Bingo! The City needs to hire a new fire chief that is not part of this good ole boy system and do a better job of vetting the outside person. There are people out there that are much better than Simpson and Brezler.

Rick Hoppes wants $1.2 million for a fire station on the East side? Station 2 cost over $5 Million and Station 16 cost over $16 million so why does he now want a $1.2 million station. Over $21 million dollars spent on 2 fire stations in the ghetto and now he is saying he can build a brand new fire station in a new and up and coming business area for $1.2 Million? Sounds to me like that dumb a$$ and the city doesn't have their priorities straight.
Hoppes also wants a station on the North side of the City, but he doesn't list a price. How can a city as small as Salisbury Maryland justify 5 fire stations in Salisbury when they can't even justify the 3 they have. Hoppes ran off the volunteers at Station #1 and there is no longer a volunteer corporation at that station.
Here's how the Salisbury Fire Department is operating right now. They are running a full time paid fire engine crew at Station #1 and an ambulance crew at Station #1. There are no volunteers at Station #1 what so ever so don't let anyone from the SFD tell you there is.
The best thing the city can do at this point is close down Station #1 and Station #16 and run everything out of Station #2 since it is centralized. Logistically that would make the best sense.
Station #16 has a full-time fire engine crew and an ambulance crew, but only a few volunteers in there volunteer corporation.
This is how dumb Jake Day and Jack Heath are. Let's say they fund a new station on the East side. Who is going to staff it? There are no volunteers and no plans to recruit any. So what is the purpose of a new fire station? How many paid firemen are they going to have to hire to man that station? A minimum of 12 so how much more is that going to cost the taxpayers? How much is a new station on the North end? Who is going to staff that station?
Station #2 only has an ambulance crew around the clock and no paid fire crew what so ever. There are only a few sleep in volunteers at that $5 million dollar station. Below is excerps from the SFD budget. Comment as you please.

Listed for the fire department is $6.9 million, including $975,000 to replace Tanker 1, $875,000 to replace EMS units, $1.2 million for a new fire station on the east end and $1.8 million to replace trucks 1 and 2.
The fire department, which provides fire and emergency services to 57,000 people over 90 square miles, wants a new public safety building constructed on the north end of the city
The fire department is asking for a replacement truck, costing $975,000, to replace its 2001 American LaFrance Metropolitan, and a new tanker truck. The volunteer organization of the department will contribute to the cost.

Just ask Chief Grogan how lazy Hopeless was/is. The man was too lazy to walk around the fire apparatus and check the equipment like real firefighters do. He had to scoot around on an office chair on wheels. so he wouldn't have to bend over. No wonder he got to be a big fat slob?

I have to agree with you precisely! It can't be Tull, Jester, Records, Gladwell, Donaway, O'Barsky, Frampton, Twilley, Truitt, Cramer, etc. Not one single person in that fire department should be appointed from within.
Notice I didn't mention Darrin Scott's name? LMFAO. He is one dumb a$$ that got busted for harassing the HR Director for the County. Another reason Jake Day is in attack mode with Executive Culver.
You know what I heard that was really scary last night? I was listening to my portable fire radio and I heard a voice on Assistant Chief 1 that took me a few times before I realized who it was. Big Dogg was running on Assistant Chief 1 last night. WTF?? He just got promoted to captain not too long ago and that surprised me. Big Dogg hadn't been a lieutenant very long and he gets promoted to fire captain. Then a couple of weeks later he is running the city in Assistant Chief 1 as an acting assistant fire chief??
Doesn't the city or the fire department have qualifications for promotions any longer? This is a serious joke and could be dangerous. Salisbury is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Nice guy or not, he isn't qualified to be an assistant chief. This guy struggled almost as bad as Darrin Scott when it came to taking classes. It took him nearly 2 years or longer to get his Paramedic license. He had to ride all over the country to retest unil he finally got lucky and passed the test after multiple Refresher Classes and many friendly study sessions. Sad! This Fire Department is nothing but a corrupt and dishonest place of employment thanks to Rick Hoppes. Where are the African American fire officers? Where are the female fire officers? The good ole boy system. Good ole boy corruption that got worse under worse under David See, Bill Gordy and Rick Hoppes. Rick Hoppes was there to carry the torch. No need to even mention Dru Bragg. Hoppes fixed it up so that he could get his 66 2/3rd retirement package. Yep, the good ole boys.
Rick Hoppes will definitely retire with a lot of failures. Remember ladies, when you sue the City of Salisbury you can still sue Rick Hoppes after he is gone.

