An observant IDF soldier may have prevented a major terrorist attack in a large Israeli city, in what soldiers and commanders called a “Hanukkah miracle.”
An Arab terrorist who may have been on his way to the town of Har Bracha in central Samaria, was nabbed Tuesday morning when an IDF soldier arrested him, finding two large pipe bombs on his person.
What attracted the attention of the soldier was the unusually large bag the Arab was carrying. The soldier stopped the Arab, who was climbing up a hill that leads to Har Bracha, located near Shechem. The soldier grabbed the 18-year-old Arab's bag, and found in it not only the aforementioned pipe bombs, but also a molotov cocktail and ammunition. The Arab was immediately arrested and questioned. A search of the area by troops yielded a second bag with similar contents.
It should be noted that the spot where the Arab was arrested is mere meters away from the former location of the Hawara checkpoint, which was removed at the orders of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak. Arabs who attempted to smuggle weapons were routinely caught at this crossing, into and out of the Shechem area.
Samaria Council chairman Gershon Mesika phoned the commander of the brigade that arrested the Arab and thanked him for his and his soldiers' efforts.
“We salute the IDF for its work in preventing this attack, which could have been carried out against a major community in Samaria, or perhaps even a large city in the center of the country. Your soldier's awareness prevented this attack.
"But we cannot rely on miracles. I call on the government yet again to restore the Hawara checkpoint. Dozens of terrorists were caught there, and with its closure a terrorist can easily leave Shechem and reach the center of the country. We are blessed with wonderful soldiers who are doing holy work, and the government must give those soldiers the tools they need to stop terror."

Ocean City Police Officer Speaks Out
Mr. Albero, I am a current Ocean City Officer; and I'd like bring some things to your attention.
I find it so ironic that the department initially claimed they would not comment on this situation because it was personnel matter, now suddenly they are more than willing to address it publicly. Of course, Kirkpatrick still does not speak, why, their public attack on Earl would lead me to believe that it is no longer a personnel issue. In fact, I don't think in the history of our department, including cops arrested and currently incarcerated for child sexual abuse, as well as cops charged with various other crimes, has a Chief ever attacked an ex-employee in a public venue like this? Earl is a private citizen, she is the Chief of police acting in her professional capacity and she is attacking a private citizen publicly, in my experience that is simply unheard of!
I guess the gag order is off, since she is now talking openly about it. Funny how she can't find time for exit interviews, or even talking with Earl when the situation was happening. Now she has cops investigating, chasing down vets in different states as she stated, all on the tax payer dollar, what a waste. Is this not an issue, is this acceptable? In is worse than that, they are doing more, so far in the paper she has admitted to chasing downs vets, soon it will come, it doesn't end with the vet hunt.
The blog posts about our department, her conduct so far proves them to be accurate. Look at the intimidation, the bullying, the name calling, blaming the messenger, what a hostile environment...for a private citizen! Imagine the great lengths to punish you as an employee, look how she handles a private citizen.
If the dog was still healthy would they dump it for $1.00. This is a very expensive working police dog, Charlie has had more drug seizures and arrests than any other Ocean City K-9 in our history. Charlie was never sued by anybody for bite in the line of duty, no other departmental K-9 can say that! Ask other agencies what they thought of Charlie, or Campbell, let them speak for his record. They were the most sought after and heavily used team by all of our local allied agencies! So we have a dog, worth over well $10,000 and this is a low estimate, that had done more than any other Ocean City K-9, yet he was so healthy they gave him up for a dollar? Yeah, that makes sense!
I read the Times, I saw what Earl said, he is afraid! Look at how she attacks him openly, what kind of attacks are they conducting behind the scenes? They are much greater, believe me, it isn't good. I know, it will come out soon and it is very bad! Earl is definitely under attack and he should be very careful right now, it is no joke!
Earl previously shared with a few of us that he had received many personal threats by email throughout this ordeal,did any come from our group? He has to take them all seriously, are they real, I don't know, but they can't be ignored. What if just one is credible, he does not work here anymore, there is no reason for him to continue to place himself in danger, for what? Why should he fight a battle and risk his safety or most importantly the safety of his family? What price does he have to pay? The dog is his private property, and he never accepted the departments attempt to buy his silence after the event was public. He owes nobody anything, he certainly owes the department nothing, but he absolutely owes it to his family to keep them safe!
So far our only action is chasing down vets across three states, has anything been done to address the many serious allegations? Did the FOP president call the DOJ as he publicly stated he would? Are these not important questions, why are they not being asked? Why are we chasing vets for an ex-employee, instead of investigating the misconduct that was reported about current and still working officers?
It all seems so wrong and yet so typical. I believe Earl must take the situation very seriously, this is no joke! I believe his safety is in jeopardy, and obviously so does he based on his decision to stop talking. Good for him, it is the right decision, and he should be left alone. Let's demand the chief answer questions, there are many out there, and she has answered none.
I have tried to call Earl, he avoids my call. I understand and don't blame him, he doesn't know who to trust and is going to be focused on keeping his family safe, what else is more important!
The threats, the bullying, the intimidation, it all continues, now it is Dipino in her capacity as the chief doing it publicly! Make no mistake this is what happens behind our closed doors, even worse! At no point has she put Kirkpatrick out to answer the one simple question, did he ever claim the council was preventing him from getting Charlie the necessary treatment. If Charlie was not in poor health, why did he sell the best performing K-9 in Ocean City's history for one dollar ($1.00)? Let's get these answers.
Councilmen Hall says he never spoke to Kirkpatrick, did anyone? Did Kirkpatrick tell Earl he was being stymied by the council, these are questions that need to be answered. These are electing officials and Kirkpatrick is a tax payer supported employee, he should be forced to respond, but he isn't? Why, why are we so focused on attacking a private citizen who owns his pet, and ignoring the questions that really need to be addressed? If its truth we are after, the first question is to Kirkpatrick, let's demand accountably from us, the cops and the brass at 65th street.

