Franchot condemns consultant firm examining UMMS dealings

ANNAPOLIS, Maryland — Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot condemned the independent consulting firm tasked with reviewing business dealings between the University of Maryland Medical System and multiple members of its board, including Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh.

“This independent commission is independent in name only,” Franchot told Capital News Service Wednesday morning, speaking outside of the Board of Public Works meeting room.

“It should not be relied upon for anything. They just are not set up to get to the bottom of a scandal like this. They’re basically set up to say, ‘Gee, if you changed your board practices in the future, you might not have these scandals.’”

The University of Maryland Medical System hired Nygren Consulting, a California-based business management consultant, to look into the business dealings. Calls to the consulting firm have not been returned.

Franchot is definitely on to something here and should leave no stone unturned where Pugh has been invlolved . He sounds like he has a real nose for coverups and scandals. Good for him and his team. I wish we had him in Salisbury if only for a little while on Day's heels and the $ spent with the backing of the City Council on unwarranted frivolous expenditures which have proven definitely a waste of tax payer money. We have a city that extending north Rt 13 that businesses look like a nasty slum area not appealing to tourists that Day's interest is totally focused on. Instead of festivals and athletic runs and walks, 3rd Fridays, and more bars all over that the needs of the city are not being addressed. We need better roads, tear down or rebuild decrepit city buildings in the rt 13 area. Put back safety along Riverwalk with fencing of some kind. Tear down city homes that are boarded up and been on foreclosed property lists for far too long, They even take houses that were foreclosed and let the owners who had them move back into them, this is just ignorant. Do you think the 2nd time around it's going to be better. Better inspectors who actually care to check the multiple rental properties! These things make college bound students parents approve of them coming here, and also businesses take a second look. That would also result in more jobs, more $ for the area, more home ownership.

It's not often that I agree with Franchot, but this is one of those times.
The Nygren Group isn't, according to its own mission statements, an organization whose main concern is forensic auditing or investigating relationships. Instead, they're a "holistic approach" group whose paid aim is to recommend changes in clients' business plans and structures. They are more remedial than investigative.

Sounds like Franchot might be involved in some crooked dealings with UMMS that he does not want made public. If he was so concerned why is there no recommendation that MD auditors become involved?

Franchot is the only Democrat that consistently gets my vote.

Franchot is deflecting and throwing all attention towards Pugh while his own lies and thievery are still being investigated

What is he being investigated for? Are you sure you don't mean Frosh?

Hogan has already recommended that the state prosecutor investigate and Franchot applauded him it.

Frosh is the one always suing Trump and wasting money.

Franchot seems to be a pretty decent guy even though he is a democrat ha ha.

UMMS should fire whatever attorney it was that said this "sale" was lawful. Same with the MD State's Attorney and the Baltimore City Attorney.
