It's time for the Wicomico County Sheriff's Department to take over all municipal police agencies in teh County and be the lead law enforcement agency. The Salisbury Police Department is a joke and they shouldn't be duplicating the service of other police agencies. Isn't this part of the excuse the mare is giving for a tax differential? Citizens you need to speak up and make your voice heard!!

There are a few quality officers in the SPD and they should be absorbed by the Sheriff's Offfice.

Hey Joe,
As one of the owners of the Goliath Center, this is a very unfortunate isolated incident. After signing a contract Thursday to install security night vision cameras, I guess we were just a little late. But anyway after speaking to Al, the owner of The Bottle Factory, he told me that always around closing time he calls the police for a drive by to prevent this type of incident. The police came through and as they were turning around in the Giant parking lot the shooter drove by and fired 3 shots into a vacant store front north of the Bottle Factory and hit the victim. This incident appears to be the type of drive by shooting that is becoming more and more common and is hard to protect against. As the owners of the center we condone this as much as anyone else, and our sympathy goes out to the young ladies family, and rest assured we are doing all we can to protect the centers customers and working with the police to find the shooter.

Hey 4:23- Isolated my ass. Every establishment that opens right there on the end, ends up shut down because of this exact dumb coward shit. The bitches from the hood need to learn to fight with words and hands rather than weapons.

Anonymous said...

I say let's open up one of these establishments in the hood and let them all take each other out. Science calls this "natural selection".

I am sick and tired of all of these #1's giving our area a bad name. Not surprising how all 3 have been #1s. Was this drug related like others?

We need a multi agency sweep and put this trash where it belongs.

Anon 4:03. You may be LE. If you are I say come work with us and see how hard ALL our officers work. Crime is overwelming because that is the current trend and instead of the council haggling over hiring 6 officers, they SERIOUSLY need to think about hiring 60 officers. A county police dept might be the answer. But in my experience, the officers that left us to go to other agencies left because they couldn't handle the frequency of calls. It was too busy for them and they preferred to patrol the corn fields.
If you're not LE, then please come and apply. If you think you can do a better job, then by all means show us the way.
Prick!

Steve Ewing,

If you are a member of the Salisbury Police Department shame on you for calling someone a "PRICK." Your statements are very unbecoming of a police officer and you certainly shouldn't be representing the City of Salisbury with your vulgarity. Have you forgotten that you are a police officer 24 hours a day?

You owe the citizens a public apology.

Anonymous said...

Hey Barney Fife, I mean Steve Ewing,

Did Andy, I mean Cheef Jak and Koke give you permission to speak on behalf of the SPD? Is your bullet still in your top pocket?

Anonymous said...

I apologize for nothing. These anonymous blowhards are allowed to criticize from behind a vail and know nothing of what they are talking about. this forum allows me to rebut their claims and I identify myself because I "aint skeered" Who are YOU to tell me I should apologize?

"instead of the council haggling over hiring 6 officers, they SERIOUSLY need to think about hiring 60 officers."

Mr. Ewing, there are only TWO council members who have busted ass on finding money for NECESSITIES, like more police officers and firefighters. And those TWO ain't Bubba Comegys, Louweasel Smith or Shamie Shields. There is only so much money before the backs of the good taxpayers are broken and all that's left is the scum for you to deal with.

But the beloved (not!) mayor (and her three aforementioned puppets) thinks it is more important to give her hench-girl Chambers TWO big fat raises TWO years in a row while other employees go without. More important to spend money on a stupid "attitude survey" while we have THREE murders in TWO freakin' weeks.

So help us citizens get these idiots out of office so we can more people like Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen into office -- you know, people who understand the concept of PRIORITIES.

Also, if you are a member of the SPD, you should not criticize citizens like that and use foul language. It's very unprofessional.

6:05? Why post such immature comments? Does it make you feel better?
4:03 How is SPD duplicating other agencies services? Other than WCSO working schools and needing SPD every time something happens to book the juveniles? There are just as many quality officers at SPD as there is WCSO, the difference is that SPD officers are overworked and underpaid...it gets exhausting!

Joe...Must you really go back to allowing these people to speak of things they have no clue about? And the racists comments, its sooooo shallow! Its comments like these that cause shootings like that!

Anonymous said...

Joe,
its not dispatch that takes your name! If you had info you would talk to the lead detective!

6:12 PM

Mr. Ewing,

YOU don't have to apologize to anyone!! When I am elected the new Mayor of the city the first person I will replace is your chief. The second person that will get replaced is you by the newly appointed chief. I hope you have your retirement papers in before 2009. Have a good day, Sir.

Anon 423 aka new owners of the Goliath Center. First off, I will commend you for the improvements, and clean up of this center. However, anyone that knows, knows there have been problems at that club ever since it was The Firehouse. There were just as many fights there as at Sportsmens Bar on any given weekend. I don't remember the name change right after Firehouse but when the club turned hip hop, the fights went from fists to guns. It might all be new to you but this is old to anyone with a memory.

Steve Ewing and any other SPD officer please know when reference is made to SPD, just like SFD it is not the officers working the streets at fault here. The fault lies within your lack of leadership. If the chief of police spent as much time in Salisbury as he does out of Salisbury you might have a leader.

More and more, society is dividing into two groups, the providers and the leeches. The providers spend hundreds of thousands on programs for poor and unwed mothers, hundreds of thousands to help at risk children in school, hundreds of thousands on alternative school programs, hundreds of thousands on free breakfast and lunch programs, hundreds of thousands on welfare and hundreds of thousands on police and prisons when none of the money spent earlier has worked. When the leeches are soaking it up faster than the providers can furnish it, we've got a crisis.

