Everyone's got to eat, right? I missed the Fire Truck that was also parked next to the Pawn Shop while the Crews went into Panera Bread for lunch. Gee Mr. Gordy, you sure are setting a fine example of how to spend $3.00 a gallon to run errands in City vehicles. I know, let's take a Fire Truck and this huge Ambulance to lunch today.

it's funny how WCSO and the MSP ride all over the place on or off duty breaking the speed limit and you never see or mention that. But let these hard working men and women stop to get something to eat after saving someones life and you want to dog them over it.
I took a picture last wek of a WCSO deputy running a stop sign. do you want me to send it to you? No lights flashing just in a hurry for coffee and donuts.

If you ask me, someone within the SPD has been TRYING to put up a lot of nasty comments about the WCSO in the past few days, ever since Sheriff Lewis endorsed Andy Harris. Was the vehicle in emergency vehicle shown in the picture in a space marked for "Compact Vehicles Only?" If so, they were clearly taking advantage of their job and were in violation!
If that is the case, this type of abuse of public service vehicles will cease!

I have seen the city fire truck the six seat version stop first at the PNC Bank and then drive across drive across the street to bank at First Shore Federal on Mt.Hermon Rd and Civic Ave. Mind you normally one person gets out at each stop while the five sit their fire truck with the engine running. The cost banking for the city has really become expensive!
vjgjpqJoe, you once again have proven how ignorant you are about the workings of fire depts nationwide. These guys are on 24 hr shifts. There is nothing wrong with them taking an emergency vehicle to the bank to cash their paychecks, or to somewhere to get something to eat, etc., etc., anywhere in their first due. They do this so if there is a call they can drop everything and respond immediately- which happens often. If they were in a POV the response would be delayed until they made it back to the station, in a non-emergency vehicle. What if the incident is between the store and the firehouse? they may not be able to make it back there at all. If you had fallen out with a heart attack or your house is on fire, would you like to wait until someone's lunch hr is over before they come to save you??? This is not a Salisbury thing. It is done by paid firefighters pretty much worldwide. Please get a clue about something before you bitch about it. For the life of me I do not understand why you hate all firefighters.

Let's say you're now at the new Station and you get a call at South & Camden. IF you had EVERYONE at the Station and ONE person at Panera Bread, don't you think the odds of saving someones life on Camden & South would have much better odds than the entire Fire Staff all the way out on the opposite side of town?????
The duty crew consits of 3 firefighters(the the minimum the engine can go out with).if you send one guy to go get lunch you would still have to wait intill he get's back to respond to a call.
I'll repeat one last time. There was a Fire Truck AND an Ambulance there. That's the Crew I'm talking about. Granted, the Fire Truck that was parked along side of the Pawn Shop left before I could arrive but my source saw everyone going into Panera Bread. ABSOLUTELY NOT! What if the person at Panera is the paramedic on duty? Or the duty officer? Or possibly the only person cleared to drive the fire engine/truck/ambo? Then EVERYONE is stuck at the firehouse until this person can make it back. It would be absolute stupidity to allow this to happen. This is why the WHOLE CREW along with ALL THE EQUIPMENT STAY TOGETHER for the entire shift. It is basic common sense to do so. If you can't figure that out, you need some serious help.
Joe, you see to think that the SOP's of fire depts are something that people just decide on a whim, without any reason, and that you, without a single hr of fire service training, know more about how things should be done then senior experienced professionals who have analyzed centuries of fire service responses worldwide. You really need to pay more attention to people who actually know what they are talking about.
I've also seen the SFD vehicles used to do banking. Also SPD vehicles.
I work at Lowes and see the fire truck there all the time. Not so much the ambulance. The state police really like that place to. The other day there were at least 4 marked cars and at least one unmarked. Must have been some kind of meeting.

This is not a new adventure you see here. Firefighters have to eat too. This is a favorite spot of the SFD guys and gals who work 24/7 365. They dont stay too long or go three times a day. They often dont get to even finish their meal or go hungry while answering calls for hours after the average citizen has eaten. More often than not the SFD members cook at the firehouses. Lets look at it this way. If you had a medical emergency or a fire nearby while they were at Paniera, you would be glad. These men and women would drop what they are eating and come to help. Meanwhile, the average person sits at his seat watching and gets to finish his meal. Thats the life of the firefighter and we're glad to do it.
That is nothing, Joe. Last week, I was at WaWa on South Salisbury Blvd, and I saw a Salisbury City Fire Truck pull up IN BACK, HIDDEN BEHIND WaWa. Out piled like 6 fire fighters. They weren't in turn out gear. Makes me wonder who was minding the store.

Are they completely invisible around back? Last time I checked you could see the rear of WaWa from Waverly Drive. Do you think the firefighters wear TURNOUT GEAR when they aren't TURNING OUT for a call? I don't have one ounce of fire service experience but I sit here and read some of the stupidest B/S from people who have not an ounce of experience either. Some of you are truely amazaing. It makes me wonder how some people (Teacherlady?) get in and out of the door in the morning.
TeacherLady, the fire truck was not "hidden" behind WaWa we park there so we do not tie up traffic or block spaces on the front side of the store. Alot of the larger vehicles that go into that parking lot park in the rear of the store.
They don't park in the back to hide teachegirl. They park in the back because of the limited room in the front.

I am paid firefighter and it never seems to amaze me how often you Salisbury City firefighters eat out. Everyone on my shift take turns cooking dinner for the shift at the fire house. You all speek of the years of service that has been analized to determine SOP's for the dept. and just about all the full time departments that I have volunteered or worked with have had a kitchen, so why not save everyone a little bit of cash and just cook for your shift.
Because that still involves GOING to the GROCERY store. I guess they are hiding if they park out back there too.
Now they could bring food in, but your saying chipping in money. So that involves going to the grocery store while on duty. I hope they dont park out back so teacherlady can accuse them of hiding!

ARFF7051 refers to my military speciality as a United States Marine... you should probily look something up before you assume where and what it means...
Just because something says ARFF does not mean that it belongs to BWI.

no not chipping in money. chipping in and taking turns bringing in breakfast, lunch and dinner and cooking it on location at the fire house. That would mean no wasted city, county, or state money or fuel for which every jurisdiction you work for, and if you do you shoping when you shop for what you need at home then you save yourself time too.
Y'know, this is rediculous. Cops, EMS and FF's have to eat. We work constant shifts, 24/7---365 days. Through snow, rain, ice, hurricanes, natural disasters etc...etc...etc... Some of us risk our lives & family well being while we are out and can't go home to eat. What are we supposed to do? Establishments like Panera bread, Chic-fil-a and Quizno's love for us to come in and show presence. They don't care how many cars are in the lot, as one manager/owner stated "the more the better".
So what are you? A Cop, EMS, Firefighter?????
You see, this Post is about Firefighters AND EMS. Did "I" say anything about Cops? NO!
Therefore, speak for YOUR department and don't expand this for no reason.
Hey here is a good one, if you decide to post this Joe, wait for the deputy sheriff to show up at M&T bank by the north walmart between 1430 and 1500hrs in his WCSO car. He will be cashing his pay check. Working or not, he will be in his cruiser. You know, the car and gas paid for by county tax payers money.
