It's Official: Maryland Community Colleges to Offer Free Tuition in 2019

Going to community college will be free for many Maryland residents next year.

Gov. Larry Hogan signed a bill Monday the covers tuition costs at community colleges for qualifying residents.

The legislation was approved near the end of this year's legislative session. It will create a $15 million program to provide scholarships of up to $5,000 to students from families earning less than $125,000 a year. Single adults earning less than $90,000 also would be eligible for the money.

Hogan is this where the money the Legislature stole / stealing every year now from the State Retirement Fund and you refused to veto the budgets that included this stolen money? It is proven College is a joke. I see You feel that is more important than a State Employees retirement that worked and contributed to for years. When they leave Community College they, 95%, are just as uneducated as they were when they left High School. They still speak improper English, can't count and give proper change etc. I just paid off my College debt at 66 years old. This young people need to learn responsibility and not expect the government give them something they call free, but I am still paying taxes for their laziness, and I am barely surviving day to day.

I'm sorry, nothing is free.

Although one would argue that "air" is free and I'm inclined to agree, but it makes me wonder if OC City Hall has tried to figure out how to tax air for all of us!

snicker snicker there Rickie!

Great...this moronic RINO is spending more of my tax dollars for socialist entitlements. Thanks Larry. You continue to take away our gun rights while spending more of our tax dollars on losers. Got any more bright ideas? Maybe hand out clean needles to heroin users and provide felons with free education on better ways to commit crimes?

Just shows you how MD politics are. You run for office you are a Democrat no matter what you claim your affiliation you profess.

Taxpayers are paying for this! You should hear
the requirements for grades in order to stay
in the program. Unbelievable!!!

And they will want free cafeteria also to go along with it. Just another program for some to take advantage of because they have no intention of getting a diploma. And some who will get the diploma just for showing up every now and then and hang it on their wall and make no use of it what so ever. Waste of tax payer money.

"They still speak improper English, can't count and give proper change etc."

You forgot to mention that they won't even be able to sign their own names. It's a good thing that they will have direct deposit because they wouldn't be able to sign their own names on their checks.

The checks say "sign" not "print."

Anyone that has a brain knows that this was done to buy votes in the 2018 election from the worthless freeloaders who don't vote for Republicans anyway.

That's right, because he needed their votes to get re-elected. I have had enough of RINO Larry and his Liberal ways.
