Cheerleaders' Chipotle fundraiser ends with racism accusations

GREENBELT, MD (WUSA9) - A Boys and Girls Club in Prince George's County said a fundraising event went off the rails Sunday. They claim Chipotle managers made racially offensive comments, then called the police four times on a group of young cheerleaders and their families.

Family and friends who used a coupon and bought food at the Greenbelt Chipotle would have half their proceeds given to the cheerleaders. But the girl's coach said managers questioned white customers, asking "do you know them," referencing the black coach and cheerleaders.

One parent said she couldn't believe when a white mother was questioned.

"Yes, I do know her, that's my daughter, and she said ‘I know him too, that's my husband and yes he's black,’" recalled Amanda Miller, whose eight-year-old daughter is a cheerleader.

Those Managers should be fired on the spot. This was a fund raiser for a very good cause. Why should they care if they all bought coupons. I would think this type of fund raiser should have been open to the Public if they wanted to buy coupons. This was a different teaching / learning moment for the young people. I just hope the Coaches and Parents handled it properly as a lesson on unity.

When you start threatening the employee's of the restaurant you will have the police called on you if you have self control issues.

Boys and Girls Club is a good organization.. maybe Chipotle was just following their protocol.. i cant see managers calling the police on children and their families unless these people were acting uncivilized in their establishment or premises. Also, interested how everything is racially motivated in the black community.

Chipotle is having a bit of an identify problem of late. Bad food, bad management, bad manners and bad food again.

Give me authentic Mexican food ANY DAY!

Ordered a bowl from Chipotle south to get home open it and find a live cockroach crawling in it. Took it back to the store where the manager wouldn't even come out the back to address. NEVER AGAIN eat at Chipotle!

I went to Chipotle once and they wanted to charge me to get my salsa on the side. Salsa, a condiment! It is now the most popular condiment in the US. Everyone gives it away when you go any where for Mexican, but they feel entitled to charge. I was given the salsa because I refused to pay, stating that I do not want 3 tacos, each getting progressively soggier. Good concept, but overpriced, restaurant was a complete mess, the one and only time I went, and Moe's puts it to shame. Moe's is significantly overpriced as well, but you get a lot more. My favorite place is in Cambridge off of Academy or Gay St. (I forget) or LaTolteca in Salsibury.

To anyone who frequents the Mexican restaurant across from the Irish Penny in the old Curley's Garage, Cottage Cafe building. The A/C intake is located above the bar. I have watched the growth of mold from my college years in the late 90's until the last time I went there 5 years ago. Has it ever been cleaned? I have never went back after seeing the mold, cob webs, dirt and dust dangling from the vents over the bar. The last time I went I couldn't how bad it was! Kind of lost my appetite.

Considering they are saying all whites are racist I don't think much unity is being taught.

Oh Bullshit. Those little crooks were giving coupons on site to customers and the managers watched them do it. Not only did he see them, it is against the policy of the fundraiser. It happens in Salisbury all the time as well and it is wrong. It is basically stealing from Chipotle and after this I hope they stop this. And I can tell you this much, I bet Chipotle will not be allowing them to do fundraising at that restaurant again. And rightly so.

I agree the food sucks, but when they agree to allow a group to do a fundraiser they tell them the rules ahead of time. You advertise ahead of time and download the coupon for your organization. Not member of the store are allowed to hand out copies of coupons to customers from the sidewalk or inside the store which these little thugettes and their parents were doing.

Chipotle went out of their way to let this black group the opportunity to do a fundraiser like they do all non profits and sports teams. These people were giving out coupons right on site and that is borderline stealing from the store. The police should have been called.

Just because the manager asked the question, do you know them, is NOT racist and I personally and getting sick and tired of that terminology.

"Moe's puts it to shame."

Moe's does not put them to shame. The last time I went to Moes my entire bowels were cleaned out. And so was my families. Sick, Sick, Sick. We haven't been back since and I have heard a lot of people say that as well. You can die of a case of fecal fingers. Please wash your hands and change your gloves often.

No sir, that black mold is still there and I complained to City of Salisbury officials who did not act on it. They should have gotten the health department involved. I do not eat at any of those stores because they are NASTY. The to refuse to wash there hands and the black mold is extremely unhealthy.

Rather have them do this than stand on the corner of Jersey road and Naylor Mill, begging for money. Agree though that they were probably breaking the rules of the fundraiser, then claimed racism when asked to stop.
