Thanks for letting us know....I very rarely watch the 6PM news. Pretty interesting....seems as though Mr. Fineran knows "nothing" about this! But will certainly look into it! Wondering how many years this has been going on?
I didnt see any "breaking" news. This story came up 15 years ago. It is also hard to have much faith in a tv station that cant even have the right picutures up for the story they are talking about. It wont be news until the results come back for the water analysis. I liked the term "tunnel", it sure did add an element of conspiracy to the story. Also all ponds around here are man made, so are the ditches. The only natural waterways are creeks, branches, and the river.
Congrats Joe, your right on once again. I think 47 shoulda gave you the credit for the report. Wonder why they havent told us what the test rezults are? Maybe their try'n to come up with plan B before they tell us the bad news? I cant believe no Department heads knew about this crime either! It does no good to have a liner under the landfill if your washing it all down and pump the toxins away {into the river and Bay} Wonder what else has been missed to come up with our "top rated landfill" rating!
Mr.Fineran is just another overpaid crony of Rick Pollitt. He replaced George Roache who was fired for fondling a female inmate while enjoying free chow from the Detention Center. Rick Pollitt hired his buddies once he got into office. That includes Rocky Burnette who is supposed to be the "employee relations" officer. Only thing is is not many employees have met him and he's been on the payroll for a quite some time. There is a good story for you Joe, dig into exactly how much this executive form of government has cost the taxpayers.
Roach was a regular at the liquor store, he definately had a problem. He also bounced several checks there to the extent that we would no longer take them.
I thought the county PIO related in dialoge here on this blog that the drainage was compliant. Ra Row!
Compliant is ONE thing. Polluting is another. Always be careful what a politician says. Notice how he closes with, if we're doing something wrong, we want to know about it and fix it.
Be careful before you cast stones. I dont believe I have heard any concrete information that there is any polluting going on. It may turn out so, but for now all I see is a sandpit having groundwater pumped out and draining in a manner consistent with the way the rest of this county drains.
Maybe you didn't notice Mt. Trashmore next to the "sand pit?"
Maybe you didn't get it when the Landfill got on here, (you could be one of them) and stated there are rubber liners under that mountain. OK, where does it go then, the rain water, that is?
It runs down that hill/mountain, over towards the sand pit/lake, through that pipe with all the erosion and into the lake. It then gets pumped out of the lake and into a series of ponds and streams all the way to the River.
Now you tell me, on a day like today, after heavy rains, what do YOU think is finding its way to the River? Clean Water????????
Joe, with all due respect there is more to it than that. Once the cells of the landfill are filled, they are sealed and capped. This work is done (expensive) by an outside company that specializes in this type of work. The way I understand it is that the "juices" that seep from the bottom of the landfill go to a special are called the leachate pond that isnt anywhere near this pit. That water is then dealt with appropriately. This is the mechanism MDE had the landfill put in place 15 years ago. This large pit is only one piece of the puzzle and its function is to cap the sealed cells with dirt. I will add, because I dont want to profess what somebody told me as fact, this is the way I understand how it works.Water from MT. Trashmore may run down the hill, however, it doesnt go directly into that pond, and the hill it is running down has been sealed and capped. Do you really think MDE, who visit the landfill on a regular basis, as well as require reports on a regular basis, would allow this to happen the way you are explaining it? If the way the landfill is operating, in regards to runoff, is improper, it seems to me it is MDE's fault if that is the way they have prescribed this operation to run. Once again, this is the way I understand it I am not saying fact. I never stated in a previous post anything about a "rubber" liner, and I do not work for the landfill.

If you have cable, WMTV 47 runs a 10 PM version on channel 3. Pretty much the same as the 11 o'clock news.
You don't need "cable" to pick up WMDT's other signal: The CW
All you need is a new digital TV set and a decent antenna.
Same thing goes for FOX-21. A simple set of rabbit ears brings it in for me.

Think about this for a minute.
First of all, when have you ever heard the MDE coming in to save the day because they found a MUNICIPALITY breaking the law?
It takes citizens like me to EXPOSE the problem and then they go in and fix it.
Government is Government. Why rob Peter to pay Paul, that's what they say.
So we'll break the law till we're caught. Barrie knows this better than anyone.
