There was another fatal motorcycle collision in Somerset County last night as well. Not the way to kick of Bike Week.

It's no surprise I have had motorcycles pull out in front of me more than once since the start of this cycle week. They are worst than them fools in the dump duck centry event coming on the 22nd expect more fatal accidents this weekend as things get ramped up.

7:34 AM even better is when they block traffic by taking up 2 lanes and don't get out of the way I have flipped off a few over the years.

maybe you're doing something wrong

I worked around them all day they have no respect for traffic laws.

Yeah, I was in the right lane, came up on a woman going less than the speed limit texting. I moved to the left lane, passed her and she flipped me off. Guess the exhaust on my bike scared her!

See, we have problems with cars too - Mr/Ms Texters!

I'm pretty sure that one Wednesday night in Somerset County had nothing to do with Bike Week. First, Bike Week isn't in Somerset County and second, Bike Week didn't start until Thursday.

Not to mention the operator of the Somerset County fatality was 78 years old riding a Jap Bike.

You don't own the road in front of you. Everybody has to "pull out in front" of somebody else, as there are vehicles in sight when most people have to pull out. Sounds like you always want a motorcycle to wait for you to go by, no matter how safe it is for them to cross the highway. Just because you are driving a "tank" compared to a motor cycle, doesn't mean you have to lack any respect to them. They have every right to share the highway with everyone else, and everyone else should respect that right. The comment "Its no surprise..." shows your contempt for them. Share the road and get off your high horse.

Accidents happen with ALL vehicles. Didn't the navy just have a couple?

I'm pretty sure you don't know anything about what you're talking about. First, Bike week (week, get it?) doesn't just start on the event date. Bikes have to get to the event, and they come from near and far away; some taking days to get here, and then to get back home.

Second, they don't come to the event to park their bikes. They come here to RIDE. Bikers love to RIDE. Bike week events are ways for them to ride on scenic back roads in areas of the country that are new to them. The event location is just a central location for them to branch out and enjoy local roads. They re-gather at that central location at night for food, camaraderie, and sleep. This event is an economic boon for both OC, and everyone else within a daily ride distance of the central event location. The bikes will be EVERYWHERE on the shore during this event. It's why they are here...TO RIDE, not sit on the beach.

Please share the road and look out for them. Realize that they are in unfamiliar territory and enjoying the rides on their powerful machines, along with the camaraderie of their follow bike riders. It's just a week. Everybody should give them some respect, share the road with them, and try not to turn the bikers vacations into a nightmare for them.

So answer this Mr cycle rider, why do you all hug the center line ?

Can you armchair motorcyclist put your kickstands down long enough to have compassion that someone has died and another is severely injured. I've been riding for several years. I've made my fair share of mistakes and I've had to compensate quickly for someone else's mistake. We all make them. I don't believe any of us here walk on water. So before we start classifying every two wheel driver as reckless or every four wheel driver as not paying attention. Bottom line is when someone dies or has been injured we should be giving our respect and condolences to their family and friends instead of this B.S. prayers for all parties involved family, friends, first responders,

Have had a large increase in the number of bikers passing my house this year. I believe they are using back roads via GPS to access 50 and not get snarled up at Hobbs. PLEASE be aware of the side access roads while you're barreling down 50! That goes for two and four wheel drivers.

unless you are also "hugging" the center line they should be no problem. Is another bike riding alongside him? Heck, why do 4 wheelers hug the center line? Bikes are allowed full use of their lane and can place themselves wherever they wish. When I rode I moved around in that lane frequently so I would be seen better. And when going around curves it's best to move to one side or the other to see and be seen.

Good answer. But I really don't think the questioner really wanted to know, based on the way he posed his question. It appears he has nothing but contempt for motorcycle riders, and resents having to grant them the right to the entire side of the highway that they are traveling in. The law grants motorcycylists the right to the ENTIRE lane, just like an automobile. They do not have to ride next to the shoulder so jerks like him can pass them with oncoming traffic and run the biker off the road.

You are probably right. I have also had people enter in my lane too soon when passing me. Besides being dangerous, to me, it also makes me and other people mad. Mad enough to want to attack that simpleton.

And then you have the speed racers who want to race a bike when taking off from a light, or even speed up when you pass them. You really have to pay attention and drive for the other guy when on a bike. Some of the cages certainly do not pay attention, or care, or do crap on purpose.

Bike week has already been marred before it has really started by these accidents and deaths. I don't ride any longer because of my health but when I did it often was not enjoyable because of the behavior and attitudes of people on the road with me.

Please don't generalize! We aren't all the same. I have been cut off by more cars than I can count!

Well said!

We ride in formation. One on the left, one on the right...staggered. That way, if the bike in front of us has an accident, we aren't on their ass and therefore dom't hit them.

Most motorcycle riders are good drivers but with so many there's going to be as they say a couple bad apples and I believe most of the critical comments are for those people not the majority of good riders

Does anyone know who was involved?
Haven't seen or heard any more information.
