SO, WHY WAS WILBER THERE?

Some inquiring minds want to know why Paul Wilber, Salisbury’s City Attorney, was present at the City Council’s public hearing on the mayor’s proposed budget on May 21.

The only purpose of the meeting was to hear comments by members of the public. Beside that the only other matter on the agenda was another rehash of her proposed budget presented (or should that be “performed”) by Barrie Tilghman. There was no other business or action of any kind taken or discussed by the Council.

But Mr. Wilber sat there for about 2 hours – and we assume that he was “on the clock” and will soon charge for that time at his agreed rate of $165 per hour ($2.75 per minute) for doing nothing. Did he just show up, or was he asked to attend – and, if so, why (and by whom)?

Will this episode really cost the City $300 or more to line Wilber’s pocket. If so, how does someone get a deal like that?

If this is so, it's outrageous.

Joe:

Someone with the City told my daughter that it has just lost an appeal case against a property owner who represented himself in the court in Annapolis, having to do with his "historic district" property. How much are the City's legal fees for that case? The City person doesn't know and is concerned about what Barrie would do if the question is asked.

Thanks for any info you can post about this.

That man who served as his own attorney and beat the pants off the City's lawyer is named Lear (last name, I think) and the property is in or near the Camden area where I live. Contact Randy Taylor (he's on the Historic Property Board) for the details.

The guy who has just "beat the pants off the City's lawyer" in court in Annapolis would be Stu Leer. Get the details by calling him, Randolph Taylor (head of the Historic Board) or Wilber.

The legal fee is probably beaucoup bucks ($10-12,000).

Someone needs to check and see if
Wilber is a lawyer. He was at the meeting to be a witness if it got
out of hand.Barrie , Louweasel and
Gary were afraid . Shanie was OK
with not having Wilber there.She
doesn't know who he is anyway.

What he gets paid for doing nothing or losing as the City Attorney is incredible. That case in Annapolis is one of the main reasons that they amended this year's budget to give him more money. And he gets another big raise in the budget that Barrie has proposed for next year. That's really ridiculous.

Did they ever say how much the legal fee was on the Salisbury Mall case that the City lost a couple years ago?

Wilber must of heard someone singing that Ozzy song "All aboard the Crazy Train," and thought they were saying "All aboard the Gravy Train." Would be a good idea to swear him in as well when he get's up to speak.

Hey Happy Harry in Hebron--some of us DID not vote for any of these a@@wipes ya know, and we happen to believe in staying to try and improve things. We have also worked hard to get Terry and Debbie elected and will bust our butts to get other like minded people elected. AND WE WILL!! So while I can see how you would enjoy your superior stance from Hebron, don't be hatin on us city residents trying to save what is left of the city. By the way, what is Hebron doing about the nightime dumping of raw sewage into the creek??

hey joe, i think wilbur is the town attorney for pittsville too. boy that town is almost as bad as salisbury like shanie and bubba. the mayor of that town has had several judgements against him .also the so called honorable town commishs one assaulted a woman back in 1998 and another who is a salisbury emt has more paternity suits and judgements against him than al capone. how in the hell can someone who cannot tend to there own bills be able to oversee and propose how to spend other taxpayers money ? time for a whole overhaul the way i look at it

please find out how much money he was paid last year, the City should go in house like the County will and save $150,000 per year. Then what will those poor attorneys do at Webb; Burnett; Cornbrooks? Honest work????

If Wilbur loses his cases, he shouldn't be paid.
Again I ask-why can't the city atty just be put on salary? Fine if Wilbur doesn't want to be on salary--start a search for a replacement now! He costs too much. What are we getting for our money?Poordcisions, and "I don't know, I will have to look that up". He should be charged with theft-for stealing his salary paid by our tax dollars.
No wonder some at the table Wednesday night could not look at the citizens when they spoke. They should be ashamed and embarrassed. There has been many
failures in the current administration to the city of Salisbury and its citizens.

Not only do housewives and retirees beat him in court he writes poor legislation for the city protecting the landlords.

What a guy! Maybe the court opinion along with a complaint to the bar association is in order.

He got a huge "salary" increase last year, if my memory serves. He gets around 300 K per annum.