Man In Santa Suit Killed 6 Relatives
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) - Police in a quiet Fort Worth suburb worked Monday to piece together a family history after a man dressed in a Santa Claus suit apparently shot six relatives and himself on Christmas.
Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling said the shooter showed up in the Santa outfit shortly before gunfire erupted and that the family appeared to have been opening Christmas presents. Police responding to a 911 call found four women and three men dead, along with two handguns.
"We think he was just inside there celebrating Christmas with the rest of them and decided for whatever reason that's how he's going to end things," Eberling told The Associated Press.

Troopers intend to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on our highways during this holiday season with Troopers focusing on distracted driving, motorists not wearing seat belts, unrestrained children in vehicles, and any aggressive driving behaviors such as speeding, following too close, and especially, driving under the influence.
By following these easy steps, a driver can enjoy a safe and festive holiday without jeopardizing their life or the lives of others who may be on the road:

· Before drinking, please designate a sober driver and give that person your keys
· If you’re impaired, use a taxi, call a sober friend or family member, or use public transportation so you are sure to get home safely

Paul: 'Descent Into Totalitarianism'
GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul warned that the National Defense Authorization Act, which was passed by Congress this month, will accelerate the country’s “slip into tyranny” and virtually assures “our descent into totalitarianism.”
“The founders wanted to set a high bar for the government to overcome in order to deprive an individual of life or liberty,” Paul, the libertarian congressman, said Monday in a weekly phone message to supporters. “To lower that bar is to endanger everyone. When the bar is low enough to include political enemies, our descent into totalitarianism is virtually assured. The Patriot Act, as bad as its violations against the Fourth Amendment was, was just one step down the slippery slope. The recently passed National Defense Authorization Act continues that slip into tyranny, and in fact, accelerates it significantly.”
The NDAA is the nearly $670 billion defense spending bill that covers the military budget and funding for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
One controversial provision mandates the detention of terror suspects and reaffirms the administration’s authority to detain those suspected of having ties to terrorist organizations.
“The Fifth Amendment is about much more than the right to remain silent in the face of government questioning,” Paul continued. “It contains very basic and very critical stipulations about the due process of law. The government cannot imprison a person for no reason and with no evidence presented and without access to legal council. The danger of the NDAA is its alarmingly vague, undefined criteria for who can be indefinitely detained by the U.S. government without trial.”
“It is no longer limited to members of Al Qaeda or the Taliban, but anyone accused of substantially supporting such groups or associated forces,” Paul continued. “How closely associated, and what constitutes substantial support? What if it was discovered that someone who committed a terrorist act was once involved with a charity? Or suppose a political candidate? Are all donors of that candidate or supporters of that candidate now suspects and subject to indefinite detainment? Is that charity now an associated force?”

