't had a spill or any problems in a long time and we plan to keep it that way.
