Another One Bites The Dust

I believe it was WBOC who did a story the other day on just how incredible these reflectors are, even knowing we had published numerous images of them on the side of the roads.

They went into detail of just how great the adhesive is and how wonderful it was that the Salisbury Fire Department had really done their homework. Heck, they even went on to say how all of them are holding up great.

I wonder, do any of you realize just how ignorant the local media has become. Have you noticed how they'll take the word of just about anyone out there and gospel? No investigative reporting whatsoever. If it's in a press release it has to be true, right?

Joe, what is even more sad, is everyone knows this to be true, and yet still listen, and read and buy their crap every day, so at the same time we can't fault just the media, it is the populace who refuses to not be ignorant as well... We all know you can't fix stupid!!!

They had them on Bishopville Rd a few years ago. They lasted all of a few days.

I have seen several that are out of place, so they might not be as sturdy as we have been lead to believe. I frequently see people swerving to run over them. What a waste of taxpayer $$$.

Told ya before, the asphalt needs to be milled to create a divot and then the reflector is epoxied in the divot. Just like on Rt. 50. Bornheres always know better than the experts with them fancy degrees and book learning.

been see them but what are thy for ?????

They tried those reflectors last year on Riverside Dr. and they didn't last a month. I read an article starting they could withstand a plow. That is BS if it can't even handle traffic. A waste of our dollars in full effect.

Snow plows? What happens then. Can we tax payers get a refund, please? Can't fix stupid.

11:47 There are there to show the fire department the location of a fire hydrant. This is supposed to help them locate a hydrant at night by reflecting blue from headlights.

The problem is as soon as we have snow and a plow goes through all these reflectors will be ripped off the road. They are basically glue on so already we are seeing them break free. It was a novel concept but really poorly thought out and a waste of money.

Volunteers who LIVE in communities close to their Fire Station know exactly where the hydrants are. However, when you have rent a firemen that are full time paid firefighters, well, they don't likely live in these communities are are clueless as to where the hydrants are. Maybe knowing where each one of them are should be on their TEST before they get hired. Nah, the idea is just too genius.

Some slick salesman is laughin all the way to the bank on this one.

Anonymous said...

Are you serious? They are sticking them to the blacktop with adhesive?

Anonymous said...

So if they're to show where the fire hydrants are, wouldn't it have been easier to put some sort of reflective tape or other material on the hydrants themselves?

JoeAlbero said...

12:36, absolutely right. People around here act like Salisbury snow is similar to upstate New York. While there is the rare storm where plows can throw snow onto these hydrants, shouldn't it be the responsibility of each fire department to locate each one and clear them right away? I mean, they are paid 24/7 and IF they actually gave a crap about their jobs they'd do just that. Mind you, they'd have to know where each on is located.

So how hard is it to see a fire hydrant? And wouldn't it make more since to TRAIN your people to be familiar with your fire district and where hydrants are?

Have computers with limited programs that have to be approved and strictly job related to duties, unable to get any type of social media or unauthorized programs according to County Executive and local Fire Assoc., in fire vehicles, since there has to be more than one in the vehicles with one as a navigator. They have to log on with a record of user, time date and sites visited. Not able to delete history. The programs would be a GPS and a program with all hydrants identified. Very simple program to right since all hydrants could be marked with GPS co-ordinates. A lot cheaper than this trash SFD spends money on that is useless. Even get work release inmates to paint them. Hydrants have no preventive maintenance which is totally ridiculous. Shows again no management and no concept of preventive maintenance.

Thdy aren't for snow storms. They aid in hydrant locating at night and especially in the rain. You could say hydrants are easy to spot when you are driving your car with no distractions. Driving a fire truck is a little different. You are concerned with many factors including safety, other vehicles, hose type and placement as well as locating a hydrant. Many cities use these markers and they are installed just like the lane markers on the state highways in MD. They are installed just below the surface and rarely come up. Rt. 50 gets plowed several times a winter. Those markers are still there. For some reason, locals around here can screw up even the simplest of things.

If FF can't see a hydrant they need another job.

Anonymous said...

I have 9 of them in a box, I have all of them up off the side of the road.

Anonymous said...

Who is responsible for this waste? They need a painful body waxing - THEN FIRED!

Hey Joe, here's a fact. Any decent Fire Department relies on map books in apparatus to identify hydrant locations, furthermore SFD and others have digital maps on computers (that cost big $) so they need to stop blowing smoke up our butts they use these feel good blue refectors for anything other than to make people believe thier doing something other than sleeping.

