Man arrested after carrying gasoline cans into St. Patrick’s Cathedral: sources

A man lugging two gasoline cans strode into historic St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Midtown on Wednesday, and was collared by two NYPD counter-terrorism officers, cop sources said.

The man, 37, of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., who may be emotionally disturbed, also carried a lighter on him, the sources said.

The man entered the famed cathedral on Fifth Avenue at 7:55 p.m., with the pair of gas cans, the sources said. His name hasn’t yet been released.

An usher stopped him to talk to him, and police officers assigned to the cathedral stepped in to take him into custody, police sources said.