Foreign policy expert and Newsmax columnist Arnaud de Borchgrave says that U.S. intelligence agencies were “totally blind” to the death of North Korea leader Kim Jong Il – a huge failing in confronting one of the most unstable regimes in the world.
Despite the massive resources of the United States’ 16 intelligence services, with 100,000 employees and a combined annual budget of about $80 billion a year, the Obama administration didn’t know about Kim’s death until North Korea finally announced it on Dec. 18.
Kim died of a heart attack while traveling through his country on a train, according to the state-controlled media in North Korea. Other sources in South Korea have suggested that he may have been murdered to ease a transition to a government ostensibly headed by his son backed by a cadre of generals.
The U.S. State Department finally acknowledged the press reports many hours after the official North Korean announcement.
North Korea should be high on U.S. intelligence radar, especially with its nuclear capability and open enmity toward U.S. ally South Korea.
The border between the two countries is considered one of the three or four most dangerous flashpoints in the world – a place where hundreds of thousands of people could die in a matter of minutes if war erupted.
Nonetheless, the U.S. intelligence agencies missed “something as easy to spot as a train . . . the only train moving around North Korea, with the boss on board, and somebody stops and there’s a flurry of activity . . . You’d think somebody would have spotted something,” said de Borchgrave, director of the Transnational Threats Project at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
His comments echoed other criticism in the media since the death of the North Korean dictator, who ruled over what has been dubbed “the hermit kingdom” because of its extreme isolation from the rest of the world.

Police: Christmas Eve Robbers meet Match
Two would-be Christmas Eve robbers met their match when police say the Greenwood homeowners they intended to rob fought back.
Jared S. Pentoney, 24, of Seaford and Adam J. Presock, 27, of Laurel broke into a home at 3:04 a.m. in the 400 block of Mill Street, said Chief Mark Anderson of the Greenwood Police Department.
Inside the home, Anderson said, the men assaulted several occupants but fled after the homeowners defended themselves.

Cops: Gunman Who Killed 6 Relatives Wore Santa Outfit
GRAPEVINE, Texas — The man believed to have killed six relatives and then himself on Christmas Day was dressed as Santa Claus, police said Monday.

Stallion Castration Plan On Hold Until Court Rules
RENO, Nevada — Federal land managers have agreed to postpone their precedent-setting plan to castrate hundreds of wild stallions in eastern Nevada pending a federal court's review of the issue.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management's action came a week after a coalition of conservationists and wild-horse defenders sued the government in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., to block the plan's implementation.

"Mega Monday" Adding Sizzle For Retailers

It's "Mega-Monday," and retailers expect the day after Christmas to be one of busiest shopping days of the year.
It will also likely be the biggest day for returns and exchanges.
And this Christmas was a little brighter for the nation's retailers, with holiday sales up 3.8 percent over a year earlier, according to the national retail federation.
Final sales figures for the two month period are expected to hit $469 billion nationwide, reports CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller.

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A former Baltimore banking executive is facing federal mail fraud charges.
Prosecutors accuse Rosamaria T. Somarriba, a former assistant vice president for M&T Bank, of using fraudulently obtained funds to pay American Express bills and her taxes. She's accused of defrauding a federal export credit agency and an international corporation, taking more than $223,000 between 2006 and 2011.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Somarriba started with the bank in 1985 and was fired this year. She worked in the bank's international trade finance division.

WASHINGTON -- Just in time for the holidays, Congress voted Friday morning to pass a payroll tax cut extension bill that also would postpone Medicare cuts for doctors, ending the political standoff that threatened to cut reimbursements to physicians by 27 percent.
The Senate and the House of Representatives both passed the bill by unanimous consent Saturday morning, with no opposition. The bill -- which would extend a payroll tax break, unemployment benefits, and postpone the Medicare cut scheduled to take effect Jan. 1 -- now goes to the president for his signature.

There have been rumblings, though, about his operation of an open sleigh without a helmet – and the need to fit said sleigh with Daytime Running Lamps to improve its visibility. It does not meet current federal bumper impact standards and Rudolph’s red nose is clearly a problem as it could be construed as impersonating an emergency vehicle.
It will have to go.
Then there is the issue of Santa’s time behind the reigns. DOT rules say no more than 11 hours in a given 24. Luckily, Christmas eve is just one night – but Santa had better keep his logs straight, just in case.
His “papers,” too.
Santa should expect to be stopped several times at various checkpoints – where a bearded male with headgear will surely arouse suspicion of evil-doing. What could be under that thick coat? What’s in that bag? Isn’t red the color of martyrdom? Has he been drinking tonight? Just look at that red nose. Spread ‘em! Santa should be prepared for his Enhanced Pat Down and Body Cavity Search.

