WASHINGTON —Easier classes, less homework and lots of sports — this is how American high schools are viewed by students from other countries studying in the U.S.
Despite a push in recent years to make the U.S. education system more competitive and effective, foreign exchange students continue to view American high school experience as much less stimulating, according to a study published Wednesday.
"You get this feeling — the kids from abroad come here, they spend a year, they think that school is easier here," said Tom Loveless, a fellow with the Brown Center on Education Policy with the Brookings Institution. "We think we have made great strides in making our schools more challenging, here is at least one outside group that is in fact saying they are not terribly challenging."

Sure they are easier, they have dumbed them all down so they can move everyone along whether they "get it" or learned anything or not by the time they graduate.

Duh! And they needed a study for that? Of course our schools are easier, how else would half our population graduate?
I once told my young son: Just think how dumb the average voter is!? His reply: Think how dumb the rest of them are! Implying, if the average is dumb, that means half are even dumber.

I agree my son who is in 11th grade has breezed though school his whole life so far. I thought this year when he started taking some classes at wor wic he would be challenged wrong breezing through them too! My son just gets stuff and doesn't have to work for his grades I wish he was challenged more. His education has pretty much been handed to him so far.
Another reason private and home schooling are popular.Public schools are not challenging and they only care about athletes.
Duh. One only needs to look at the U.S. students' world standing in math and the sciences to see that there's something seriously amiss with our education system.
To me, this is the litmus test, and America is failing miserably. Time to get rid of the Fed Dep't. of Ed., and leave it to the States and local governments.
