The Zoo

Friday Night was quite a busy night at Salisbury University. I'm told around 200 Students were partying pretty hard at what many call, "the Zoo." I have so many conflicting stories about what happened that night. One person tells me the students were burning furniture outside and there were so many people there that the Fire Department was delayed 15 minutes getting to the fire. Another person tells me it was another dumpster fire.

Then I was told SU called in the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department, the Salisbury Police, the State Police and even the Worcester County Sheriff's Department. If this is all true, it sounds like the students were having a bit too much fun.

This is graduation week, so they're expecting things to be busier than usual. Hopefully some of you have more information to share and we can get a better idea as to what was going on. I don't know if there were any arrests, it didn't sound like it. If you're wondering why they would call in the Berlin Sheriff's Department, they have K-9 Dogs for crowd control. They may not listen to an Officer but one bite in the a$$ straightens them out pretty quick.

Wicomico has K-9 !

The President of SU should have been called to view it all since she doesn't seem to be believe there are any problems....firemen couldn't get past the students to put out the fire. These are the people our tax dollars help educate!!

Now do you understand why homeowners that have owned in neighborhoods for decades are against having student rentals next door?

Good thing there was a lacrosse game on Saturday night, I guess.

From what I heard from the grapevine is that the Fire Truck was used to make way for officers with riot sized mase and was coating the air over the crowd to disperse them.

Usually about once a year that happens in the old zoo with a block party. It used to go on even more 5+ years ago when it was 90% college students living there.

did you ever realize that the city of Salisbury treats them and the university like crap that they just give them sometime to complain about. they do it just to piss you off.

the dumpster always gets set on fire.. the fire truck put the fire out and the cops came from the outside in.. not behind the fire truck.. it was only city and county cops from what i saw.. when the cops first arrived everyone was chanting f*** the police, i think that was the reason for the pepper spray

This wasn't just college kids, some of those young people were your very own high school teenagers. Such well raised kids you all have.

Joe, as a homeowner that was in attendance for the Hearne Property Annexation debate I find it odd that you told the residents of the surrounding areas to basically get over it, this is what was coming to Salisbury. That it is a "college town and not a town with a college". This incident is just another example of why we were all against the student housing at the Hearne Property. Soon it will be on both sides of our neighborhood.

its 200 kids out of a total of over 7500....dont judge the entire student population by this incident

I dont mean to judge the entire student population by the actions of a few hundred. I have a house of 4 or 5 kids across the street, that for the most part is quiet and respectful of the neighborhood. I imagine that is because the oldest, who is not a student, owns the house and rents to his brother and friends. Regardless, to take 1200 kids and drop them in a residential neighborhood, whether mine or anyone else's doesnt make a lot of sense to me. It always takes a bad apple to spoil the basket. It was the same way when I was overseas for 3 years. The actions of a few made us all the "ugly Americans".

SU students also have an SPD hate group now. These scumbags come, destroy the town for fun, and leave the trash behind. Grow up, have fun and party, but there is no need to have mass riots, burning crap, or starting fights. Just goes to show how immature people act when they don't have to work for anything. Mommy and Daddy pay all the bills so they can afford to party like animals.

The "zoo" is the best place for animals. A huge fence should be erected and raw meat thrown at them on a not too regular basis. If they had to earn a few of their meals, they might behave differently. Yeah, right.
We really get sick of them tearing up our place. Soon, we will be getting them on camera.

Oh yea, sorry about NCUR too and the millions of dollars that students bring to the economy of Salisbury. This place goes straight to the crapper when students leave for the summer, ask any local business

The economy in this city would be horrible without the university. The city is filthy and crime ridden because of locals, not students.

If the city and locals treated students with a bit more respect, they may just see the same in return.

Just to set the record straight there were alot more than 200 kids and the police led the fire department in with pepper spray not the other way around. Just my two cents.

actually, our neighborhood gets quite peaceful after the brunt of college kids (that's what they are) go away for the summer. the ones remaining are a quiet bunch, probably working so they can get to the beach.

Our neighborhood? When it comes to areas like North Camden Avenue/Smith Street/Maryland etc...you all turn the other cheek right? Those aren't college students. Cops rather bust a college student for drinking than deal with the prostitution, murder, drugs. Face it, your neighborhood isn't the perfect little town that you makes it seem.