What do solar energy companies have in common with Second Lieutenants on the first day of the Somme? Yes, that's right. (H/T GWPF)
In Germany, especially, the attrition rate has been amazing. According to Reuters, no fewer than 5,000 German solar companies have gone bust in the last year, shedding around 20,000 jobs.
Workers in Germany's once booming solar energy industry face a shakeout of major proportions following declines in the price of solar panels over the past year.
Cuts in subsidies for solar energy, weaker demand for panels and fierce competition from cheaper Asian rivals are eating into what was once the world's biggest hub for the production of solar cells, taking the shine off an industry that was effectively born in Germany.
Well boo hoo. That's the price you pay for building an industry which should never have existed in the first place – and certainly wouldn't have done had it not been for the heavy subsidy programme launched a decade ago by the Schroeder-led Green/Social Democrat coalition.
Whenever I make this point, the menagerie of trolls who congregate below this blog go into paroxysms of self-righteous rage, accusing me of heartlessness. No, trolls: heartless is when governments confiscate money from taxpayers and squander it on creating fake (aka "green") jobs in fake industries which go bust the second the exchequer realises it no longer has enough money to keep them on the life support machine.
And though, as I've said before, I have a certain degree of sympathy for the workers who joined the solar industry in good faith, imagining it had – ho ho – a bright future and would provide them with a lasting career, I have none whatsoever for those at management/investment level. If people like Tom Singh, brother of Britain's third most-famous celebrity mathematician Simon Singh, end up getting their fingers badly burned by solar, well, caveat emptor. Presumably they must have done their due diligence. And if they did, it would have been perfectly clear that solar power is little more than a rent-seeker's charter: it does not – and quite possibly never will – create real value; it is obviously unsuited to northern climes; it is, like most renewable energy, yet another pernicious scheme by which wealth is transferred compulsorily from the poor into the pockets of the rich and cynical.
Something similar is happening to the European carbon trading industry. In November last year, you'll gleefully recall, the US Chicago Carbon Trading Exchange (CCX) collapsed when, in the space of two years, the carbon dioxide price fell from $7 a tonne to 7 cents a tonne. And where the US leads, Europe follows.

The Economic Solutions Of Vampires
The vampire bat is a horrifying pig-nosed wart of a creature which feasts in a manner that, believe it or not, is a rather familiar scene to those of us who closely study alternative economics. After erratically flittering about in the sinking evening sky, it targets the warmth of a sleeping farm animal and latches onto it with its claws. Carefully, it inserts a fang into a vein dense region of the creature’s body, and laps away at the blood. Normally, the oblivious livestock are completely unaware and helpless to the attack. The tiny parasite does not inflict an immediately mortal blow to its host, but over time, disease and physical debilitation result. The vampire has destroyed the animal, and, pathetically, the animal has no idea.
Just as in nature, the economic world has its own bloodsucking vermin in the form of banking elites which are a wretched drain on the whole of the human race. Without their vicious and predatory presence, I envision a world so rapturously above and beyond what we wallow in today that it is impossible to describe. The disgust many feel when considering the virulent feeding habits of the common mosquito or the slithering leech does nothing to compare to the utter gut churning revulsion I feel when studying the financial habits of banks like the Federal Reserve and the “too big to fails”. They are without a doubt the most malignant form of social cancer imaginable.
And yet, after nearly four years of ongoing fiscal exsanguination, a sizable portion of the American populace is still looking to these pests for economic comfort and reassurance, just like farm animals consistently grazing near the entrance of a vampire bat cave, as if it is a shelter from harm. Worst of all is the willingness by which investors still, to this day, commit their savings and their livelihoods to the stock market meat grinder. Let’s be honest; the typical American daytrading investor is a complete moron. They have absolutely no sense of the fundamentals of our financial structure nor the eccentric rules by which it operates. They only have the faintest inkling of the functions of the highly manipulated stock market. They foolishly believe that what little money they make today riding the wave of an illegitimate liquidity driven rally they will actually get to keep. For them, stock investment is no different from buying a scratch-off lotto ticket at a hillbilly gas station; it is a cheap and tawdry game rife with failure but exciting to play, if only for a fleeting guilt addled thrill.

