Laurel– The Delaware State Police Financial Crimes Unit have arrested a Salisbury, Maryland man on multiple charges related to a fraud investigation.
The investigation began in September 2018, when a fraud report was filed in reference to a sales agreement that was made with Midway RV & Sales located at 32101 Sussex Highway, Laurel. It was learned that the owner, 57-year-old William G Carey Jr. was taking in consignment used motorhomes and travel trailers and re-selling them. Carey would take the victim’s money to purchase the consigned motorhomes and travel trailers and not pay off the previous liens. Carey would then submit falsified sales invoices to the banks and department of motor vehicles.
During the sale, Carey would offer an extended warranty at an additional charge through a separate vendor. Carey would complete the paperwork but would never submit it to the warranty company or send in the required payment to activate the warranty, keeping the money for himself. It was also discovered that Carey would falsify the bill of sales to get his purchasers qualified for financing through their local banks on high end RV’s.
On April 4, 2019, Carey was taken into custody at his business without incident. He was transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:
- Theft by False Pretense over $1500.00 (4 counts)
- Falsifying Business Records (15 counts)
- Offering False Instrument for Filing
- Defrauding Secured Creditors
- Deceptive Business Practices (6 counts)
Carey was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $25,000.00 unsecured bond.

Had some repair work done there and also considered consigning our 5th wheel. While there he had a call from his bank so he was distracted; he chain smoked and paced incessantly. We left, glad we did.

Everything points to a real scum bag just happy law enforcement got him. One for the good guys keep up the good work. Does anyone know if they ever got the Romeo's Pizza Delivery Business owner in Ocean City for taking credit card #'s over the phone and no deliveries, never heard the outcome?

Well it's Sunday morning and a beautiful weekend it's been. I just had to come back to this thread and look at that mugshot! It absolutely makes me smile Everytime I see it. @9:08 you thought he was chain smoking then I bet he's got one in each hand now. The anxiety and depression from being such a dumbass must be overwhelming. I'll say one thing Delaware and it's court system will give this guy just what he needs. This has been going on for the last ten years are more. It is about f***** time DSP got him. I know of at least five senior citizens he ripped off. I don't know what his poison of choice is but what a jerk. He has to be on drugs. I went to confront him on behalf of an elderly couple who purchased an R.V. could not get their R.V. registration in Maryland. State of Maryland said there was a lien on the RV.The people paid him in full. He had borrowed money against the title and did not pay it off. He is a CROOK his dad was a good and decent man. Sorry but back in the day I would have taken a baseball bat to this turd.
This is sad. His dad BILL CAREY was a very highly respected leader in the community.We had many mutual clients when he was a Banker-Loan officer.