Yep Rick Hoppes and Jake Day, allowing the paid firemen to sleep every night and get paid isn't right and the other city employees know it and they are pissed.
How come we can't let the city police officers sleep at night until they get a call? Well Jake, what do you say about that?
Here's another idea, let them sleep at but don't pay them until they get a call. That's how they do it at Wallops Island Flight Facilities and many real fire departments.
What difference does it make where they live? Most of the career and volunteers don't live within city limits, its not a requirement. I am no fan of the SFD but please make a valid point in your argument.

Rick Hoppes' Legacy of Failure
1) Created a second paid Deputy Chief position for buddy Darrin Scott
2) Hired a 3rd secretary for the volunteers to be paid for by volunteer county fund money.
3) Got a brand new fire station built in the ghetto that wasn't needed. Had the other one demolished because he claimed it was "condemned" but had it torn down before it could be proven nothing was wrong with the building.
4) Created a fire service agreement with the county to get more funding from the county, but ended up losing a lot of money.
5) Got the city to buy 2 brand new fire engines that were only 10 years old. Fire engines can last 20 years and longer. Salisbury doesn't run enough calls to wear out a diesel fire engine.
6) Created a new Fire Marshal's position that wasn't needed. The county and city were doing it for free.
7) Created a fire inspectors position to help the new Fire Marshal that wasn't needed.
8) Created an Emergency Vehicle Technician's position that isn't needed. Again the fire department doesn't run enough calls to warrant their own mechanic. That is a wasted position that will have the EVT sitting around most of the time doing NOTHING. If major work is going to be done then a new shop with lifts will have to be built.
9) Three new ambulances purchased that weren't needed. Nothing wrong with the 3 they traded in.
10) Truck 1 and Truck 2 slated to be replaced in this budget. Nothing wrong with those two trucks. They are both 2009 Pierce fire engines/trucks. Again fire trucks last 20 years or longer.
11) A 4th, an unneeded fire station is slated to be built in this year's budget for $1.2 Million. Where is the manpower coming from? No volunteers.
12) Ran off an entire volunteer fire department with a full complement of volunteers. Leaving a station partially manned. They have to keep a partially paid crew in the station so it doesn't look vacant and to help justify its existence.
I could go on and on about this man's failures, but I think we all get the point.
What happened to Susan Phillips with Code Compliance?
This right here shows that Jake Day already has someone in mind for his next fire chief appointment. It's a very vague statement and just about anyone in the fire service can fit into that job description.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree plus ten years of experience in firefighting and/or EMS with five years at a supervisory level in a fire department, with combination service. Preference given to degree related to fire service or equivalent combination of education and experience.

He couldn't run a dog house fire . That's the fire chief that offered them 13 boys a fire truck to use when they left and offered assistance with radios and budgeting and exc . Now he is against them . He can't run his own station . SFD wouldn't bring his sick looking butt their. He wouldn't be welcomed . Station 6 might want to look out cause SFD is coming thier . Your assessment is right on the money. Why do you think that water and sewer was ran to WorWic Community College? Why do you see Water and Sewer ran over to the Royal Farms Store? Now to the Arby's? Why do you think that water and sewer was ran to Beaver Run Elementary School? And now being ran across Rt. 50 to the One Stop Job Market?