You can boil down Paul's position on anything by asking, "is it constitutional?". He doesn't flip flop on issues because he sticks to his principles. Does he support the IRS and income tax? No, because it's unconstitutional. Does he support the Federal Reserve and the fiat dollar? No, because it's unconstitutional. And, the reason he believes in the constitution is because he believes it is the best document written to uphold freedom and liberty.

Candidates Should Return Tainted Funds From Richard Stewart
O’Malley Advisor Who Plead Guilty to Tax Evasion Gave $75,000 to Democratic Candidates
ANNAPOLIS - Governor Martin O’Malley answered last week’s calls from Republicans to dismiss his friend and political advisor, Richard Stewart, as the only civilian commissioner on the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Committee and as a member the Maryland Stadium Authority. The Governor attempted to distance himself from the situation by following the dismissal with the claim that he was “clueless.”
According to the Department of Justice, “From 2003 through at least 2008, Stewart did not collect, truthfully account for and pay over approximately $3,969,337 of Federal Insurance Contribution Act (FICA) taxes and federal income tax withholdings, commonly known as trust fund taxes, from his employees’ wages.” Stewart plead guilty to the charges and now faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
David Ferguson, Executive Director of the Maryland Republican Party, commented by saying, “This is not a matter of left or right, but right and wrong. As more facts come to light, it would be entirely appropriate if the candidates who received stolen money return the contributions.”
Ferguson continued, “It is unfortunate Governor O'Malley feels character flaws and criminal activity are irrelevant when he selects advisors to manage the people’s business. Whether he was willfully ignorant or simply irresponsible, either is dangerous and detrimental to Maryland’s future.”
According to the Federal Elections Commission and the Center for American Politics at the University of Maryland, Stewart made contributions to 48 candidates totalling nearly $73,230 during the time frame he was was stealing from his employees. Among his largest benefactors were Governor Martin O’Malley, Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, and the Maryland Democratic Party.
The average donation per candidate was $1,525.63, almost three times the average weekly income of a Prince George’s County resident.

Just wanted to give you and update on Eric’s condition. He was moved from ICU yesterday to room 3022 in the Layton Towers (one floor above the ICU). He is doing great for just having double bypass surgery and has seen the comments on your site and they have probably made him feel super and well liked and respected. I know he wants to thanks all those who have written. The doctors are even talking about him coming home this week, maybe Wednesday or Thursday, depending on his condition.
Thanks to you and all of his friends, He doesn’t like to refer to them as customers or clients.

SANTA AND GRANDMA
I remember tearing across town on my bike to visit her on the day my big sister dropped the bomb: "There is no Santa Claus," she jeered. "Even dummies know that!"
My Grandma was not the gushy kind, never had been. I fled to her that day because I knew she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told the truth, and I knew that the truth always went down a whole lot easier when swallowed with one of her "world-famous" cinnamon buns. I knew they were world-famous, because Grandma said so. It had to be true.
Grandma was home, and the buns were still warm. Between bites, I told her everything. She was ready for me. "No Santa Claus?" she snorted...."Ridiculous! Don't believe it. That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad!! Now, put on your coat, and let's go."
"Go? Go where, Grandma?" I asked. I hadn't even finished my second world-famous cinnamon bun. "Where" turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. That was a bundle in those days. "Take this money," she said, "and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car." Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.
I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people scrambling to finish their Christmas shopping.
For a few moments I just stood there, confused, clutching that ten-dollar bill, wondering what to buy, and who on earth to buy it for.
I thought of everybody I knew: my family, my friends, my neighbors, the kids at school, the people who went to my church.
I was just about thought out, when I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker. He was a kid with bad breath and messy hair, and he sat right behind me in Mrs. Pollock's grade-two class. Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out to recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but all we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough; he didn't have a good coat. I fingered the ten-dollar bill with growing excitement. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat!
I settled on a red corduroy one that had a hood to it. It looked real warm, and he would like that.
"Is this a Christmas present for someone?" the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. "Yes, ma'am," I replied shyly. "It's for Bobby."
The nice lady smiled at me, as I told her about how Bobby really needed a good winter coat. I didn't get any change, but she put the coat in a bag, smiled again, and wished me a Merry Christmas.
That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat (a little tag fell out of the coat, and Grandma tucked it in her Bible) in Christmas paper and ribbons and wrote, "To Bobby, From Santa Claus" on it.
Grandma said that Santa always insisted on secrecy. Then she drove me over to Bobby Decker's house, explaining as we went that I was now and forever officially, one of Santa's helpers.
Grandma parked down the street from Bobby's house, and she and I crept noiselessly and hid in the bushes by his front walk. Then Grandma gave me a nudge. "All right, Santa Claus," she whispered, "get going."
I took a deep breath, dashed for his front door, threw the present down on his step, pounded his door and flew back to the safety of the bushes and Grandma.
Together we waited breathlessly in the darkness for the front door to open. Finally it did, and there stood Bobby.
Fifty years haven't dimmed the thrill of those moments spent shivering, beside my Grandma, in Bobby Decker's bushes. That night, I realized that those awful rumors about Santa Claus were just what Grandma said they were -- ridiculous. Santa was alive and well, and we were on his team.
I still have the Bible, with the coat tag tucked inside: $19.95.

