These closings are absurd. It's been 4 days without any snow. WTF?
If you keep posting notices in Spanish, some of these shorebillies might learn a few words assuming they can read the English version.
Village of Tony Tank Creek streets are a disaster. Almost wrecked my vehicle this evening driving five miles an hour on all the ruts and slush! So much for paying out almost $4000.00 a year for county and city taxes!
The plow came through once that I know of and on my street, did not even have the blade down! Is there not such a thing as SALT or something to treat the streets or plow during the storm even during the night to keep ahead of this? I know, I know, its been too cold to do anything....at least that is what the higher power officials tell me!
Move out the city and you would see those taxes drop by at least 75% and no water and sewer in the county; your stupid decision..
Really appears we are getting ready for another boston Tea Party!!Maryland is the prime state for taxation without representation. I pay for my kid to play football, pay water and sewage, trash pick up, Property taxes, city taxes, state taxes, sales tax, but yet as far as i can see i get nothing i need.
U get out much?
1 bus crash or 1 death of a student and all would ask for heads to roll.
This IS better safe than sorry. Live with the minor inconvenience. Make your kids read a book or better yet clean the house, bathroom or bedroom!

There were no businesses closed today, no business closed tomorrow. All the employees and the parents drove to work so why can't the kids go to school?
This is what the Wicomico School Board sent out to everyone. "School status for Tues Jan 9: Due to continued poor condition of roads and walkways around our county, Wicomico Schools will be closed Tuesday, Jan. 9. There will be a 2-hour delay for Central Office/12-month/220-day staff. Please be careful out there!"

Well if there is a 2 hour delay for the "Central Office/12-month/220-day staff" and they have to drive in the snow then how do they justify allowing the teachers to stay home. Everyone else in Wicomico County can drive to work or school then why can't the parents drop their kids off and why can't the school buses drive the kids to the schools. This is absolute Bull Sh!t.

Hmmm... Something tells me you are being dishonest about this statement. Bragging about paying taxes? Everyone knows that anyone who pays City Taxes pays nearly the same amount in County taxes.
One of the most important issues the County and City Council members should work on is dissolving the City of Salisbury charter. It doesn't make sense that the City of Salisbury is duplicating services when the County of Wicomico is providing the same services.
Who would like to get that petition started so that is can be put on the ballot for the next election.
The problem is the city and county have no clue how to plow correctly. I plowed roads for years and New York and all roads were clear hours after the last snow flake had fallen. I have seen a passenger in the large plow trucks that's a waste of man power. We have a pick up or mason dump attached to every large plow truck. There job was to push corners, plow small roads and deadend roads. This keeps the larger trucks driving straight pushing snow now doing 5 point turns. We also mixed sand with our salt. Sand is much cheaper than salt so it helps to stretch your product. Sand also helps drivers get traction on slippery roads. I have been by Salisbury city yard and have seen a lot of deasel pick up trucks and mason dumps without plows, there no reason for this all trucks should be pushing snow. And for the waste of time eastern shore drive takes get two trucks with a front plow and side plow and get the roads down in half the time. Think it's time for Tom Stevenson and whoever the county roads super is to take a field trip up north and learn something
Afraid not 807. You are the one lacking an inderstanding on thos one. Happy to teach you when your arrogance is under control.
Dear 3:42 - the answer to you question lies in an unfortunate accident in a neighboring country where a student was killed during a bus accident in the fog. Lower shore county schools have been exceptionally cautious since then, and given the conditions of many of the back roads in the county there is no reason to take the risk. While you and others may not care for these facts, they are indeed the reason for an over abundance of caution.

Roads department is hiring... go fill out an application.
I bet everyone would feel different if your child were on a bus down a backroad filled with ice and something happened. Everyone can complain and moan but the reality is the safety of those children commuting via a bus/car on a backroad that hasn't been touched is the main concern. The roads were pure ice today. I watched a slide off the road and a friend was nearly in head on collision but other drive flew off road into trees. We can't control other drivers.
roads dept has to be hiring, apparently nobody is working there now