Salisbury has in this years budget to build a $1.2 Million Dollar fire station to take calls away from you. The will take over all the places mentioned including the highway and the intersections and your call volumes will dwindle to nothing. Well I would even say Francis Darling was a better Fire Chief than Hoppes/Day, Simpson, See and Brezler. Ironically Steve Brezler is working with his boy Bryan Record in getting support to the residents of Nutters Crossing. Brezzie is sending letters, but he isn't telling people that he was ran out of the Salisbury Fire Department and forced to resign. That sick Bastard Mare Tilmon appointed the volunteer hating David See. What a miserable POS he was. The whole career was spent cussing out the volunteers and trying to find blame in anything they did. We were glad when that miserable POS left.
Now the best butt kisser or a runner up to Hoppes was the one and only John Tull. John boy really knew how to suck up to each chief to get hired and then promoted. He was a pro at Rectal Snorkeling. That's where Frampton learned his skills.
It wouldn't surprise me at all. Stevenson learned early on to feed a dose of bullshit and kiss the mayors ass. He's in totally over his head with first city administrator then Day putting him in some department head job(ooopps!!) other than code compliance. Sad for Susan if this is the case. She's seen enough working under Stevenson to know how things work around him especially if he's overwhelmed with the stress/pressure of trying to play boss
Whoever Jake Day appoints as the next Fire Chief he needs to validate their fake college "degrees." A college degree is required and it needs to be from a regionally accredited college and not some for-profit online diploma mill.
Columbia Southern University is not a real college and it is not Regionally Accredited. Hoppes and the others took advantage of that fake school to get a "diploma" and the right to say they have a "college degree." The took the easiest way possible to get a "degree" because it was easy and not disciplined. If the City paid these guys in the fire department they should have required them to take their classes at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore or Salisbury University. Both have business classes and degrees.
If an online program was necessary, which it isn't, then UMUC has Fire Science programs and it is accredited. Not to mention it is a University of Maryland school.
Fake Degree = Fake Fire Officers. This is one of the biggest scandals under the watch of Rick Hoppes and it needs to be investigated and exposed.

I contacted a good friend in the know and he confirmed for a fact that Susan is no longer with the city. I also checked my friends list and she is no longer there.

I agree with you. Parsonsburg and Fruitland are playing silly games and they will get some serious jail time for making the decisions they made and it's in writing. Eric Tyler and Robin Townsend, are you ready to spend time in jail after a law suit and an investigation finds you two are responsible? It will happen.

That is correct and many of us agree. Bob Culver should put his foot down and tell the county fire stations that Station 13 will be running fire calls with them. If they refuse then cut their funding and cut their response area down. You are the boss, not them.

Jon David Black runs over the poor kid and Rick Hoppes promotes David Black to Assistant Chief in charge of all volunteers and then gives him a brand new take-home Ford Explorer to drive. I've been seeing that in Nutters quite a bit lately.
It's amazing how Tom Stevenson can actually go in to work day to day and face his fellow employees knowing they all realize how full of shit he is and the only way he got and keeps a job is his ASS kissing abilities.

Well you need to let the town council in Ocean City know of your displeasure with Jay driving a Chief's truck back and forth to Salisbury. Tell them to cut off funding to the volunteers if he continues. Same goes for the Worcester County Commissioners, let them know that you don't like what he is doing and to also cut off funding to the Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company. I'm sure some of their funding goes to pay for that truck, his salary and the gas used.
By the way, Jay gets a salary to be the president and as an Assistant Chief and obviously a take-home car and all the gas he needs. He was getting $15,000 per year to be the president and I don't recall how much for a chief officer. Can someone help us out? I thought it was against the law to get paid to volunteer?

I was told John Tull was working his butt off with his carpenter skills trying to impress the new chief and his Daddy and Mommy in Law's were keeping the Brezler's entertained like little socialites they thought they were. Then when Tull got promoted to lieutenant all the extra work he was doing ended and he never worked hard like that again.

Volunteers have been spat upon by Rick Hoppes and Jake Day and made second class citizens. If I were one, I would call out and let the paid crews fall flat on their faces as often as possible until we got recognition as true honest, trustworthy, and valuable people.
Otherwise, I would act like I was as worthless as the paid crews treated me.
Salisbury is going to hurt some body bad one day . They already ran one over and David black got away with. He was never charged by police when what he did was against the law. They brush things under the rug . Poor jorden has to live with the stuff now . This is why we can't get out over to station 2 because this place is a circus and nobody wants to be a part of it . We should just close station 2 down .I'm ashamed to say I'm still in Salisbury.