It turns out, “Xmas” is not a non-religious version of “Christmas”. The “X” is actually indicating the Greek letter “Chi”, which is short for the Greek, meaning “Christ”. So “Xmas” and “Christmas” are equivalent in every way except their lettering.
In fact, although writing guides such as those issued by the New York Times; the BBC; The Christian Writer’s Manual of Style; and Oxford Press discourage the use of Xmas in formal writing, at one time, it was a very popular practice, particularly with religious scribes, who are thought to have started the whole “Xmas” thing in the first place. WICOMICO COUNTY: BEND OVER FOR RICK POLLITT’S XMAS GIFT!
Sorry Rick, but we just could not wait until the big day to open your package – AND WE DON’T WANT YOUR “GIFT.”
If you have not heard – and the Daily Times has been silent about it – Mr. Pollitt wants the County Council to pledge that it will support the funding by the County, about $40 Million, that would be required to get that “free” state money to build the proposed new Bennett Middle School. That would require a property tax increase of at least 7 cents (that’s about 10%) to fund payment of the bonds that would be issued, while County roads and other infrastructure would remain largely ignored.
The Council is already being barraged by calls and e-mails from the group that the Board of Ed. and the Rickster have organized to lobby for this outrageous nonsense. No doubt the usual band of tax and spend yahoos – Phil Tilghman, Bill McCain, Tony Sarbanes (to name some of the more prominent) will be too. Look for a simultaneous effort to kill the tax revenue cap, along with even higher taxes, if they succeed.

Who's Telling The Truth?
Today the Daily Times, (once again) partnered up with the OCPD in an attempt to discredit Earl Campbell. The funniest part about their article, (to me) is as follows. #1, they published it on a Saturday, the worst day circulation wise because their article is crap. #2, they once again went on the attack against Salisbury News. Yeah, they never used our name but every one knows how big we are "local gossip site".
Well, call us what you like. The fact that they're throwing punches and then running away simply tells me we're doing our job and THEY are forgetting, no matter what the outcome is, Earl Campbell came to us with a story that even they ran but we had it weeks before they did. I was asked by Mr. Campbell from day one to HOLD the story, (in which I did) until he formerly resigned.
Now, here's the kicker. Below are just a couple of remarks that came out from the OCPD. With all due respect, I must challenge it and you'll see why.
DiPino said she asked her department to research where the surgery took place, and police contacted veterinarians across Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.
Officers looking for proof the dog had surgery came back empty-handed, according to DiPino.
OK, can any one of YOU tell me what right DiPino and her Department had using up ALL of those resources to investigate an animal that was no longer in their possession or their property? Can you tell me what Veterinarian would PROVIDE such information without a subpoena? Did the OCPD LIE to ALL of these Veterinarians claiming the dog was still theirs?
One way or the other, I'd say the OCPD absolutely violated the law by doing what they did and Mr. Campbell, (IMHO) has every right to go after Ocean City. Nevertheless, Earl's neighbors can attest for a fact that Charlie did in fact recently have the surgery. One thing is for sure, based on ALL the hype about Charlie, the Veterinarian that performed the surgery would NOT give ANYONE any answers about Charlie. USE YOUR HEADS PEOPLE.
Now, one thing I know to be a FACT and the Daily Times even admitted it, Earl Campbell is more than willing to provide the information and receipts to the Council IF they are wiling to give him the meeting he has been asking for since day one. His intent is to MAKE A DIFFERENCE for future K-9 Dogs down the road. Funny how the Council has NOT taken Earl up on that offer.
Anyone with eyes can see that Charlie is shaved and has had the surgery THEY are challenging didn't happen. In my honest opinion, if attention is distracted AWAY from the COMMENTS from our original Post on this matter, the OCPD wins. IF people go back and see what was said in the hundreds of comments, well, it doesn't look very good on the Department even if only a fraction of them are true and accurate. I have received hundreds of comments today and several e-mail messages concerning this matter. I hope this clears everything up. Now I have some final shopping to do and I look forward to looking at comments when I return.
In closing, shame on you Daily Times. You're a propaganda piece for the municipalities and you can no longer be trusted as a Newspaper. You have NO evidence the surgery wasn't done and you have attempted to discredit an honorable man and his Family.

