We just had a BLIZZARD dump 12" of snow on us in freezing temperatures with 30+mph winds, that didn't stop until dark today.
Some of us HAVE to work tomorrow and you are going to "inspect" my sidewalk for infractions tomorrow afternoon?

Should I get up at 5 AM when it is 10 degrees out and all of this snow has already FROZEN into ice and try and shovel my walk?

When salisbury’s roads are plowed down to the surface then he can have an opinion about sidewalks. If all city properties are plowed or shoveled then he can have an opinion! Until then with the conditions and he temps he needs to keep his Call of Duty playing a$$ shut!
My understanding is that the homeowner is responsible for the sidewalk that runs from their front door to the sidewalk that runs parallel to the street only. I own a property that had a sidewalk crumble next to the street and the city paid to replace it, not me. It took them 3 years to do it, but I was never even threatened with a fine or citation. So I think Jake might be misleading people regarding ownership of "sidewalks". Can anyone clarify?

Eh, it's the law, but my guess is they won't actually enforce it. Since we own our sidewalks - the city doesnt - I know i'll be clearing mine. Don't want to get sued by some lawsuit-happy liberal skipping down my street. I'm surethey're just trying to cover their butts.

We live in the county and my husband went out today to try to get some of the piles away from our vehicles and the snow was drifting just as fast as he was shoveling. Then where the snow plows are trying to clear the roads at the front of everyones driveway is at least a four foot high frozen block of snow and ice they have left to be removed by the homeowner just to get on the frozen roads.
I could easily get my truck in and out yesterday until my road was plowed, but not anymore. there's a 4' tall glacier at the end of my driveway now. I don't know when i'll be able to get out. who do I sue?

We got a warning once. It rained for 10 days straight and the idiot from code and compliance went around and gave everyone a warning for having grass in their sidewalk cracks.
She did this while it was still raining.
The warning/citation gets plastered on your front door and mailed to the homeowner.
The landlord called and laughed at the absurdity of it because we keep the place well maintained.
There are 12 homes on our block and 7 got the warning.
We were all quite mad because we had a neighbor that for 2 years was running and landfill in his back yard and they did nothing about it until we posted pictures on sbynews.

Several of my neighbors are in their 70's and on fixed incomes so there isn't a lot of money to pay someone to do it. 2 Neighbors are disabled. Kids in the neighborhood wanted $30 to shovel 50 feet of sidewalk. They don't even volunteer to help their neighbors. Someone taught them that its all about money.
Jake obviously doesn't have the brain cells necessary to evaluate an extreme event and formulate a reasonable solution that doesn't place a large segment of his population at risk

Send the MAYOR medical bills for any falls or even heart issues due to his mandate in medically proven unsafe temps to shovel and clear sidewalks. It is almost impossible to find someone to shovel snow for residents like 30 years ago. I am 50 and as a kid, would knock on neighbors doors and shovel with them GLADLY paying me. We now live in a gamer/couch potato society where kids don't even go out in this.
I would put a sign in my yard close to the sidewalk with this notice. Will pay someone to clean my sidewalk. This would show intent. You may still get the fine, but if you are old (like me) plead your case to the city.

If the sidewalk is mine then I don’t want anyone walking on it. I will put up no trespassing signs and barriers preventing people from using it since it’s mine. And since the side walk belongs to me I would like the city to come remove their water meter. It interferes with the aesthetics of my sidewalk.

You don’t technically own your sidewalk, that’s the point. If they want to widen the road do you think they’ll ask your permission to move the sidewalk further onto your property? Heck, you don’t even technically own the land your house is built on. Look up legal land ownership and eminent domain.

It's your business what you do on your own property period. The law is stupid. If you don't want to shovel your walk then you shouldn't be forced to do it by the government. It's your property. You pay taxes on it. The hell with them. I'd pile more snow on my sidewalk , let them ticket me, and I'd pay it all in pennies. Idiots. It's funny they can't get roads clear which leads to accidents which is our fault but they order us to clear our sidewalks.
