California proposal: No kids? Then don't pay school taxes

A California man has proposed a ballot measure to exempt residents who don’t have kids in state public schools from paying the taxes to fund them.

The “California Education Tax Relief Act,” proposed by Lee Olson of Huntington Beach, would allow California residents with no children in the public school system to avoid paying taxes and fees designated for state school funding, KTVU reports.

Last week, the state Attorney General’s Office gave approval for circulation of the initiative, allowing proponents to start collecting the signatures necessary to get a spot on the November 2018 ballot.

This will start a slippery slope. Will ALL voters get to opt out for things they don't want to pay for?
Abortions?
National Public Radio?
Football Stadiums?

I'm for that here too.

The problem with the idea is, the people who pay the taxes are having fewer or no children at all. Other than the Mormons, the largest families are mostly from the impoverished parts of the population. Unfortunately, this trend also goes for intelligence too.

You don't get it sir. You have to pay for 'undocumented' kids

How about a proposed ballot that Republicans states don't have to pay for Democrat states ?

Down in Georgia, unsure if it is the entire state or just the county my Father lived in, all residents over a certain age weren't taxed for the public schools. As it was likely they weren't using the services. Lowered his property taxes by a few hundred dollars a year. I'm all for a lá carte government.

I have complained about this one for decades. No kids, yet my money has been wasted in Wicomico county the whole time.

So what would a large apartment complex do regarding tenants who have or don't have kids?
Would the non-kid apartment be excluded from the property taxes the apartment owner pays, thus reducing the rent for the childless renters?

Though this isn't directly related, anyone have any thoughts on welfare recipients having federal and state taxes taken out of their checks? It seems only fair to let them see what it is like for those of us who don't take home our entire weekly earnings due to taxes and other deductions.

The gay lobby pushed that one through.

I agree. I've never had any kids. Yet most of my property taxes go to "schools." And why, so we can teach a kindergarten age child that they can be any gender they want to be, any race they want to be, and the parent's approval is not needed nor will the parent ever hear about it.

That is some of the dumbest sh*t I've ever heard and my tax dollars pay for this. What happens when little Sally goes to school and decides she wants to be a boy because boys can do more than girls. (I was told that all my life, as my brothers were allowed to do stuff that I was never allowed to do as a girl.) So little Sally go through 5 years of school being little Tommy. Then in about 6th grade, or when puberty hits, little Tommy decides she really does like boys so now she wants to go back to being little Sally. Can you imagine the bullying that little Sally/Tommy is going to go through because of this dumb sh*t.

I cannot believe some of the stuff that they are teaching these days, such as the sex education being taught in Cambridge, with the booklet explaining anal sex and how to do it and why you would want to-to an 11-year-old.

I would love to opt out of paying taxes to schools, not only because I've never had kids, but also because of the horrendous teaching going on.