The ones that the state install include milling the road and epoxying them in. The city however... ghetto.

Anonymous said...

Here is the liberal way to spend tax money-put a pole with the blue lights like at SU emergency boxes at every hydrant with solar charging.

Wicomico County 911 has a gps system that has logged every single fire hydrant in the city and surrounding area. If there is a reported structure fire they automatically tell the responding crews exactly where the hydrants are located. This is such a waste of precious tax dollars, but typical of the Hoppes/Tull Spending Machine.

Uh... Rick Hoppes, John Tull, Darrin Scott, Jimmie Gladwell, et. al. do not have fancy degrees. They have a piece of paper from an fake online college that is nothing more than a Diploma Mill.

Columbia Southern University is a fake online college that is not accredited and a waste of money. These clowns wasted tax dollars on these fake degrees and let others take the online tests for them. Fake Degrees for Fake People.

Comment of the Year!!

The best and true comment I have ever seen on this Blog. These clowns that Rick Hoppes and John Tull has hired are nothing but the bottom of the barrel. Paid Farmin that can't get real firefighter jobs in real fire departments.

Speaking of taking tests Rick Hoppes has never had to take any tests to get where he is now.

No slick salesman was involved. Rick Hoppes dreamed up this idea on his own.

That's what real fire departments do!! But we are talking about Rick Hoppes and his little clowns.

Joe check this out. It was just posted on their FB page.

Acting Lieutenant / Paramedic ********* and Firefighter / EMT ******** were presented certificates for Exceptional Service from Acting Chief John Tull today. The awards recognize their life saving efforts during a call on July 1, 2017. .

"Acting Chief John Tull???" WTH is that about? Looks like they are grooming John Tull to take over Rick Hoppes' spot when he finally has to retire.

Why does he have to be call "acting chief" anyway?

You should see those cheesy homemade "certificates for Exceptional Service from Acting Chief John Tull." I kind of felt embarrassed for those clowns at Ghetto Station 16. Anyone can print those "certificates" off any computer. ROTFLMAO

Why would you get an award for doing your damn job!!

I've never heard of the doctors and nurses at PRMC getting awards for "saving a life." It's their damn job!!

Maybe Brain Records can do a term paper on how momentum and friction work and how many grains of adhesive is used to secure the markers.

WBOC never researches their stories, they just put out crap that makes everyone look good. Investigative reporting is not their forte. Hasn't always been that way but now it's kind of a given, anything you watch on there is bubble headed bleach blonde hogwash.

Well the only thing I have to say is common sense was not used when putting down these reflectors. First they put them right where car tires hit them when they drive Beaglin Park Drive. Now to know that they glued them is even more of a stupidity. Why did they not edge them with the middle line and with better security then adhesive? Next snow storm there will not be any left because the plow is going to remove them all!! What a waste of money.

Anonymous said...

There was so little consideration for these reflectors. I went down Riverside drive yesterday, and counted approx. A dozen where the adhesive has melted and smeared and the reflector has slid. These were not installed properly. I've seen them installed in other communities in the middle of the lane, not to one side. If they can't rotate their head to find the hydrant, then these do not need to be installed. Period. Waste of money, time, and the old way worked or gps. There are a few factors i feel that they didn't consider:
*Proper installation
*What happens when the road or roads get plowed?
*Adhesive strength hot/cold temps on asphalt
*What happens when the road gets repaved?
*Maintenance of reflectors?
*Who has to replace these?
*How long do/will these reflectors last till they are ruined?
It's a complete waste in my opinion. The whole sfd scenario is a huge waste. Chasing out volunteers and spending money on multi-million fire houses, burning fuel we are paying daily to do personal runs and eating out when they have thousands of dollars set in decent firehouse kitchens. Come on Salisbury we're not fricken nyfd so quit acting like it.

I was part of a crew under play captain Jester installing these idiotic things. We all said it was a waste of time. Don't fault us,we just do what we're told.

Yep you nailed it. What we need to know are the names of the complete ignoramuses that fell for this. This is what happens when you are dealing with clueless wonders. They don't know how it is in the real world and fall for the snake oil salesmen without fail.

There was a day Jay stood up for what was right. Unfortunately, like many, he's lost all integrity and become the biggest ass kisser there is. Word is, he's no different in OC, with Cropper.
