Very disappointed in our local OC council and county commissioners. Now that restaurants can open for outside dining - these governing bodies have required additional permits and the local health department must also approve the request. After nearly 90 days of shut down, why did these leaders wait until the last minute announcement of opening for outside dining to issue these decrees? Yes, they are now going to expedite the processing and/or allow for opening if the application for a permit is filed, but this does NOTHING to help our restaurants who have suffered throughout this pandemic. Simply no need for these permits. These restaurants already have licenses to operate, why make another hurdle for these owners to jump through at the last minute? I just continue to shake my head in wonderment of the decision-making process, or lack thereof, by our local government leaders. Real leadership would have simply allowed these restaurants to open for outside dining without any additional permitting. Our local restaurant owners can handle the pandemic-imposed restrictions - of that I'm confident. So, instead of requiring these permits, please trust our local businesses to open properly and conduct business as they know how.

Joe go ahead and just tell them tell all of the viewers the truth. Or if you would give me the pleasure of doing it and not allowing anyone to come back at you I can explain exactly why this issue is happening. Your elected officials have been notified of certain issues pertaining to the whole situation at hand that being said behind closed doors and without public knowledge council members discussed All issues affecting themselves as well as friends in the community with businesses and the OC locals as well. It was made clear that without these certain permits with or without fees would be the only way to wash their hands of any wrongdoing if our governor wants to come down on them because of Ocean city being a popular place basically the most popular place in all of Maryland as far as the amount of people visiting and the revenue. The city decided with the advice of their attorneys and W County and their attorneys the only way possible is with these stipulations that can cover the city and county.

These people need to be held personally responsible. Let’s start reminding people of their names.

Nice post. I agree entirely.

It's called living in a Blue State where liberals rule. Sadly business did lose money and the government who rules wants their money - any way they can get it.
The Red states are doing just fine opening up business and trying to generate revenues. The thing the blues forget is that it's the working mans taxes that generate governments revenues. But whatever.
Lockdown Maryland.
Stupid fools.

Just another tax. How much do the permits cost?

No business should be required to pay property tax for the period in which it was forced by the government to remain closed!

Remember all this heartache when you vote. These are the people who promised to represent you while shaking your arm off with one hand and then holding the other out for a donation. If you think about it, not aprizing them when they ask again of how much they acted like an ass or not at all and how much unnecessary trouble they were the purveyors of, giving them your money
in hopes of help in times like these doesn't make much sense.

I'm not an owner of one of these establishment. I'm not from the industry. But with all this the first thing that comes to my mind is. Even if there are no permit fees. Your expecting owners who have had limited to zero income for months to now fork up additional money to meet insane demands for outdoor seating. That honestly are not going to change anything. Just let them have normal outdoor seating, when you get up from your table put a mask on to go to the rest room, and disinfect seating between groups. Why does this have to be turned into an insane line item of bs, especially with the no music.

I truly wish the owners and those with money would get together hire a big name law firm from a major city and sue the city. An elected executive cannot create laws or orders that have civil or criminal penalties its plain and simple, read the constitution. Joe I don't know how much money you have. But I really wish you would start a GoFundMe to back you and just open and don't toe the line to the rules let them try and shut you down and even if they do lets sue and help you and make you even richer than you are and show these elected officials there place in our society. They are supposed to work for the people, not against the people.

As I understand, they are relaxing these and will allow openings in confidence that the businesses follow up. I see nothing wrong with it. And there are no additional fees. I see ALOT of restaurants opening Friday that have never had outdoor seating prior.

I've been away from OC for 11 years, but i can tell you, as a business person who ran large events all over the country, that OC has "BY FAR" been the hardest city I've ever dealt with. Yes, they are successful, but they chase off more business, than they realise. They do everything but say " Just give is your money, and get outta town". Once they see your event is a money maker, the just squeeze the organizer more, with fees, regulations etc. I've met good people that work for the city, and formed relations, but the actual "movers" of the city ate extremely un-accommodating.

If u are not part of the OC Circle....well...

Again they really don't care about you
Remember they all still keep getting paid regardless of anything so they never have any worries

No, the restaurants already can't handle the pandemic restrictions because you can't control how those customers are going to behave. They've been cooped up for months and think they can go wild now that they're out. They don't social distance and restaurants cannot control them unless they hire a bouncer. The business should not be fined when it's the customers who are violating the rules.

Did you mean to type: the Blue Lodge?

The business owners of ocean city need to start calling the city council so they have to respond personally to each owner.

Classic City Fail. Need to consider elimination of behind closed doors meetings.

Since I moved to ocean City in 1993 Meehan has pretty much been the lead in every fubar move made by the town. He pushed the overdevelopment during the housing bubble. He and Mathias pushed for moving ocean City from a blue collar weekly vacation spot to a non resident property owner Utopia. They wasted millions on idiotic traffic studies and dont even get me started on the hundreds of millions they wasted on the convention center. If the people that can actually vote in ocean City elections don't finally get the message that Meehan and Martin and the rest of these clowns don't care about anyone but their special interest groups you never will. It's time for new leadership and a new vision in Ocean City.
