Delaware Electric Cooperative
“Peak Alert”
Monday, July 21 and Tuesday, July 22
Be Energy Aware Between 3 PM & 7 PM
Between the hours of 3 pm and 7 pm on Friday, we are asking you to turn off all unnecessary lights or appliances that may not be needed. We are asking you to delay major appliance usage such as dishwashers, washing machines and clothes dryers and if you can delay any hot water usage.
Your Co-op cannot do this alone. We need your Help.
Together we can “Beat The Peak” by using our electricity resources wisely.
Thanks.

You'd think the various electric companies and cooperatives serving this area would make an effort to get the email addresses of their customers, so that they could send these types of alerts directly themselves. I know my electric consumption can usually be moved, and I have made an effort to abide by their requests for conservation during these times, so as to work towards the greater good. I'd love to have an opportunity to register my email address for such important alerts. Let's try to get smarter as we move forward.
I'd say it worked just fine. I agree, they could create their own internal list but if you only knew just how many people come here daily, they're smart to send their Press Releases to me. I say they're smart because I never went to them, they came to me.
IF you happen to have one of those boxes connected to your water heater and/or A/C unit, then the load control is automatic.
A wireless signal is sent out to switch off these loads on a rotational basis, thus controlling the peak loads.
Choptank customers such as most chicken houses are already connected to a more sophisticated system whereby their entire load is transferred to on-site generators during the peak usage periods. Again, the process is entirely automatic using wireless pager signaling networks.
Folks on the RPR program can have similar automatic switching with the proper equipment installed.
If you want to view the load control status online, you can click here for their real-time updates on load control.
