Microsoft said in a support blog that it was working with AMD to resolve the issues and would resume Windows operating system software updates to affected AMD devices via its Windows Update process as soon as possible.
AMD shares dipped 1.3 percent in pre-market U.S. trading. Last week the stock rose nearly 20 percent as investors speculated AMD could wrest market share from Intel, whose chips are exposed to risks from possible Meltdown and Spectre attacks.
"To prevent AMD customers from getting into an unbootable state, Microsoft will temporarily pause sending the following Windows operating system updates to devices with impacted AMD processors at this time," Microsoft said in its statement.

This is just Microsoft doing what is called "Planned Obsolescence". They have in the past released free versions of windows 10, whether you wanted it or not. When that didn't work they notified companies like Dell that they would not be selling windows 7 after September of this year. Companies that are comfortable with windows 7 are being wedged into windows 10, yet there are constant updates and these updates break things like printer drivers and video card support. Some IT professionals have gone the route of spending money to put computers aside for updates first.. just to see if they break before allowing the rest of the company to update. Professional versions of the Operating System includes the windows store and the Cortana voice assistant, trying to sell games and programs to users and forcing the use of Cortana for all the search features on the computer.
