Md. Gov. Hogan slams regional schools, calls for inspector general

WASHINGTON — Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan criticized the operation of school systems from Baltimore City to Washington County as he announced he wants to create the office of Education Inspector General.

At the same time, Hogan announced $2.5 million in emergency aid to Baltimore City schools for repairs to the school system’s buildings. Failing boilers left students and teachers bundling up in coats, hats and gloves in an effort to keep warm and eventually forced the closure of the school system while maintenance crews scrambled to complete repairs.

Hogan also said he’d add another $11 million for Baltimore City schools. “Let me be clear,” he said: “This is not to reward the people responsible who have failed — this funding is literally about saving kids from freezing in winter.”

At his Monday morning news conference, Hogan complained about legislation passed in the last General Assembly session and declared “This isn’t about politics. This is about our children and their future.”

Why do we need another independent advisory board on education. We already have the Governor's Education Advisory Board. Here's the problem. It is totally made up of high ranking teachers union officials. No one single member of the PTA. Not one single community representative. No currant or retired education administrators. The answer is right under your nose Governor Hogan.

Just four years ago, O'Malley and the Democrats gave BC Schools a slush fund of $1.5 billion...so they could "build" 14 new schools. They said that was the problem with their failing education system. This money was to be managed by the same folks who manage the Stadium Authority.

Money is not their problem. Flawed, inept, and corrupt leaders who behave arrogantly, and ignorantly are the issue.

Our governor is quickly becoming an enabling parent or a reckless 30 year old who refuses to grown up and take responsibility. The only action that would be justified under these circumstances is a complete takeover of their schools...quite frankly, their government. They have shown that they cannot govern, cannot protect their people, cannot educate their young, and cannot keep a budget.

It takes political courage to reach out and touch a problem such as this because once you do, you own it. Therefore, we will simply pander, grumble, and keep doing what others have done before...throw good money after bad.

Crickets from our shore legislators...crickets!!!

Baltimore's mayor and 90% of the city council are all AA's.
72% of the teachers are black.
68% of the police officers are black.
54% of the population is on welfare.
Dollars spent of each student is FOUR time the state average for other students.
If the above mentioned black leaders in Baltimore aren't even able to provide heat for the students, where is the money going?
They can't even run Baltimore but want to run the nation. May the good Lord help us.
