News Release: Columbia woman reportedly mauled to death by dog; Robin Conway, 64, had recently adopted pit bull out-of-state
Howard County police were called to a residence in the 6300 block of Tamar Drive Sept. 3 for a report that a woman had been mauled to death by a pit bull she adopted two weeks ago. Officers found Robin Conway, 64, deceased in her back yard with significant injuries. The cause of Conway’s death will be determined in an autopsy by the state medical examiner.
A family member reported finding Conway injured in her yard around 7:20 p.m., with the dog standing over her. The witness called 911 and tied the dog to a fence post until assistance could arrive.
Police and paramedics responded and pronounced Conway deceased at the scene. The dog, still attached to the post, was barking and lunging on the leash and had to be subdued by animal control officers and ultimately euthanized. A necropsy will be performed to determine if the dog had rabies or any other medical issues.
There were no previous calls to animal control related to this address prior to this incident. Police do not have information about the dog’s adoption, except that it came from out-of-state.
Police are conducting a standard death investigation and awaiting autopsy results to confirm the cause of Conway’s death.

I'm an avowed dog/animal lover, but they really need to somehow ban or legislate this breed.
People say "it's the owners - not the dog."
It's going to be tough to ask this particular Pit Bull owner her opinion though, after her dog ate her.
Not the pitbulls fault.
You tie a bull to a tree, you get the horns.
They prefer to lay in soft warm beds.
Wouldn’t you go crazy tied to a post in this weather? I bet so. If you were strong enough, there would be consequences. Stupid people often adopt these dogs because they want ferocity. They treat them horribly, receive the consequences. Just like the dachshunds who killed that lady some months back, it doesn’t happen with well cared for dogs, no matter the breed. The neighbors will say what a good owner they were, while their dog is shackled to a different tree in their backyard. I am surrounded by pitbulls on a daily basis, I can barely get them to wake up, much less mull. All rescued, all treated well, don’t let the media not telling you the whole story create the news. You know, by omitting facts, they do lie........
Some people just don't get it, those doge are very unpredictable and dangerous.
6:57 your ignorance is astounding. Absolutely astounding. All dogs have inherent traits that no matter what can't be "loved" out of them. In other words it doesn't matter how the owner treats the dog these inherent traits can surface at any time and without warning. Retrieving is an inherent trait of a Labrador Retriever as is the love of water. Herding is an inherent trait of an Australian Shepherd and Border Collies.
Aggression is an inherent trait of the pit bull breeds this because they have an extremely high prey drive. You can NOT no matter how they are treated completely control this and to think you can is utter ignorance of the genetics of canines. At any moment without warning something can trigger them to all of a sudden view a human as prey.
6:57 where in the hell did you get the dog was tied to a post for any length of time in this weather! Stop making excuses for these vicious dogs! The dog was only tied up after the husband found his wife mauled to death and the dog standing over her body.
You are not just lying something you accuse other of but you are part of the problem-your dishonesty and ignorance of this breed. YOu are not a responsible pet owner so don't you dare claim you are. If you were responsible you would have non problem admitting there are very serious concerns and dangers related to owning these types of dogs.
That's one dog breed that I won't rescue unless I personally know it and its history.
She was a foster for the dog and the dog was NOT kept tied up! He was let out into the fenced in back yard when she was attacked and killed by him.
This is 6:57, all you biased hate mongers, keep hating. 8:49,show me the study about these facts you espouse. Of course you can’t, so you continue to be a media clown. 8:55,read all the articles and police report, find the facts about how the dog was kept not this limited article. He was being kept outside in the heat. Again though, facts don’t matter, you just blindly follow your bias and the media’s goals to train you.
Pit bulls like at least 6 other dogs have the bite force to hurt you and kill you fairly easily. So many pitbull attack stories is a reality only because in this country almost 80 percent of dogs ,including almost all mutts, are pitbull or pitbull mix. Volume is not causation and those stats don’t account for the socio economic victimhood put upon these dogs.
Your hate is misguided and stupid, not based on facts but ignorance. You won’t change, you don’t need to, there are enough unwilling to be lemmings out here. Please respond to this with more of your unsourced propaganda as facts. CNN may hire you if you keep up.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Pit bulls. It is ABSOLUTELY the owners. That dogs previous owner was probably horrible to him/her.
My question to the defenders of this breed is simple:
Would you allow a Pit Bull to be alone in a room with your child?