Anonymous said...

4:23 p.m. I trust that you and the other owners at Goliath do not "condone" such violence. I trust you meant to say CONDEMN.

Anonymous said...

653 I'd like to say my kids are at risk everytime they get on the school bus.

Will someone explain to me EXACTLY what is the difference between at risk children and a child at risk? EVERYONE is at risk in Salisbury.

Anonymous said...

10:24
At risk kids, as defined by No Child Left Behind, are:
1. Free and reduced lunch students
2. Students who receive special
education services
3. Students who have a first
language other than English
4. Minorities (but Asians, Native
Americans, Middle Easterners,
etc., are not focused on like
African Americans are. The
AA group is the MAIN emphasis
for all at risk programs.)
You can see that some kids are in 3 categories.
Tens of thousands of dollars are being spent on at risk kids but with precious little return. Our schools need to face the fact that many kids know they don't have to work as adults so why work as kids? There is welfare available, and the more kids produced the more money given. How frightening that the group the least educated, least disciplined and least contributing to society is the fastest multiplying. Politicians need to address welfare reform and limit the number of children society will support. After two children, the money remains the same whether you have two or ten. No more funds for reproduction.

Is this the same Steve Ewing who is talking about being busy and handling calls. I seem to recall him being wimpy and taking a DEMOTION from Sergeant to Corporal just to get away from Retired then Lt. McKinney becuase he could not handle the heat. Steve I will give you this it takes big balls to post with you own name, knowing that your chief and mayor read this blog daily. You should be ready to reap the whirlwind and be prepared for another demotion becuase you dont have enough time to retire. WIMP

1142: You are a disgrace to SPD, and it's back stabbers like you that make the agency look bad. What kind of low life cop puts such crap on a blog under "anonymous" and calls someone else a wimp?
Sadly, I could name a few that have written crap about their own on here before. Wonder why all the good ones leave? It's not the pay it's the crap that they let their officers get away with, just like Mckinney and many others.

If Steve Ewing is fired or retaliated against in any way, shape or form for reading or posting on this blog...contact me. I know an EXCELLENT civil rights lawyer that will tear Paul Wilber to shreds in court.

Just post it on the blog, I'll find you.

To Anon 4:03,
I will not apologize for defending my brothers in SPD. They all work hard every day. And we're all doing the best that we can. Drug and gang crimes have taken a stranglehold on this town and its a battle just to keep the peace. I will apologize to YOU for calling you a prick. I just observed my third murder victim in two weeks and reading your comments insulted me just as much as you and others were insulted. Actually, calling anyone such a name is out of character for me. I try to befriend everyone I meet. I'm sorry for giving the public further reasons to think ill of our Dept. We're really doing our best to keep everyone safe. Many of you are still making claims about subjects you know nothing about and you're getting your facts wrong. I'm not doing this to save my job. I actually knew the moment I pushed that "submit" button that I should have left that last word out. Joe, I don't know how you deal with this every day.
Please, everyone, accept my apology. I don't want to create any rifts between the public and the police, or SPD and other agencies.
To those of you who supported me, I'm not wimping out. We just need to all get along.

To Anon 637...you said Anon 423 aka new owners of the Goliath Center. It might all be new to you but this is old to anyone with a memory...

Although you have a partial memory of events, like most people you only remember the bad and the so called news worthy and the years run together. You forget that after the Firehouse, the club changed ownership numerous times and had all different types of music and all types of problems. When the club went primarily hip hop, yes the guns showed up. It is not the club or its location, it is patrons behaving poorly and the club owners not agressively attempting to prevent the violence in the first place.

Since 2003 when the Bottle Factory opened, it has not been featured in the news, it has not had a bad reputation and it has not had the number of violence problems of any kind-not even the weekly fights like the sportsmens bar. In comparison to the other night clubs or bars in Salisbury, the Bottle Factory has less problems, incidents, and a better reputation-according to many customers-than other drinking locations. If you dont believe me, check out Salisbury City's calls for service to local establishments and compare them. As far as the customers I am talking about go, Im talking about the 21-28 year olds that go out multiple days a week- not the 35+ age group that go out 1 time a quarter-who volunteer their opinions about Salisbury's entertainment choices.

The Bottle Factory has the most wide range of entertainment & music style of any location in Salisbury and probably works the most cooperatively with local law enforcement than any other venue. The customers vary depending on the night.

To blame an establishment/location for a violent act is fine when the club fosters that type of environment or fails to protect its patrons. This is NOT the case in this incident. Yet the bad press falls on the club not on the shooter or the lack of value some people have for life.

Salisbury needs to wake up & take the streets back. Ignoring the fact that there ARE gangs here recruiting teens everyday, there is a HUGE drug problem, and way too many guns on the street, only allows the violence to increase.

Yes right now "they are only killing each other", but what happens when they decide to shoot in the Mall again or show up on your street or in your neighborhood.

SBY City, The Sheriffs Office, & The State Police should all work together to get Salisbury & the surrounding areas under control. There is talent & laziness everywhere and in every department. Everything rolls down and the greatness of any agency, business, or family is what is heading it up.

If there are problems or there is greatness, normally it is a result of the menatlity of the people at the top. Maybe its time for a leadership change or maybe just a policy change. Either way, somethings got to give.
