Maryland school bans students from wearing Washington Redskins gear

Students at a Maryland private school have been told to leave their Washington Redskins apparel at home when football season kicks off.

Neal Brown, head of school at the Green Acres School in North Bethesda, asked parents not to send their children to school with the NFL team's logo or name.

In the letter, Brown wrote that "the term "Redskin" is a racial slur. Its use, whether intentional or not, can be deeply insulting and offensive. It is a term that demeans a group of people.

Nine in 10 Native Americans say they are not offended by the Washington Redskins name, according to a new Washington Post poll that shows how few ordinary Indians have been persuaded by a national movement to change the football team’s moniker.

The survey of 504 people across every state and the District reveals that the minds of Native Americans have remained unchanged since a 2004 poll by the Annenberg Public Policy Center found the same result. Responses to The Post’s questions about the issue were broadly consistent regardless of age, income, education, political party or proximity to reservations.

Among the Native Americans reached over a five-month period ending in April, more than 7 in 10 said they did not feel the word “Redskin” was disrespectful to Indians. An even higher number — 8 in 10 — said they would not be offended if a non-native called them that name.

I would send my kids to school with Trump and MAGA shirts.

Instead of banning the logo, why not talk about how it came about, and what native Americans think of it? It would be so much more productive and mind challenging for the students than just telling them one more thing that they can't do.

They could start the ball rolling by asking all of the native American students that attend the school* and their native American parents* what they think.

What happened to freedom of speech? Makes you wonder what these cowardly idiots are teaching our kids, if not you should!

I had a discussion with some real ravens today and they find the Baltimore Ravens to be offensive. When I explained why, then Poe jumped out the ground to express his concern over copyright issues and would file a lawsuit if it wasn't for well being dead and all. And, yes this is a stupid comment - right? Only , this is what it is all about folks! Either someone is being offended or sued in America.
