So How Real Are The People In Chevy’s “Real People” Ads?

If you watch TV at all, you’ve probably seen one of the many “focus group” ads from Chevy, where supposedly real people are consistently flabbergasted at the car company’s achievements. But just how authentic are the things we see in these commercials?

The Chevy ads usually follow some version of the following: Mild-mannered focus group guy asks a generic question about car performance, cost, or awards; the folks off the street answer, and then are blown away (maybe a little too much so) by the fact that the answer to all the good questions is alwaysChevy.

I'm not impressed at all with the advertising game of lies. It's been going on for years in all parts of marketing including health care. The fictitious awards that they win are made from the chevy marketing group . What a joke ,
I've been driving many different autos and don't have much of a preference anymore , they all have their problems and call backs at some point , good ole union boys on the assembly line.

Thanks to these constant and inane commercials, I wouldn't buy a Chevrolet if it was the only car on the road.

I am not so sure anymore that it is the make of the car but how the car is driven. I bought a Ford Fusion and currently have a little over 135k miles. I am only on the second set of brakes, second set of tires (got 85k out of the first set), and the Fusion still runs like a top (2009 model year). I routinely maintained the car and other than stone chips here and there and the Wal Mart cart dings it is in very good shape. My preference is Ford but again I believe the driver has a lot to do with overall performance.

the "beard" makes me sick. "real people - not actors"????? well where did they come from? locals? flown or bussed in? like these "real people" did not know ahead of time that they were scripted to be pro-chevy. I like Chevrolets but the commercials are really stupid.

Had my share of Ford recalls , bad trans , bad electrical problems . Not a die hard Chevy fan but would buy one over a Ford any day . The adds they all have are bull crap. They all play the same game. I just bought a new GMC by the way

Went to look for a Chevy at my local dealership because I had over two thousand dollars in rebates from my old GM card to use towards a new car. We looked at a Chevy Cruze base model. They offer a 1000 student discount, but to take it, they wanted you to accept 5.5 percent financing and no real discount off of the high sticker price which was nearly 20K. We were the only ones in the dealership on a Thursday night. We got up and walked out. The general manager stopped us at the door and assured us it was a great deal! We said thanks for your time, and left. Went over to Pohanka and found a nice 2016 Civic and a good price with only 8k miles certified preowned for 17 at 2.5 interest with my credit. The quality was much better and had more options. Chevy would not work with us. There loss.

Makes one cringe but Honda/Toyota are the most bang for one's buck. Have been for years. Nothing flashy just cars and trucks that run forever. Sad.

Enjoyed several days of looking at REAL cars this past weekend in OC. Cars from the 50's 60's and 70's. Real engines, real metal, real glass - ZIPPY COMPUTERS!

Such is the times we live in!

On a side note, anybody notice all the adds with racially mixed families? Oh and the ones with two mommies or daddies? I guess this is the new America. And what's up with the man bun?

Your are right, I remember and miss the muscle cars with the V8 engine from the 50's and 60's. The 70's and 80's cars were a piece of junk. Even the Japanese cars rusted like crazy during that period of time. I now only own Japanese.
I have Two Honda's, a Honda Motorcycle, and a Nissan Altima. I've had nothing but good luck with Japanese vehicles. Been burn't in the past from owning Fords and Chevy's. My last Chevy was a 99 chevy Venture Van. A total piece of junk! I took good care of it, but it was also in the shop for one thing or another and ended up costing us more than it was worth.

The insurance of the high performance muscle cars is also very expensive and cost prohibitive. I like the technology, but wish you could still buy a new car or truck with out all the fancy computerized add ons that make the cost so high!

They're just as real as Fred and Barney enjoying a Winston cigarette while doing their yard work.

We can already know how easily the public is led.
The ads mentioned have been very effective.

Those awards are the same as the ones PRMC gets, FAKE!

Couple of items I remember:

"Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet."
"Have you driven a Ford lately?"
"There's a Rocket to fit your pocket (Oldsmobile)

No different than shipping something UPS . 12.45 freight , $3.45 fuel surcharge. Just a way to jack up shipping
