A Viewer Writes: Seems a bit narrow if you are driving a big truck or pulling a camper

This is a new roundabout in Maryland. The proposed roundabout in Salisbury won't have the luxury of having such a huge center portion as there's just not enough room. School buses are yet another problem.

Will there be enough room for the Barrie Tilghman statue? She's been storing it in her garage for sooo long.

2nd day in a row that milk came out of my nose while eating cereal! Not a good thing, but the comment was funny has hell! HAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAAHA!!!!

If you check out the one in Fruitland you can see the sidewalk curb all chewed up from being run over by the tractor trailers trying to get to the 13 bypass exit..

This is going to be interesting at the very least . This will be the creator of the road rage accident prone fiasco that the boy mayor has ever seen. Of
course you'll never hear about any stats on accidents or traffic jams .
Dupont Circle in D.C. is a good example , accidents on a daily basis . 4 lanes of idiots without peripheral vision.

Never going to work at that intersection. Volume of traffic is too high and the way the lights are synced it would constantly be backed up.

They left the stoplights out to the picture. Zoom back 200 feet.

Cities and towns are driving businesses out to rural areas because of these idiotic traffic routes / configurations.

You better make sure you put good markings on the rode. People leave Royal Farms by Wor Wic and go the opposite way all the time. I think some people just dont know, and the others are to lazy to drive around the circle. Its been terrible. And when class is in session, you get stuck inside the circle at the red light. Its a hot mess. Cant wait till arby's and all the other stores open by Royal Farms. Already had a shooting because someone tried to tell the car in the circle they were driving the wrong way.

That is one effed up, poorly marked intersection. They should have had an exit off 50 E as an additional entry into what will soon become a block of quick stop franchises. Trying to enter (or leave) the roundabout during semesters is a nightmare. Cement is seriously marked up from people running over it to get to where they're going.

That is part of the design - to limit big trucks, trailers and similar vehicles. Part of the plan to reduce traffic flow. There are better roads and ways to get those vehicles to those areas. School bus - Looking at the standard chassis specs from International, at max wheelbase of 276 inches, the turning radius is 36.7 ft.

There is a huge traffic circle on the Black Horse pike in Cherry Hill NJ. If you get caught on the inside lane you have to make at least 3 or 4 trips around the circle before you can find a place to exit. Locals call it the Kamikaze Circle. I can't wait for the one here. Lets see.....we can call it the "Bury-go-round".

Everyone is forgetting about the fire trucks and the ambulances that go barreling through this intersection. These fools had better wake up and forget about this idea. If the fools would get the lights timed properly and let the people on Rt50 heading east turn right on Mill St. without having to wait for the blasted light to turn. As for Riverside Drive yes the traffic does get backed up at certain times of the day but I have never really experienced a problem with it unlike what will happen if they follow through with this stupid idea however you'll have one less vehicle to worry about because I will never be caught in this mess. We don't need it or want it.

And I am also so glad that I no longer live in Salisbury because I swear if these fools told me what type of fence I had to have I guess I would be in jail for not complying as the house I grew up in had a what they refer to now as a chicken wire fence in the backyard and to my knowledge it is still standing after 60 plus years my parents put it there to keep the kids from cutting through from one street to another. When the house was sold the fence did not lower the property value because guess what it became a rental that is now bringing someone in over $900 a month rent and it looks like crap. This is what Salisbury started becoming back in the late 60's as the older residents died and the slumlords and the college started taking over the neighborhoods. These fools can propose all the upgrades they want but things will never change as Salisbury has been on a downward spiral for a long time. As for crime in the late 60's it was covered up then too so things have not changed there either. I feel so sorry for the generations that have chosen to stay or are stuck in their original homes and forced to endure this mess until they die. At one time it was nice to live in the neighborhoods of Salisbury but that can't ever be brought back no matter what they propose because then the neighbors cared about each other and now they just pay the rent.

They should make Mill st. one way towards rt. 50 and S. Division one way towards Carroll st. Camden could be one way to Mill st. too. That would solve the problem.

