If Only Local Liberal Leaders Used Their Brains

We all saw how Mayor Jake Day instantly came forward with the threat of a fine if you didn't have your sidewalks cleared by 3 PM the following day.

As tight as money is here on the Shore and if I were your leader, I'd create a list of names of people interested in working as sub contractors willing to make a specific amount of money to clear residential sidewalks any time we have a snow storm.

This rate would be reasonable enough for residents to afford and leaves absolutely NO EXCUSE as to why you can't have it cleared in time, SINCE CITY OFFICIALS SEEM TO THINK ITS SUCH AN IMPORTANT THING TO HAVE DONE.

For those who simply want to abuse this BS law anyway, well, they'll get what they deserve because they didn't get out to vote or run for office. Think of all those wives out there sick and tired of their man sitting on their rear end making excuses as to why they're broke or can't find work. It's a win/win all around. And don't think for a second that a large group of determined women wouldn't get on the list, because they would.

What say you now Mayor Day and City Council. Put your money where your mouth is, since you think it's so damn important to have your sidewalks cleared.

Plenty of homeless around town asking for money on street corners. Give them a snow shovel. Plenty of inmates in Jail that could be shoveling

Good idea.

Isn't it a requirement for high school student to volunteer somewhere in order to graduate?

Doesn't SU have a volunteer program? They come and clean up my neighbors yard in the fall - for free.

Where are they? Why are't the schools facilitating this?

No Joe, they don't get it. Never have, never will. Children never listen.

Don't touch that hot stove Jake, what does he do? OF COURSE HE TOUCHES IT.

Bad investment there Jake, you should get backers to help. What does he do? Goes it alone, makes a bad investment and EVERYONE pays!

Waste of time providing logical and sound ideas Joe. Psst - may want to turn your attention to OC CITY HALL! Bunch of non-listeners there too!!!

If you signed up with the city to clean sidewalks they would charge you for a business license and 2 or 3 permits.

Maybe the city should use the equipment they bought to clean sides on residential sidewalks. After all it was the people that pay taxes that paid for that equipment.

9:36 - And ask for proof of liability insurance.

Where are any written citations? THEY DON'T EXIST....stop the whining and clean your damn sidewalks, it ain't that difficult.

We cleared our drive ( no sidewalk...) only to have the city truck come by AGAIN and dump snow BACK INTO IT. It was a very wet / heavy snow and very difficult for me to shovel.
It's stupid anyhow to shovel sidewalks, a man was walking in the street this am on my way to work, walking right by sidewalks that had been cleared. Everyone on the road had to move out of his way because he had to walk in the street! Besides that, the outer lanes in the road are only 3/4 way cleared, can't drive a car in that with 3' of snow on the side.
And ANOTHER THING, yes, I tried to put my trash & recycling out at the end of my drive this am, but, there's no where to put it due to the city dumping snow all over the drive and gutter and I'm not shoveling it again.

Dumb question: nobody WALKS in my neighborhood so what's the big rush to clean off sidewalks?

If you all would read this, https://salisbury.md/departments/fieldoperations/services/snow-removal

It says at the bottom, the city responsibility is to remove snow from sidewalks on city property, yet I don't see them doing any of that!!!! while they fine you...

OH and get this, it says in their own SBY ordnance you have 24 hours after snow fall to have it removed, so if you get fined before that amount of time, please sue the city...

Am I the only one missing selfie pics of boy mare pitching in to help clear older folks, etc. sidewalks?

Joe,

There's a problem. OSHA (MOSHA in Maryland) requires safe working conditions, so if the sidewalk is not cleared, you could be fined for hiring someone to clear it and if they were injured, it could be more than a fine.

Let's hope that Trump ends such nonsense and regulatory overreach.

city should be super rich if they handed fines out to everyone.

I can't wait until the hundreds receiving citations descend on District Court. How do you say not guilty????

Using prisoners is the best idea yet.

A little ditty for the Folk Festival... How many inches of snow must fall, before the plows start to go? And how many taxpayers will get stuck, before the city goes to work? The answer my friend, is Jake don't give a damn, the answer is Jake don't give a damn.

Why do you keep calling him Mayor? He wouldn't make a pimple on a real elected officials ass!