Obama Says He's Not Bound By Guantanamo, Gun-control Provisions
President Obama said Friday he will not be bound by at least 20 policy riders in the 2012 omnibus funding the government, including provisions pertaining to Guantanamo Bay and gun control.
After he signed the omnibus into law Friday, the White House released a concurrent signing statement saying Obama will object to portions of the legislation on constitutional grounds.
Signing statements are highly controversial, and their legality is disputed.
"I have advised the Congress that I will not construe these provisions as preventing me from fulfilling my constitutional responsibility to recommend to the Congress's consideration such measures as I shall judge necessary and expedient," Obama said in a statement as he signed the bill into law.
The signing statement says that on the issue of accused terrorist detainees, Obama will interpret and apply provisions that bar the transfer of detainees from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, "in a manner that avoids constitutional conflicts."
Obama also objected to Defense provisions in the bill that limit the president's ability to put troops under foreign command and require 30 days advance notice to Congress for any use of the military which would involve more than $100,000 in construction costs.
The president also objected to a section aimed at blocking health, climate, auto policy and urban affairs "czars" from being employed by the White House and a provision that bars health officials from advocating for gun control. The signing statement also objects to a portion of the omnibus that limits funding for the Copyright Office.
The statement also objects to numerous unnamed provisions in the bill that would require executive branch officials to clear everyday spending decisions with appropriators.
Of these extra conditions, Obama writes, "our spending decisions shall not be treated as dependent on the approval of congressional committees."

Justice Dept. Blocks Voter ID Law In S. Carolina
South Carolina’s new law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls was blocked by the U.S. Justice Department, which says it would have a discriminatory impact on minorities.
The Obama administration says the new law burdens "non-white voters."
The Justice Department’s decision, announced in a letter today to South Carolina Assistant Deputy Attorney General C. Havird Jones, is the first time the Obama administration has intervened against any of the eight states that enacted new voter ID laws or tightened existing ones this year.

Congress To Fund Massive Expansion Of TSA Checkpoints
Congress is set to give the green light on funding for a massive expansion of TSA checkpoints, with the federal agency already responsible for over 9,000 such checkpoints in the last year amidst increased fears America is turning into a police state following the passage of the ‘indefinite detention’ bill.
The increase in funding has nothing to do with the TSA’s role in airports – this is about creating 12 more VIPR teams to add the federal agency’s 25 units that are already scattered across the country and responsible for manning checkpoints on highways, in bus and train terminals, at sports events and even high school prom nights.
“The TSA’s 25 “viper” teams — for Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response — have run more than 9,300 unannounced checkpoints and other search operations in the last year. Department of Homeland Security officials have asked Congress for funding to add 12 more teams next year,” reports the L.A. Times.
The demand for $24 million in extra funding is in addition to the $110 million spent in fiscal year 2011. The figures are completely independent from the federal agency’s role inside the nation’s airports, which costs taxpayers $5 billion a year.
The extra money is being demanded despite the fact that there is “no proof that the roving viper teams have foiled any terrorist plots or thwarted any major threat to public safety,” according to the L.A. Times report, which also highlights how the TSA’s sniffer dogs are used to single out people for questioning if the dog smells the scent of the owner’s pets on their clothing.
The appearance of thousands more checkpoints on America’s highways and at key transport hubs will only heighten concerns that the country is headed towards a Soviet-style police state.
Such fears were again expressed last week following the passage of the National Authorization Defense Act, a provision of which empowers the government to arrest Americans and hold them in a detention camp with no legal recourse.
With the federal government now seeking contractors to provide staff and supplies for “emergency camps” located around the country, the possibility of innocent Americans being swept up in a dragnet following a declaration of a national emergency has never been more of a threat.