Can someone please tell us where the 120 volunteer members are?? Jake Day is already lying to the new prospect fire chief. Where the hell are they? There are absolutely NO volunteers at Station #1. There are a couple of live in volunteers at Station 2 and they scratch almost every call and have to be re-alerted. They aren't at station 16 because the few times that they a called upon when the duty crew is busy they have to be re-alerted and they never respond.
There are no 120 volunteers in Salisbury and that is for sure. Jake Day is a big liar. Jake and Rick ran them off.
Hostility to the Volunteers Part I
The Salisbury paid firemen have been hostile to the volunteers for many years. It's been going on for many years, but the volunteers have always been able to control the situation better.
It got worse when then Mare Barrie Tilghman hired an outsider by the name of Stephen K. Brezler, a reject from Baltimore County. Steve Brezler was on of 3 Batallion Chiefs that were given the ax in Baltimore County. They had to resign or get fired. They chose to resign. Many of the firefighters at the time, both career and volunteer knew people in Baltimore so they did their own investigation and they found out that Brezler wasn't a good choice. He hated volunteers and blacks. There was an incident involving a black man and a noose and if you talked around you would be more likely to find more information on this racist incident.
When Brezler was hired he started his reign of terror and the a$$ kissers came out of the woodwork. Some are still around today. Rick Hoppes, Bryan Records, John Tull and Jimmy Gladwell. Records and Tull got promoted to Lieutenant through a rigged promotional system of cheating and butt kissing. There was also a lot of butt kissing from Bryan's parents and John's Father and mother in law. Hoppes kissed Brezlers A$$ so bad that he was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain without even taking a test and others had to. David See was so much like Brezler that he leapfrogged from Captain to Deputy Chief under Brezlers. There were others, but they are the most relevant paid men that have been hostile to the volunteers in their efforts to run them out. So much happened during Brezler's Reign of Terror and the volunteers at Station 2 tried to secede and were very close except they didn't get the support of the County Volunteer Firemen's Association and the County Council. The good volunteers had to back down and they were forced to turn everything they bought, including fire trucks with County Funding over to the City. This left them is such bad shape that they wouldn't be able to go out on their own or secede again. Now let's fast forward momentarily. This is the reason that the old Station 2 fire station was torn down and the land given back to Shore Distributors. Structurally the building was sound, but with it gone the volunteers lost control and ownership. With it torn down, Rick Hoppes could say that the building was condemned and it had to be torn down. Fake News. How many solid brick buildings built in the 1930's had to be torn down because they were "condemned?" None that I know of, but people are too dumb to understand unless they are the ones that just want a new building like they built on Cypress Street. Also, Rick Hoppes gets his name on a brass plaque attached to the new building forever. Barrie and Brezler's Reign of Terror was the start of the Hostile Takeover of the volunteers in Salisbury.
When Brezler couldn't take the resistence any longer he caved in and bailed out with a resignation after 2 years. Then Barrie Tilghman appointed David See as the next fire chief. Not bad for a man that was going to get fired as a Lieutenant. The man was full of lies and hatred towards the volunteers. He constantly disrespected the city council members who questioned his corruption in the Fire Department.
While David See was a paid Captain at Station 2 he was so mean and arrogant and blamed everything on thos "stupid f***ing TICKS. He hated volunteers and ran many of them off then.
Hostility Towards the Volunteers Part III
Prior to Rick Hoppes being promoted to Deputy Chief, Gordy and See made is so difficult to be one of the good leaders in the fire department that Deputy Chief Tim Keenan had enough and couldn't take it any longer and resigned.
David See, Bill Gordy and Rick Hoppes changed the SOP's and much of the criteria making it extremely difficult to be a volunteer in Salisbury. The volunteer were forced to do way more training and certifications than any volunteer member in Wicomico County. To those who didn't comply to these new standards the Nazi Leadership went to homes and places of employment and handed the "non-compliant" volunteers their pink slips, including Delegate Norman Conway. These self imposed standards newly created by the SFD, See, Gordy, Hoppes, Bragg, Records, Tull, Gladwell, et. al. Some are still members of this fire department and the cause of running out the vollies in the City.
David See retires not long after he got beat up by his wifes son after running his mouth to him. Short Stuff See wasn't the Bad A$$ he thought he was and showed up to work with a busted lip, nose and forehead. He told everyone he slipped and hit his head on the coffee table at home.
With See's retirement Hoppes was promoted to acting Fire Chief during a nationwide search for a new chief. Mare Ireton didn't want Hoppes so he was turned down on 3 separate interviews processes that didn't work out. Then comes along Jeff Simpson, an outsider with minimal experience from Virginia. Simpson's Reign of Terror caused many career and volunteers to leave as well. The best part of Simpsons Reign of Terror was how he "demoted" Hoppes back to a Deputy Chief of Administration and promoted John Tull to Senior Assistant Chief of Operations. There is no such position in the department, but it was Simpson's way to make John Tull more superior than Hoppes which most employees enjoyed. Hoppes has never been liked in the Salisbury Fire Department.
Fast forward to 2017. Rick Hoppes and Jake Day work tirelessly to run off as many volunteers as then can from Station 1. The volunteers had been manning the station on nights and weekends and Hoppes didn't like that. For the past 2 years Hoppes refused to meet with the Station 1 volunteers and Mare Jake Day would listen to them either. Jake Day told them to "Follow Chief Hoppes' SOP's or get out." After the Station 1 Volunteers gave their Ultimatum to the City beginning several months later Hoppes and Jake Day authorized locking them out of the firehouse. Bryan Records responded to the fire station with lights and sirens blaring and ordered them out of the building and called the police. Since then childish comments from the paid firemen have been showing up on this blog.
So there you have it, a short history of how the paid firemen ran off the volunteers, then lies and says they have 160 volunteer firemen, but they refuse to show up. This is designed to keep hiring more paid firemen. It's my understanding that Jake Day has approved 4 new paid firemen in the upcoming July 1, 2018, budget.
The Volunteers are not welcome at Station 2. There is a lot that goes on "behind the scenes" basically, They are being ran out. Plain and simple, there is no coming back from this and the higher up's know this and instead of helping the problem they let them fail and make it ten times harder than it needs to be to be a volunteer.
The chief threatened to require everyone go to "hours" if they did not come up with a policy on their own he would enforce one, so when the volunteers felt they had no choice in the matter, they implemented station 16's volunteer policy and then the Fire chief and all the high ups state "They did not agree with the hours program, however you all decided on this" They were forced to do this and the higher ups are claiming they do not agree with it when they indeed enforced it behind the scenes.
Also people claim there is a "lack of leadership" at station 2.....Well here's an idea, there are only 3 line officers (1 of which is out on medical) and they can't do everything. People have to put forth the effort to want to be there and if they do not then they need to resign. Plain and simple.
They also need to address the bullying that goes on in that building and the back stabbing and talking about people behind their back, or purposely looking for ways to cause issues for certain people just because one or two individuals do not like certain members. It's allowed to happen so how do you expect the bullies to stop when they are allowed to do it?!?!?
The chief requires "in house staffing" took away their pagers alerting for calls unless it is a fire. Whats the point in that? That is not what a volunteer is. Yes I know times are changing but you can't require people to do "in house staffing" only and expect them to show up when it's never been that way. You want free employees is what you want.
The issues are not just that volunteers do not show up, its A LOT of issues on ALL sides that are not addressed.
I have no horse in this race but as an outsider looking on Jake Day, Richard Hoppes, Brian records etc screwed up the fire service in Salisbury. This used to be a tight knit group and yes it was mostly volunteers. They used to enjoy life hang out together have a good time. Now its nothing but backstabbing cut throat garbage.
It is pathetic when firemen sided with someone like Jake Day to fulfill his political agenda going against other volunteer firefighters and what's good for them as well. There was once a code in fraternities like this, solidarity and having each others back not this feces Salisbury calls its fire Dept. If I were a volunteer firefighter in Salisbury I wouldn't want to gave to put my trust in putting my life on the line with the likes of Hoppes, Tull, Scott, Records, Gladwell, etc. As for Hoppes step away from the table once in awhile its a good thing you stuck your head up Days ass because you'd have a coronary trying to physically fight a fire.

