Devreco Settles on Purchase of 600 Glen Avenue (Formally Labinal)

Devreco, LLC a locally owned and operated full service development firm, announced the purchase of 600 Glen Avenue, the former site of Labinal Power Systems, a 160,000 Square Foot Building on 12-Acres in the heart of Salisbury, Maryland.

In 1985, the Grumman Aerospace Corporation acquired the site in Salisbury for electrical wiring production. In 1994, the American defense budget was cut and the market became more competitive. In 2015, Labinal announced plans to move its Salisbury operations to Denton, Texas by the end of 2016. Approximately 100 of the more than 700 employees at the Salisbury plant relocated to the Denton plant. The transition was scheduled to occur in phases starting in May, 2015 through December, 2016 but the plant ended up closing two months early and the building was put on the market for sale.

“This building has been a staple in our community for decades, employing thousands of people. “The property has been out of sight for years as preforming government contract work. ” added Gillis. “It is now our responsibility to unveil the building to the public with new attractive facades and functional parking; we strongly believe this will attract new and expanding businesses to Salisbury, Maryland.”

big deal so the building sold. thanks dave ryan, still doesn't have any jobs associated with it! I know maybe an indoor mini golf? or minor league roller ball team?

It would be best suited for retirement apartments. As would the old mall site. IMHO.

I'm sure it will be section 8 housing.

More retail and min wage jobs. And the same people continue to get rich.

You got mighty high expectations to think jobs should be in place. Google the firm who bought the building and read the plan. Even if the place is sold or rented to a private or government manufacturing (idea for the space) tomorrow it would many month of permits, government red tape and renovation before jobs could be available. I think it is a big deal the building has been sold and on its way to being productive again - hopefully quickly.

Don't hate on people with money, many work their behinds off to get that. Get off the Govt dole and stand on you're own feet and maybe, just maybe you can be successful to! Or at least feel good about yourself that you did it on your own! Without the Govt scraps! Stop whining and get busy!

What's with the property right behind it that the county was going to sell Labinol for additional parking?

Need to sell the old Mall property and get rid of that pile of hazard material. Where is all of that drainage go from rain. Has it been going into the storm drains and into the Wicomico river? The owners need to be jailed. All their assets need to be confiscated and they should never be allowed to own another business. How much in fines have been accumulated? Has the City / County even kept track of the fines? Why has it taken so long?

Look 3:11 Chris Lewis

3:11 if so then you would know Mr. Ryan has little to show for his many years of service at a very nice salary!

Sounds to me like they are running with the idea Joe put out a while back, I am sure a brewery or two would love to have this space to do collabs and supply the Civic Center with good beer. Going to need it if that Hockey Team comes to town.

I agree with 4:49. We were promised a small loan (50k) for a business expansion only to be informed by Mr. Ryan that he actually controls no funds. This was after we spent our own money in anticipation of said guarantees.

Part of that property should be purchased for Civic Center parking. With all the expanding use of the CC they will need lots more parking space. Of course they can manufacture lots of space by relocating the road behind the cc over to the river/creek and filling the land to cc ground height with the pile of stones at the mall. Two birds with..etc.

Very smart. Or they could just build a parking garage on the lot up front.

Mr. Ryan earns his money by suffering the embarrassing indignity of accepting a large salary (on the Government dole) while doing absolutely nothing but creating a false facade of success. Mr. Hannas statement was a crock. "Exceptional team"? "Completed an 18 month national search" that resulted in a local buyer, another Gillis front company and involved SWED? Hmmm. Somehow I think county taxpayers are being scammed.
