CDC updates guidance to say COVID-19 'does not spread easily' through touching contaminated surfaces

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has updated its guidance on COVID-19 to say that the disease "does not spread easily" on contaminated surfaces.

The disease has always been thought to spread mainly through person-to-person contact by respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. But up until recently, the CDC maintained that the virus could also spread through contact with contaminated surfaces.

Now the CDC says "the virus spreads easily between people" but "does not spread easily in other ways." Under the second section, the guidance reads: "It may be possible for COVID-19 to spread in other ways, but these are not thought to be the main ways the virus spreads."

According to Yahoo News, the guidance used to simply say that spread in other ways "may be possible," without the added disclaimer. This is, of course, a subtle change, but still one of interest.

Slowly they are backtracking on this...of course it is awful that so many died, but states are also changing the death numbers as well from died FROM covid to died WITH...

Not so much as backtracking. CDC said before "could" spread through contact with contaminated surfaces. Now's it is does not spread easily that way. This was something that was already known but in science there needs to be data to back up and now it's in. I offered up my educated opinion on this at the beginning. Just because a virus can remain on a surface for a length of time does not mean it is active and can infect someone. As usual I am correct.

Folks face it. We been had.

Slowly. Yes they are telling half of the truth.
The goal is to slow the economic activity - not a virus. The demand for Credit needs to be kept low to prevent the hyper-inflation of the US Dollar again.

Yes, you may die FROM a blood clot or lung injury/low oxygen, but those things are caused by the cytokine storm from COVID. So, COVID IS the cause of death. The virus is the reason these people ended up in the hospital with those tiny blood clots everywhere.

I have little faith in the CDC. They appear to be guessing at answers to satisfy the public more than doing responsible research.

How does the CDC benefit from slowing economic activity?

Who benefits from slowing economic activity?

Know who buys and sells politicians? How are they going to do that if they have stifled money coffers?

Who benefits? Politicians don't, they don't wanna have to act or be responsible... this only hurts their chances for re-election.

Who benefits?

We're 5 months into the new year...5 months into this. Its a crap shoot and will continue to be.

However people have gotten sick - there is no "shot" yet and folks have died from something that doesn't advanced precautions from a medical standpoint.

I don't think anyone errored since it was an unknown. Yeah we all are pissed but if those in power said nothing, did nothing, woulda coulda shoulda.

Now its up to those same powers to get the nation back on track WITHOUT endangering our precious future (children) come fall. They error on that end and yeah all hell will break loose.

Anticipate caution for our children (including college) and very very anxiety filled months ahead for all when it comes to summer time vacations and going back to work.

Time to move forward - since none of us can FIX the past, nor should we Monday morning QB it either.

Its still an election year so I'm guessing a national rally cry will be coming forthwith with something along the lines of being asked what can we do to help all move forward.

This has been a media driven issue from the beginning as opposed to fact based and that has been a huge problem. People got themselves all amped up because the media strung people along with things like the virus is still *alive* on surfaces after so many hours. Viruses are not alive. They are active or inactive. Just because a virus is detected on a surface does not mean it is still active. To infect it has to be active.
This virus like every other respiratory one is predominately spread by person to person contact. Taking congregate living out of the equation and the lower income are the majority who have gotten it and continue to. This because of high density living-double or more people in one unit/house then those of a higher income.
Going out in public without a mask and getting back to the way it was is not going to cause any outbreaks. Unless of course you go around kissing people or sticking you fingers in you mouth.

705, a strong economy benefits the party in power. The party out of power benefits from a weakened economy, as they can hang it around the neck of the existing leader. In this case, democrats want to unseat Trump and the best way to do it is ruin the economy, blame him, then ride in on a white horse with promises, promises. Also, the nature of the democrat party is dependence. If people have a vibrant and strong economy, they can sustain themselves and do not need as much from the government. If the economy is weak, those who promise the biggest handouts win. Understand?

No reason to not trust the CDC. They aired on the side of caution before research was conclusive.

8:36 Oh bullshit. The CDC lied. WHO lied. China lied. They all lied. And I’d be willing to bet YOU have been putting all the blame on Trump. “Aired on the side of caution”? GTFOH they’ve had 5 months to figure out.

You should have ended that sentence with a question mark. I am not 7:10 but the reason is unknown. It may always be unknown. What is not unknown is that unless the person walked in front of a fast moving train they would still be alive.
In science a lot of times the correlation is clear but not the causation. I like to use an example using our canine companions. We know grapes can have an adverse effect on some dogs. That's been know for years. Vets started seeing sick dogs What was in common was they ate grapes or raisins. The correlation is there. But why no one has been able to determine. In the meantime protocols were put in place to treat dogs who had eaten grapes/raisins.

8:36 Why in the world would you trust the CDC?

Half the people that died were in nursing homes. Half that died in NYC were in nursing homes. None of the tents , ships or ventilators were needed.
Maybe we need to focus on making nursing homes better. Just a thought

CDC is all we have. 5 months with an unknown 850? NO one has ever figured out an unknown sickness in 150 days. It takes YEARS.

- we still haven't conquered Cancer

- we still haven't conquered any complete flu vaccination (its a crap shoot every year based on history)

- social mentality now has many not getting normal vaccinations and we've seen reoccurrences of Measles, Mumps, CHICKEN POX of all things

Simple fact is that science takes time and normally thats YEARS!

Not so fast. There are questions that need answering before this conclusion can be reached and they haven't been yet. Were the patients receiving anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapies for underlying conditions prior to onset of illness? If so had they been discontinued when hospitalized. How many had an undiagnosed pre existing condition?

I would be the best thing in the world to happen but it won't. This because nursing homes are big conglomerates owned by democrats who are large democrat donors. All democrats do not value life and anyone who even attempts to dispute you are a liar. Nursing homes are overwhelmingly funded by Medicaid and even though nursing homes are mostly labeled non profit this because they aren't making a profit but the CEO's and other upper management are making huge salaries which comes out of Medicaid. If a resident goes the hospital for any length of time Medicaid stops flowing. The democrats will ot allow their big donors to loose their gravy train. No way in hell. They will sacrifice the life of the elderly before this would be allowed to happen. Hospitals all over NYC and nationwide were empty. Staff laid off. There was no reason why spacing couldn't have been used to house the residents while they recovered. The temp hospitals and the Comfort coming to NYC was useless something anyone in the know knew. cuomo hollering for more beds more this more that was cuomo showing off. He's a liar it's in his blood his father was lying piece of trash waste of air and so is he.

10:11 I didn’t say they’ve had 5 months to find a cure. Reading comprehension skills needed. I said they’ve had 5 months to know how it can be transmitted. 🙄

1244 - we're a nation that still sends money to dead people, let alone dead people still vote in every election.

So the CDC being able to figure out anything - well it is funny.