Rick Hoppes has never fought fire because he is a coward. He left the volunteers at Station 2 after Francis Darling hired him and he hated the volunteers ever since, especially the volunteers in the surround departments like Delmar, Fruitland, Hebron and Parsonsburg. Every time he had to ride the engine he sucked up to the chief so that he could get detailed doing office work.
Rick Hoppes is the only person in the history of the Salisbury Fire Department that went through the ranks without ever sitting for a test. He got good at sharpening his ass kissing skills with Ireton and Day. Too bad we don't have any intelligent people on the City Council like Debbie Campbell, Terry Cohen and Tim Spies. They saw through his lame ass.
Someone mentioned Darrin Scott. He is an embarrassment to the City of Salisbury but Fat A$$ Hoppes still promoted Scott right up to the high rank of Deputy Chief even though Darrin Scott didn't even sit for a promotional exam for the position. Hoppes gave Darryn the duty to handle all promotional exams in the department so that they could control who they wanted to be promoted. When one of the Hoppes clicks buddies didn't do well on the exam he got promoted anyway and the ones that scored highly on the promotional exam was told they didn't do well so they could promote who they wanted. Not only that, no one ever gets to see what their scores are. Wink, Wink.
Hoppes is making sure his little buddy Darryn Scott is getting a new Ford Explorer to drive to a friends driveway and Delaware to sleep in a camper in the driveway. Since he lost his home. That's right Darryn got kicked to the curb by his ex because his package wasn't working so she had to sample some of the athletic trainer at the gym. Poor Darryn.
Darryn is so dumb that is finally took him six times to pass the realtor licensing exam and then he gave that up because he was a failure at that as well. Darryn is so Dumb but yet he is the 3rd ranking fire officer in the Salisbury Fire Department thanks to his buddy Rick Hoppes. His stupidity was pointed out numerous times by the owner of this blog who posted pictures with Darryn right up to the fire scene with absolutely no protective fire gear on which is against SFD Policy. Darrin didn't get written up or lose pay either, but many others in the Salisbury Fire Department have.
It would be nice to have an audit done to see the discrepancies in discipline within the racist Salisbury Fire Department.