Lewes, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a single vehicle crash in which two people were killed that occurred early this morning.
The incident happened at approximately 12:50 a.m. as Dakota R. Sabia, 20, was operating a 2009 Hyundai and was traveling westbound on SR 24 east of Robinsonville Road. For an unknown reason, Sabia lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway and began rotating in counter clockwise direction. Her vehicle then crossed the eastbound lane of the road before exiting the highway and striking a tree with its front passenger side door. A 22 year old Millsboro, DE man who was seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
Dakota Sabia was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Beebe Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at approximately 5:20 a.m.
Both occupants of the vehicle were properly restrained at the time of the crash. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor at this time. John J. Williams Highway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
The crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

HISTORICAL COMMENTS BY GEORGE CHEVALLIER
ChristmasLet me begin by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. Even though the Christmas season has changed dramatically since I was enthralled by the prospect of the arrival of Santa Claus, everyone can still bring back the spirit of Christmas.
When I was in the second grade in 1950, St. Francis held a midnight Mass. Being one of the two smallest boys; I was one of the lead pair of acolytes in the Christmas procession that led to the altar. The adrenaline rush that got me up the aisle quickly wore off and I was just like any other seven-year old at that time of night. When we had finished marching up the aisle and were seated, I think I immediately fell asleep. I continued this ritual throughout my early years at St. Francis.
Christmas did not officially begin until well after Thanksgiving. It was about the second week of December that the stores started decorating and displaying their Christmas wares. The stores downtown all had fabulous merchandise. White and Leonard Drug Store had a toy display set up on the second floor. L. W. Gunby Hardware Store had a special “not-for-sale” Christmas display in their window that showed many antique toys.
The annual Christmas parade was always on a Saturday. This was because the stores were prohibited from opening on Sunday, and the local merchants loved the fact that the parade brought many shoppers downtown. The parade had bands from the local high schools and many floats from local organizations.. At the end of the parade was good ol’ St. Nick. We had one motorcycle in the Salisbury Police Department fleet at that time, and it was always ridden by Sgt. Paul Barnett. In time, he donned a red suit and became known as Sgt. Santa Claus.
Many organizations spent a lot of time on their floats, and the results were everything a young boy full of the season could ask for. It always seemed to instill in everyone a generous amount of Christmas cheer that carried over throughout the entire season.
Usually, the majority of presents were clothes that were sorely needed. But there was always that special large toy that I had been asking for since October. One year, my father and mother (Santa) got me a tin filling station. Years later, they admitted that putting it together after I went to bed was quite a task for my Pop. Now, he was a mechanical engineer, but I don’t think his work included tin filling stations. He was much better at the gas pumps at real filling stations. It was a great thrill when I raced downstairs on Christmas morning and saw it.
We were never the type of family that scrimped all year and went all out at Christmas. As I came into my years of having a car, I might get a set of tires in September along with a hearty “Merry Christmas”. My father’s brothers and sisters were all in Buffalo, and their package was always eagerly anticipated, because they always gave toys. Mom set up her nativity scene every year with the baby Jesus carefully missing until Christmas day, and we always had a real tree. The only outside lights we had was one string of Christmas lights around the front door. Early on, my parents didn’t put up the tree until my sister and I had gone to bed. That must have been a lot of work in a very short time. But, I’m sure the looks on our little faces as we came down the stairs on Christmas morning made it all worthwhile.
Christmas can still be a time of magic if you just remember why we are celebrating the occasion. No matter what the stores proclaim in their never-ending pursuit of the almighty dollar, we can still wish someone a “Merry Christmas”. If you have the proper spirit, nothing can diminish the joy you will feel at this very special time of the year. MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!
GoDaddy's SOPA Support Sparks Calls For Boycotts And Domain Transfers
The list of companies that support the controversial piece of U.S. legislation called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) is fairly predictable. It includes huge media conglomerates, music industry groups, pharmaceutical companies and the like. One name that stands out, however, is that of domain name registrar GoDaddy. Whereas many of the big Web technology companies have come out in opposition to SOPA, GoDaddy enthusiastically supports the proposed law.
Not unsurprisingly, this news does not sit well with many of the Internet's most vocal SOPA opponents, especially on Reddit. A thread that popped up on the site today decries GoDaddy's support for SOPA and encourages users to transfer their domains to another provider. The conversation, which has more than a few choice words for GoDaddy, has grown quite long.
