Aint that the truth. I remember back in the 70's (I'm not THAT old yet) patiently waiting for the snow to come. The money I'd make for 2, 3 or 4 days shoveling, would last the entire winter into spring Friday nights either eating pizza, burgers, or both - never ever getting into trouble! (psst, tax FREE too!)
I'd make money, take that money and spend it within the local economy and everyone (shoveled out homeowner, me and the local merchant) was very happy.
Those were the days...taking a 2nd look that pic looks mighty familiar!!!!!
Back then most kid's didn't have extra and walked or rode a bike everywhere. I remember having to walk across town to hangout with my best friend for the day, He would meet half way and walk the rest of the way together the whole time we discussed making money and buying a car when we turned 16 and never walking anywhere again...LOL We did almost any job for a few bucks and we both got cars.
We found 2 people 2 shovel our drive. One guy was 71 years old, the other 45. Great job, and price. They both live on our street and were clearing their own drives. We offered them the money. First they said no, but then said what the heck, they had nothing else to do. Not a Kid around to shovel.
In my neighborhood before it became a policy under HOA we would help our neighbors. Didn't matter what skin color. We helped each other - no complaints
Lol before the Xbox it was the tv, before the tv it was the newspaper. My point, old farts will always complain about the next generation. Don't mind sucking down our social security though do you?
I kept hoping a teenager would come along and we would have been glad to have paid him to shovel our driveway; however, we had a couple of wonderful neighbors who came along on Saturday, one with a snowblower and the other with a tractor and they got the job done and refused to be paid.
Older people with health issues don't need to be out in temps in the teens shoveling snow. A lot of them now don't have relatives close by who can help them. The kids in the neighborhood must not care about them and leave them on their own to have a heart attack.
Once again let me explain this to you. You work. Pay social security. You pay Medicare. You retire. you collect very little social security. You still pay Medicare quarterly. Because medicare covers very little you pay for supplemental insurance. Tell me after 40 years working how am I suck down social security. What is sucking down social security is young people on SSI (you do know what that stands for right). Also Mr Obama sucked down social security for his political agenda - so you should get off your high horse and pay attention to what goes on around you. Infact I just got my medicare premium bill for 176.00 and I am retired. What have you done for your retirement.

made a lot of money as a kid that way
I didn't see one single kid out playing in the snow at any point this weekend. At 41, I still love playing in the snow.
Ain't this the truth. Kids are lazy nowadays.

My teen son was out shoveling. He prays for big snows. It's how he earns money after mowing season.

Your generation takes pit more than it put in, "ding-dong." Now off you go to shuffleboard...