John Tull lives in the County in Heather Glen.
Jay Jester lives in Ocean City.
Rob Frampton lives in Easton and I doubt he would move back to Salisbury. However, I can see Jake Day giving him the job anyway even though it's in the Charter. I can't see how Jake can justify giving him a City-owned vehicle and allowing him to drive that back and forth and also free gas on the taxpayers dime.
Hopefully the next fire chief will have the balls to make all the officers re-apply for their jobs. Then demote Bryan Records, Jimmy Gladwell, Jay Jester and a few others.
Jay Jester got charged with DUI and then he got a free vacation at the tax payers expense to the Fire Department Instructors Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana where he has been going for many years non-stop. Guess who approved that? Rick Hoppes and Jeff Simpson! They both went to court for Jay Jester and spoke on his behalf. Jay Jester got off but he had to blow in a straw to start his car. This guy is the most hated clown in the Salisbury Fire Department. He volunteers in Ocean City and hates the paid paramedic firefighters and then works in Salisbury and hates the volunteers in Salisbury. He went from firefighter to lieutenant, to captain to acting assistant chief in Salisbury. Guess who promoted him? Rick Hoppes and Jeff Simpson.
Several years ago the mayor and council approved several paramedic positions because they is a need for paramedics. Well guess what? They hired Zack Bridges as a firefighter, but he wasn't a paramedic. He was a good Delmar buddy of none other than Darrin Scott. So they let Zach Bridges get hired in one of those paramedic slots because he was going to go to paramedic school and get his paramedic. The City of Salisbury tax payers paid for Zach Bridges to become a paramedic while enrolled in paramedic school and collecting a firemen salary. While in paramedic school he was able to get off work and they paid someone overtime to fill his slot. This went on for a while and they still hired him even though he was required to become a paramedic. He never became a paramedic and they lost that paramedic slot which means they were down a paramedic. Not only did the Salisbury tax payers pay for him to attend paramedic school they wasted tax dollars on for overtime while he was supposed to be paying him to become a paramedic. Not only did they pay someone overtime to work for Zack Bridges while he was in college, they paid Zack Bridges overtime when he had to attend paramedic school when his shift wasn't working. Not only did Salisbury lose a paramedic position Zach Bridges got promoted to Acting Lieutenant.
Then comes along another Delmar buddy of guess who?? That's right, Darrin Scott got the Salisbury Fire Department to hire another Delmar Buddy to fill one of the paramedic positions. Guess what again? Darrin Scott hired Brooks Morrison to fill one of those paramedic slots and again Brooks wasn't a paramedic. He was just a firefighter EMT. So the same thing, the city paid for Brooks Morrison to go to paramedic school, got off without having to use vacation time to attend paramedic school and filled his slot with overtime. When Brooks had to go to class on his time off they paid him overtime. So, this went on for a while until Brook Morrison failed out of paramedic school and the tax payers lost all that paramedic school tuition and overtime. Now the city were down 2 paramedics because those paramedic positions were filled with firefighters and not paramedics. Rick Hoppes, Darrin Scott and David See screwed the city out of 2 desperately needed paramedic positions and thousands of tax dollars in tuition and overtime. Not only did the city lose all that money and the 2 paramedic positions, Zack Bridges and Brooks Morrison didn't have to pay the city back.
So now Brooks Morrison failed out of paramedic school, screwed the city out of a paramedic position and screwed the city out of thousands of dollars. After all that Brooks Morrison got promoted to acting Lieutenant and then promoted to full Lieutenant. Now he has been promoted to a Fire Captain.
So what came out of Delmar and the good ole boy system? David See, Darrin Scott, Zack Bridges and Brooks Morrison. Rick Hoppes allowed this to continue to happen. Nothing but trash!