People here can't even drive in a straight line, can't imagine these inbreds navigating a traffic circle. Once again something all over the rest of the world and country that the shore just can't handle

Here's a thought instead of allowing all your buddies to purchase real estate for pennies on the dollar, why wasn't the dilapidated property on with sides of the outdated bridge(gni properties bldg and old Feldman's) bought by the city decades ago for next to nothing, get stare funding and expand that stretch of roadway instead of using state funding for crap like the stalked main street garbage or bike paths and the infamous Jake day river walk

Roadway NOT wide enough. period...COMPLAIN NOW. Go back to the drawing board.

1059, let SHA know about the light situation at route 50/mill st. because they are not mind readers!

Anonymous said...

I don't have a problem with a circle per say, but I think that the locals would indeed have a hard time adjusting.

Let's talk Mayor Day's track record regarding road construction. Main St. has been ripped up forever due to contaminated soil, right? Why on earth is it taking so long? Do you think that other places wait this long? Of course they don't! Mayor and company obviously didn't even consult a few old timers, let alone do historical research, to discover that over the years there were 3 gas stations in that vicinity.

That boy (mayor) is an idiot, and will muck up that project just like he did on Main!

Every time some mentions putting in a circle in I think about National Lampoons. If they actually put it in I need to stake out a spot with a video camera.

Not one commenter on here knows how a traffic circle is designed. What a bunch of dunces. I can drive a set of doubles around that traffic circle without any problem. It is designed for professional drivers. Idiots might have a problem, but then again, they have a problem at regular intersections.

Anonymous said...

12:32 they might not be mind readers but SHA is definitely stupid and does not pay attention as this occurs everyday if they would let you turn right after stop a lot of the traffic congestion on Rt50 backed up to the police station could be avoided but this has been going on for years and years and will never change just take the blasted sign down that says no right turn on red light.

Anonymous said...

I dont have a problem except for the light at west main being so close after the circle

Anonymous said...

Traffic circles as part of a planned roadway are one thing but to try to convert an existing intersection into a circle is another thing entirely. The circle in Fruitland had plenty of room and two perpendicular roadways...they should have made it a little bigger. Just imagine the traffic when they tear up the intersection and the bridge is closed for a month or two. All I can say is good luck with that.

Anonymous said...

That idea above of making one way streets makes sense. It would bring traffic in to downtown in the center of town. Thru traffic would dump on to Carroll St. and traffic leaving town would have free flowing left on to W. Main towards Brew River from Mill St.

Anonymous said...

Roundabouts are quite easy to navigate. I'm not sure if the proposed site is large enough to accommodate for our traffic needs, which grow every year.

Anonymous said...

The center part is called the apron and is designed for larger vehicles to drive on when needed.

with a small cab, probably only one set of screws, short 28 ft trailers with only one set of duals. congratulations.

Why can't they put another bridge further down so people from nanticoke road can get to fruitland. I feel like this would clear up a lot of congestion there.

Anonymous said...

You should try to traverse the new round-about that's on the bi-pass towards Church Creek Md..a real cluster _, however there is one located in Federalsburg MD. that works well and accommodates a large amount of tractor-trailers with no problems, the roadway is busy, but nothing like Salisbury traffic, you really need to pay extra attention and slow down at any round-about.

9:36 There is this thing called the bypass. Takes you to Fruitville without going through Sby. Rockawalkin Rd. to 50 - it's very easy.

Anonymous said...

So y aren't more people using it? Y is this intersection so congested?

Anonymous said...

If someone were trying to pass a car and get 10 feet in front of somebody in this circle you bet your life everyone would zoom through this circle like a champion. They would kill themselves rather than have someone get ahead of them. I see it all the time. I sit back and laugh at them and even play with them, making them think I will do something so they will react whichever way I want them too.

They are so predictable I can tell what they are going to do before they even know what they will do. lol simpletons.

If you don't mind the added time and travel.

Actually, the inner circle of the roundabout is called the truck apron. It specifically designed to allow large trucks to mount it as they traverse the roundabout. The lane widths are fine.
