Is that good news or bad news? Depends who you talk to. Placing work requirements on food stamps has proven controversial across the country, with opinions often divided along political lines.
Georgia has been rolling out work requirements for food stamp recipients for over a year. The latest round affected some 12,000 people in 21 counties, several in metro Atlanta, who are considered able-bodied without children.
When the April 1 deadline came around for them to find work, more than half — 7,251 — were dropped from the program, according to state figures released this week. Essentially, the number of recipients spiraled down from 11,779 to 4,528, or a drop of 62 percent.

Good should be in every state, should be no welfare for anyone that does not actively look for a job. Also should be a time limit anyone can receive welfare no longer than 1 year. Also those people on disability should be checked and reviewed many receive for no good health reason and those that are should be reviewed by a state medical board once per year!

What happens when all these people come off food stamps is really simple. The government gets less of my money (well in theory anyway). I am able to donate some of that to the local food bank. The $100 that the government spends $50 of to distribute, in the food bank's hands it only takes $30 to distribute. As a result, MORE people can be helped.