What I'd like to understand is why with the EMS calls outnumbering the fire calls 3:1, does the SFD justify staffing 2 full-time capital fire pieces, 3 during the regular business week hours, while only staffing 3 ambulances at any given time. Something that should be researched is how many times a county EMS unit gets alerted each year to run a call into the SFD's first due. Considering it happens nearly every single day, sometimes multiple times per day, it's got to be upwards of 300-500 times per year. This isn't the type of leadership Salisbury deserves.

Man, would it be plagiarism if I took notes here and wrote a book titled "Damned Disgruntled Department"? It would be about corruption, dysfunction, etc. So much for brotherhood. I'm just joking but do find it very sad. I did see one comment stating it was once a great outfit where the guys would hang out together. I certainly didn't have the time or interest to read but only a few. Wow! I thought I had it bad on my job.
10:!1, it seems the setup in Ocean City is always a little bit murkey when it comes to funding for the volunteers vs the career. In spite of some of the questionable leadership practices it seems that the department does a great job serving the community. It's a shame Jester drive that truck to his full-time job with Salisbury.
Salisbury Station 1 is being dispatched to Fruitland because they just scratched on 2 alerts for an odor of gas in a residence.
And now thanks to the stupidity of Robin Townsend and some of it's silly members the taxpayers of Wicomico County has to pay for that fire engine response. Come on Bob Culver get some balls and demand that the Station 13 volunteers run automatic mutual aid for their surrounding fire departments.
Engine 16 with the famous James Lloyd Jester, who hates volunteers, is responding to cover that call for the Fruitland Volunteer Fire Company.
In the meantime, I would suggest that you deduct payment from Fruitland and Parsonsburgs fire grants from the County. Every dispatch whether Salisbury is canceled or not is being charged to the County because of stupid politics. I bet they will change their tune then.

Even though these guys have done everything asked and required by the state and county. Wtf is wrong with these council people, make statements and go back on them, it's time to drain the swamp in the county council. More people need to run for office against the liars . I won't name them, . It's all about votes and politics to little people like them , to hell with public safety.

Exactly. Firefighters don’t work for the citizens. They work for the insurance companies. That is why insurance companies have better rates the closer you live to a fire department. They want the firefighters to put the fire out and limit how much they have to pay out on an insurance claim. If my house catches on fire, I want it to burn to the ground. It is insured for more than it is worth (at the behest of the insurance company) and I’d rather not give them options on HOW I rebuild. I pay exorbitant insurance rates. I want to cash in if I have the opportunity. Firefighters are there to protect insurance companies. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Stevenson your leadership and managerial skills suck. After reading the city of Salisbury website and seeing your so called responsibilities as "director" of field operations you've failed miserably. Yge city is riddled with trash and debris all over the streets. This past winters snow removal was non existent. Why don't you do yourself and the city a favor and go back and get your ruler out measuring peoples grass length this summer. ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS
I'm one that is a firm believer in promoting within, but when you have such a f***ed up fire department with a history of racism, gender bias and discrimination, out of control spending, hatefulness and spite towards volunteers, sarcasm towards people you need to respect then it's time to hire outside the department. It's time to find someone to change that culture. It's time to get a chief that doesn't fall for the brown nosing of the Tull's and the Framptons. It's time to change that culture.
I just saw a new campaign to get more volunteers, but it's too late. It's going to take a lot more than that video. The city needs a volunteer that is going to get rid of the ilk of Cherry Cheeks Townsend. Time to hire a new chief.
Everything is based on when the equipment gets out the door. The paid staff is not that fast. Times look really good when you mark up from the bunk. I challenge anyone to prove that statement wrong. Another blemish in Rick Hoppes' legacy is he is one of the biggest racists in the fire service. How many ranking black people are there in the Salisbury Fire Department? Don't say David Cox because we will take that somewhere else that you don't want to hear.
How many females has Rick Hoppes promoted? None! Even his best buddy Dru Bragg's girlfriend now wife had to leave that shithole because she couldn't take it anymore.
