With car alarm blaring, off-duty cop shot teen in head after boy's phone flashed: JPSO

An off-duty college campus police officer investigating why a car alarm was blaring outside his Metairie home shot a teenager in the head after a bright light on the boy’s cell phone suddenly flashed, something the officer mistook as a firing gun, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office said its detectives are still investigating the confrontation that led William Daniel Short to shoot a 14-year-old boy in Metairie last week. Short has not been booked with a crime, and sheriff’s investigators intend to consult with the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office to determine whether he should face charges.

Always know your target clearly, your background, and dont touch the trigger until above noted.

A camera flash ?

GTFO man.... the Campus cop was not under direct threat

at a minimum he should face manslaughter charges

Kill the rioters

Wow, this is clearly a very good reason to loot and shoot. Maybe burn a town or two down. Whatever else you can think of, go for it. Please social distance and wear masks.

This is the last thing I would post on my blog after what the hell is going on.

Always know your target clearly, etc. Now that’s not bad advise from someone that can’t read. How can one be charged with manslaughter without a death? Sorry, but I can’t take any advise from U.

If you have a blog 3:28, you don’t have to post it if you feel that strong about it. Sounds like you don’t trust your local thugs and concerned they could erupt.

Tragic event, local event, soon to be a civil suit against the shooter.
Not anyone else's problem. Pray for the family and friends. Move on.

Why was there a camera flash? Kid taking a selfie of the break in he just did on the car? Might very well have been a case of "culling the herd" this kid taking photo's when approached by an armed guard, STUPID!

Some phones have a feature that activates the camera when the phone is shaken. After that, just touching the screen triggers the camera and flash.

When you Loot we shoot, when you flash we Blast! LAPD motto

What is a 14 year old doing out at 3:10am? New Orleans and the surrounding area, Metairie, have been plagued with almost nightly vehicle break-ins. These break-ins occur even if there is nothing left in the vehicles, "maybe it's hidden". Also a lot of gun violence by these teenage and younger gangs of thugs.
Be smart, don't get close enough to set off a car alarm at 3am! Or better yet stay the F*** home.
