BREAKING NEWS: Rise Up Coffee Roasters SU Cafe Closes

“The reception and support by the campus community for the Rise Up SU Cafe was simply unbelievable, and its beyond my ability to fully convey my appreciation. As the owner of Rise Up Coffee, these results rank near the top of all we’ve accomplished in our 13+ years in business. As a proud alumnus of SU, this partnership has been a thrill of a lifetime. That said, our business philosophy has always been “Quality Backed By Quality People”. In defense of both, and though seemingly COMPLETELY avoidable, we were forced to conclude that we could no longer continue this partnership." - Tim Cureton

Rather odd comment.

Not sure what that convoluted rubbish is supposed to mean.

Does this mean all of their locations will be closing?

Too bad.
Tim and his staff are top notch, as is their product line.

Ha ha ha, you get what you pay for. Stupid to think you are going to get quality staff for temp work at minimum wage and no benefits.

3:27 - If people have a job it should be quality work no matter the wage. You agree to do something for exchange of anything. You thinking sir/mam is one of the major problems in this country. If you will not do your best move on!!

So why are they closing??

speak English. You did say you went to SU didn't you? Say what you mean instead of coyish comments

Educated people understand exactly whet he said and the meaning thereof.

3:40 PM Actually, your antiquated thinking is the problem. You get what you pay for. The only thing your low paying entry level job teaches you is how greedy and disrespectful employers are.

Stupid to think you are going to get "quality" work for low pay.

And more important, if a business fails, instead of blaming the employees you better take a close look at management, because your "failure" starts at the top.
Admittedly since it was AVOIDABLE.

In other words SU is raising his rental lease so high he can't make any money while paying decent wages to operate the place.

Tim, maybe you could be more clear. It's obvious everyone commenting here is guessing.

Do you have another location?
Will you " " " ?
Was the rent too high?
Were your employees too high?
Are you too high?
Is the price of burnt coffee too high?
WTF are you trying to say?????

Anonymous said...

Never heard of the place.

Tim is a good guy. I've know him on a business level and he has a genuine heart to improve the local economy and build up local business. Must have been something forcing them out of there.

Cryptic messages are always suspicious. Why would Rise Up leave the new library area. Were they only there short term to get brand recognition then close hoping students would schlup over to their College Ave location next to the pizza joint? Sounds a bit dodgy.

443 Educated people? HA - we're ALL saying WTF, no clue what YOUR issue is.

Anonymous said...

Maybe.... what?

Tim, are you able to respond?

Business is booming in all 3 salisbury locations. Must be some issues with SU administration. Not good SU!! Not smart!

How much do you think they should get paid to make coffee? Pretty sure they are not going to be professional coffee baristas. This is the entitlement attitude. Your first job is not going to give you benefits and $20.00 an hour. You are making coffee, not doing a professional job!

Has nothing to do with pay. University wanted to control the employees and make HR decisions. I would not let them tell me who I can hire or fire either. He doesn't need them. SU's loss. Maybe they can get a muslim run dunkin donuts on campus.

12:08 Not on the shore, but I know plenty of grads that started above $25/hr with full benefits right out of school.
