Unarmed Americans killed by cops ‘with alarming regularity’

'Police are choosing to fatally resolve encounters by using their guns on fellow citizens'

An institute that fights for civil and religious rights, property rights and privacy, says there’s an alarming new development in police interactions with members of the public: the citizens are being shot “for standing a certain way, or moving a certain way, or holding something – anything – that police could misinterpret to be a gun, or igniting some trigger-centric fear in a police officer’s mind.”

It’s the Rutherford Institute’s latest “Constitutional Q&A” that recently addressed the latest “troubling use of excessive force.”

The Institute reported that in recent years, there have been shootings of Americans by police for “standing in a ‘shooting stance,’ holding a cell phone, behaving oddly and holding a baseball bat, opening the front door, running in an aggressive manner holding a tree branch, crawling around naked, hunching over in a defensive posture, wearing dark pants and a basketball jersey, driving while deaf, being homeless, brandishing a shoehorn, holding a garden hose, and peeing outdoors.”

Scaredy Cats with guns. Cops have to change that "fear for their lives" and "cops against civilians" mentality. They will change, or the civilians are going to do it for them.

Police need to be trained in conflict resolution, you get these punks who were picked on as a kid and are now in a position of authority

Hey!! Where are you at??
Yeah YOU --- the ones who have never done anything wrong??
Looks like a LOT of them weren't doing anything wrong, either.
You might want to re-examine that sanctimonious holier-than-thou BS.
The police robbed (if someone with a gun takes your cash or property and will kill you if you resist, that's ARMED ROBERRY, semantics be damned) American citizens of 6 BILLION DOLLARS -- last year alone!! Without a single criminal charge, or any time in front of a judge.
And now, it looks like they'll kill you for simply being afraid.

How many innocent unarmed Americans are killed by illegals every day?

REALLY?? Do WTF a police officer tells you to do. If at night turn your inside light on so they can see in the vehicle. In today's world police have to be careful. So do you. Don't argue. Don't be a hero. If you did nothing than you shouldn't have a problem. Believe me we All know some coos are FREAKING MORONS. I've seen a few in Salisbury and MSP. How they got the job isn't for their abilities. Who they know.

Probably not in our lifetime. The citizenry/sheeple are too well brainwashed and trained to obey without question and to turn in their neighbors when they do something wrong. Surely you have noticed that particular kind of mentality in some of the comments on threads associated with our system of law.

And the mocking of those who would object to simply obeying any order from a person in a costume with a piece of tin displayed as a symbol of authority and carrying weapons to ensure compliance or else.

Everyone is required to obey all lawful orders from a policeman. The trouble starts when most do not know when an illegal order is given or when their rights have been violated. It is just so much easier to do whatever they are told and not take a stand, probably safer too considering how trigger happy and fearful police have become even to the point of killing people's pets.

And no, I am not going to put on their costume and walk a mile in their shoes or any of the other nonsense some cops and their bootlickers like to repeat. Those kinds of statements just attempt to justify their actions and to shut down any ridicule or accountability of bad decisions and possibly illegal acts.

Police kill thousands each and every year. Some justified, some not. I don't know the number of household pets they kill each year. Maybe not in the thousands but certainly in the hundreds. Being charged by a vicious animal is one thing but killing a dog in its' own yard and restrained by ropes or chains is another. Even worse is when cops kill pets right in front of the family which owns it, including young children, and some who have been injured by the cops bullets when they miss or the bullet ricochets.

Cops like those should not be in the profession or any profession that requires them to be armed.

How about reading the article and objectively analyzing what IS and ISN’T written. This piece conveniently mixes statistics to make a point that simply isn’t true. The title “Unarmed Americans Killed By Cops “With Alarming Regularity” is misleading and false. If you read the article, it gives few, if any, verified statistics. In fact, here are the direct quotes at the end “His research showed a study that said in 2012 alone, people visited hospital emergency rooms almost 140,000 times as a result of encounters with police.
“In the one-year period beginning June 2015, there was an average of 136 arrest-related deaths each month,” the institute said.

If you read what they have written, you can see that they have conveniently mixed statistics. In fact, those quotes do not and cannot say that those that visited emergency rooms and/or the average of 136 arrest related deaths each month were UNARMED. Yet, that is the title of the article. They made no attempt to research the REAL numbers of those stats that verified their “sensationalistic” headline. They simply took year end stats and created their own narrative. The injuries that resulted in emergency room visits include car accidents while being pursued, transports to hospitals when people injest drugs in an attempt to get rid of evidence, people that receive cuts from running and falling while attempting to elude police, people that claim difficulty breathing or chest pain after being arrested in an attempt to avoid a jail cell and numerous other incidents. The article is attempting to paint police as violent psychopaths who routinely beat, injure and kill unarmed citizens. That is not true. The writer didn’t even remotely try to prove their point or position. It was much easier to write a sensational headline in an attempt o post “click bait” on the internet. They wrote NOTHING to support their headline. Weak writing that is nothing more than “fake news”.
